a lot of posters here need to realise that there is no 360 slim, microsoft arent making anymore elite consoles, its just a xbox 360, which is why there are sales like this, they want people to buy the old consoles, rocket science i know!

    • +1

      thanks for the info,

i wonder if they'll ever get down to 90-150 range, when the shiny 360 is the standard. that would be awesome.

  • +1

it's only a matter of time, i was going to buy a 360 in the next week or two, but with the slim coming in at 450$, a couple of months and it'll be 350$ and the elite will be 250, pro 200 and the arcade 150$ (or less) …

what's better is that ebay will be filled with xbox's going for next to nothing …

    • n jtaggable consoles will go up up & up XD

  • JB HiFi in Rundle Mall Adelaide has a stack of them I just bought one :)

  • Just bought it!

Cool thing: with the 299$ deal you will get halo and the car one + you can CHOOSE 3 games between a few (assansin creed, skate, saints row2, etc.

I got an extra 2 free games (crap) for free as well : )
    (total of 7 games)

    • Which JB? Did you get the extra games by bargaining?

  • does GAME do price match with this?

  • $5 cheaper if you buy online and pay with paypal

    • $5 ?

They have a 10% off offer going for using PayPal at the moment. That'll net you $25 cashback (obviously in PayPal credits I'd assume).

      • +1

I think that's what jps433 means? $20 shipping but you get $25 back.

      • as manbearpig said. 10% doesn't include delivery. also paypal no longer charges to withdrawl, so you get the full 10% (- shipping) back

        • you have to add $20 for shipping then you get $25 off so a total of $5 discount

STOP go to harvey norman instead. Just picked mine up from there, they beat the price $238, and let me choose the 2 games :)

    • which Harvey Norman and what games

      • -1

Sorry, perth city west. Modern Warfare 2 and FF13, but they gave me the choice of any 2 games in the store, so werent limited to a small selection.

        This one is not jtagable..

        • did you need a catalogue or something?

          • @ltwo: Showed him the jbhifi add on my phone.
Said he would beat it by $11, and i get to choose the 2 games.

            • @ssmac: wonder if i can choose my own games at HN O'connor

        • I don't suppose you know the name of the person who served you? I want in on this deal.

            • +1

@ltwo: receipt has Assist: Sascha W - Sales. Not sure if thats his name or not.

  • Can you "jtag" this xbox? NVM post directly above answers my question.

  • $299 with 5 games is a freggin bargain. i paid $399 for the same thing not too long ago :(

  • shit just got one for $249 from jb :(

oh well, i only play a few games and i was really only after the console

    good deal regardless!

  • I have a copy of the JB HIFI Opening Specials catalogue for the Wagga Wagga store, and it has the $299 5game pack as shown in the link, for $439 locally.

I will probably have a look instore tomorrow, and see what they actually have instore.

It doesn't seem like you can get the $299 pack online.

    • I just picked up one this afternoon. They had the correct price indicated in-store, despite the catalogue prices.

The staff said they checked with other stores too as they could not believe the price when they were told.

  • Question: Buy this bundle now, or wait for the new (and more expensive) Xbox 360 Slim guys?

    • unless u like the features of the new one.., i would go for this one, i think it has a 3 year warrenty and the new one has 1 year,
for 238$ from HN .. cant go wrong

      • True. But then again, Microsoft claims they have finally solved the RROD issue hence the 1 Year warranty.

& I'll definitely be needing Wi-Fi…so purchasing a $120 Wi-Fi dongle is equivalent to the new 360 Slim. LOL I think I just answered my own question. But this deal is just so tempting especially when you can CHOOSe your own two games, it's a nice deal.

        • Hey that comment from MS was taken out of context a little you know, it is physically impossible for the new Slim 360 to RROD, Why? Because it has no red LEDs in the power button any more. (it's an all green touch control like the PS3)

  • I just got an Elite from Harvey Norman, bought for $388 less than 2 weks ago. What are my chances of returning it within 2 weeks, for example if I complain the fan noise is too loud or something. I konw it's dodgy but hey, saving $150 is a good thing.

