Free Tram Zone Extended to The MCG between 28th September - 1st October 2016

490

Might come in handy for people coming to the Grand Final from interstate and staying in the CBD.

To help you get to the MCG hassle free, the Free Tram Zone will be extended to include tram stops close to Yarra Park. The Free Tram Zone extension begins from first service on Wednesday 28 September to last service Saturday 1 October 2016.

This means customers travelling by tram from within the Free Tram Zone in the CBD, won't need to touch on their myki to get to the MCG and Yarra Park.

Extended Free Tram Zone stops are:

Stop 9 Wellington Parade/Lansdowne Street
Stop 10 Wellington Parade/Jolimont Road
Stop 11 Wellington Parade/Jolimont Station
Stop 7a William Barak Bridge
Stop 7b Rod Laver Arena
Stop 7c MCG/Hisense Arena

It should be like that all the time (Brizzy gets it right with free transport).

Note Don't touch on with your Myki or you will be charged, even in the free zone - scamming PTV.

Brizzy gets it right with free transport

Huh? We have very little free transport in Brisbane compared to Melbourne . Just the free bus loops and the CityHopper ferry.

I think he means the free public transport to the event deal.

Any game with over ~15,000 people provides free public transport to and from the even in SEQ.

      • Yeah @Henrus is correct, the free public transport to events.

    • Agree with the tip for not touching on but it's not really a scam - if you're travelling onwards outside the free tram zone then you're supposed to still touch on when you get on.

    Great post Normie :)
Now if anyone can find me a GF ticket for the day to combine with this, i'll be forever grateful!

Now make it permanent and extend to the Arts Centre/National Gallery/Shrine of Remembrance

And extend it up Swanston st a little bit so I can park in Carlton in 4 hour spots for $1.70 an hour :D

      • But then they'll jack up the pricing there.

    • Or just a few stops up Swanston St to Melbourne Uni

Meanwhile in Sydney, the government got rid of free train travel, replacing it with half price fares >:(

The Liberals are selling off your hospitals too.

But the trains run on time, so at least that's one good thing about living under a fascist regime.

Every time I travel on trams in Melbourne it seems the locals treat the whole city as a free tram zone. Hardly ever see anyone tap on, even outside of the CBD.

    • Maybe they have a weekly/monthly/annual pass.

Then again, I'm unsure if you are required to touch on if you have a weekly/monthly/annual pass.

      • can confirm, don't touch on

        source: annual pass