    • Do it lol. Jb also have 10% cashback if you buy online with paypal.

      • Is there some sort of code that you use, or simply checkout with Paypal and it will be credited to the Paypal account?

    • Has anyone ever had luck returning to HN though? Their return policy seems pretty tight - ie the product must be faulty, not just a change of mind…

Fan noise - well thats annoying but I wonder if that entitles to a refund? Any other good reasons post 'em up!

      • HN had a deal going that if you found the product cheaper within (i Think) 4 weeks you could go in there and get 110% of the difference back. Dont know if it is still going but worth asking them.

        • They won't do it because the one I got was a "holiday bundle" and their price is still the same. FFS! But good idea though.

My Local HN were useless, had basically no decent deals on a 360, so got one of the $249 packs from JB, the other games on offer for the $50 weren't of much interest ( i even tried to see what they would give to me straight back as a trade but it didn't add up).
Cheapest i can see for a full 12 months of Xbox Live Gold is $50.80, anyone seen it better than that? No rush, got the free month to use first up :-P

    • Actually there doesn't seem to be a free month of Xbox live in there… I always thought there was.. bugger

    • I managed to find a few games not on the exclusion lists…

      So for $299 I got Elite, Forza 3 / Halo 3 ODST, and RDR…

    • For an extra $50.. you got a choice of 3 games from a particular selection..

The Slim model is now available for $399 preorder!

    http://www.fishpond.com.au/Games/Xbox_360/Accessories/088537…

  • got one at HN Domayne Auburn. they can only do price match, not price beat. and they cannot change games because the games are inside the box. Anyway, save my driving to parramatta JB HiFi. New one is $399? Gees that is good value as well.

    • Went to Auburn HN, salesman there was pretty unhelpful, said they couldnt do the bundle because its not on their system???

      • you have to go to HN Domanye. it is on the otherside of the road.
HN Auburn is very unhelpful. they never do price matches.

  • This price reduction is most likely due to the imminent release of the new slimline consoles out soon. Although, other retailers don't seem to have followed suit yet, with RRPs much higher than JBHIFI. It is not often that the price of a console drops, and by such a large amount. The slimline model is invariably going to replace the standard size 360 console I'd imagine, and with an RRP of $450, looks as if the price of the console will be going up, if anything!
I've always been tempted to get a 360 console but am thinking to wait it out a bit, not so much because of the money but the practicalities of getting a new console and having to buy a good TV for my room, sell off some old games first, connecting some ethernet cables into my room , convincing my parents I need it(lol) etc.

Basically, I don't want to miss out on this deal but am uncertain to commit to purchase right now. Do you think these price reductions are permanent or it may go back up when the slimline model supersedes it?
I'd also wonder about the second hand market, such as ebay, when consumers might choose to 'upgrade' their console to a slim and sell their old ones.

  • went TO HN O'connor and got 4 games bundle (forza 3, halo odst, pure, lego batman) plus 3 games of my choice for just under 300.

  • So with the $299 deal some people are able to CHOOSE your own game? (from select list?)

    • well my local JB had a section of games you could choose from, wasn't very extensive, maybe 9 or 10 to choose from, and none of them really grabbed my interest ( can't really remember what they were)

Some people have been able to haggle for a better deal from harvey Norman but it's very hit and miss, based on stock levels at individual stores.

    • the HN I went to, didnt need to haggle at all, they agreed to let me pick 3, as the others were bundled with the console. Didn't have the biggest selection, but managed to get FF13, Assassins creed 2 and LFD2.
Much better than the JB deal with 5 games I didnt really want.

      • Which HN was this?

  • Just picked one up. Got Lego Batman and Pure thrown in as well, and a 1500 point LIVE card for $20, so $269 all up.

  • OI… No idea what the deal is with this… deal (lol), but when i went into JB they were selling stacks of these Xboxs with Halo ODST and Forza 3 for $249… No wars. (120Gb version btw). Not complaining, ODST is a far superior game, though I didn't find this offer. Yes by the way I did buy it, very happy. Confused though, as I did look at the website too and saw it shown with wars.

The pack i got was a proper Microsoft bundle with the bonus games, (games in non retail packaging), not a JB bundle.

  • Soz for double, Site being weird as.. Can't vote? :S

  • Has the current xbox have a input for the new kinect or do i have to buy a adapter?

    • Kinect connects by USB primarily for data but also needs to be plugged into a wall outlet for power, the new slim has a dedicated port that caters to both power and data for Kinect.
So yeah it'll work fine with Phat Xbox 360 but will need an annoying extra cable plugged into a wall.
I don't plan on getting Kinect, I hate motion sensor games.

      • thanks!

  • I went to HN and they gave me the value of the extra 3 games to spend in the shop so i got xbox halo odst forza 3 halo warz specil edition and RED Dead good deal i thought

HN Moore Park if you wanted to know

  • anyone with woolworths staff discount card, you can get 10% off dick smith until the end of june. good time to either use it on the $249 deal as they have discounted their elites like jb, or pre-order and see if they give you the staff discount when pre-ordering!

  • Just remember if you can't physically make it to a JB, then pay with your PayPal and you will get a rebate of 10% of the price (excluding shipping). But that 10% PayPal rebate offer ends on 21/06/10.

  • I just picked one up (nice deal!) and saw 2 years extended warranty offered on top of existing 1 year for $50.

Usually I'd not look at ext wrty if it's more than 10% of product value, but with from what I've read Xbox 360 has a long history of hardware issues… Is this version of Elite less prone to failures?? Is it worth getting ext wrty at this price considering it is a Xbox 360?

The unit has a MFR date of 2010-03-08.

    • I think the main hardware issue is the RROD? But don't microsoft give an additional 2 years warranty for RROD specific problems?

  • Do people think this is a sale price or it'll stay at this price? Not sure if I should grab one now, but on the jbhifi site it says 'On Sale'..hmm.. but with the 360 slim coming, I can see the price staying..

    • Also, for those that bought it, is halo and forza in one case or are they in separate cases? Cause I don't want forza..

      • Yep, the one I got has Forza and Halo in the one case.

  • Do I need to check whether it's a jasper? I have never owned a xbox before.

  • the one I brought isn't a Jasper . But the ones I brought from the other sale are. If you interested in a Jasper send me a pm

    • shane23 is not accepting e-mails….so how do i pm you (sorry im new to the site)

  • It looks like it's been pulled from the website, but when i spoke to someone over the phone, they said the sale went till the end of the month?

    • sorry, still on site, have to search though (not on main xbox page).

  • Why am I not recieving emails or pm's? What state are you in

    • I'm in nsw, sydney. I'm not sure as im new here…but i think you have it set that way (go into your account and check "allow emails" or something like that)

  • Done thanks

  • Damn, Dick Smith won't substitute games or beat the price. HR does but was out of stock. These JB games are not original retail copies? Is it worth it?
Are they just like a promo disc only?
Prices might fall further when slimline comes out?

  • Oh - BTW. The console with 5 games, are they all "non-retail" aswell or do they add the other 3 as standalone games(normal retail packaging)?
I don't like these half baked games they give you that aren't original.

    • Lol, yeah that's why I went for the more expensive COD MW2 Elite as I could then sell the MW2 game for a higher value. Those Forza & Halo double-packs are selling for around $30 on ebay, wheareas I will be able to sell MW2 for >$50.

  • Exactly what I was thinking!
How much was that COD MW2 package?
    Got a link?

  • COD MW2 Elite Bundle was $369. https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/default.aspx?T=64&P=461172

250GB HD and 2 controllers. Console will def. be a Jasper.

  • Hmmm, bit pricey but it is definitely a better package.
I thought all recent consoles sold at retailers were Jaspers, unless it is old stock?
