DynaGrip SOS Silicone Tape 25mm X 3m $6.99 @ ALDI 5/11

790

This stuff is great, better than duct tape, I normally pay around $12 from supercheap, always keep several rolls in the tool box.

  • Self adhering, insulating tape that forms a permanent, waterproof, airtight seal when cured
  • Flexible silicone based material stretches up to 3 times its original length around uneven shapes
  • Leaves no residue when removed
  • Withstanding -50°C to +260°C temperatures & insulating up to 8000 volts.

This is a great price for self amalgamating tape. We use it to waterproof antenna connections in outdoor wifi installs.

    • +59

I was trying to figure out what to use it for.

I will buy it 'just in case' I need to waterproof antenna connections in outdoor wifi installs.

      • Ha ha ha ha. Me too.

FYI, these have slowly gone up from $4.99 over the last few years.

    • +3

As with almost every other modern commodity.

      • Except milk, bread, fuel…?

    • Checks out with our $ going down over the last few years…

      • Not 40% though. At any rate I wait for them to hit clearance then snap them up for $3. If miss out no worries as as a reasonable supply on the shelf.

  • What are they useful for?

    • +1

most common thing i can think of is hose/pipe leaks

      • Pipe leak, I'll probably go to Bunnings and fix it properly.

Engine hose leak may be handy on the side of the road.

        • +21

Lol @ using "bunnings" and "fix it properly" in the same sentence.

        • +9

          @BeauKilla:

So Bunnings doesn't sell pipes and fittings these days? or Should I call a plumber and pay handsomely for the privilege when I can DIY.

        • +3

If you have a leak on Christmas eve or even just at 4pm on a Sunday as Bunnings is closing this is better then the alternative of having no water.

        • +1

@JB1: They think you're as hopeless as them at fixing things you see.

        • @Maverick-au:

at 4pm on a Sunday as Bunnings is closing

What? In WA they close at 7pm on a Sunday. Does this finally mean there's something which we're not backwards at compared to other states?

        • @Maverick-au:

This product will be suitable for the waste side of things, as for having no water, I highly doubt this product will repair (even temporarily) the supply side of things (500kPa or more).

Yep, they close at 6pm (I was thinking 5pm but that is Saturday) on Sundays here in QLD.

It's been tested to work at higher pressures, I wouldn't use it as a permanent fix and it's not going to suit all applications but as a temporary fix I don't think you can beat it for ease of application.

        • @Maverick-au:

          I'm fairly impressed.

        • @JB1:

          I'm fairly impressed.

And that was applied incorrectly as well, it's supposed to be really stretched on throughout the application. I keep some in the cars and at home but have never had to use it, the shelf life should be a long time as it's silicone based.

        • @banana365: 6pm in Victoria.

        • @JB1: they sure do, they even sell all the gas pipe and crimp fittings for a "proper" diy install.

Btw I don't have a problem with people saving money with diy, but you would be very surprised at what some people would consider "properly" which is what the lol was aimed at.

        • @banana365:
Sorry to disappoint you but no it doesn't,they also close at 7 here

        • @BeauKilla:

I think I'm fairly competent to fix most water related plumbing issues.

When it comes to repairing any gas related issues, I'm out and will call a plumber. You gotta know your limitations.

    • Use it for Tennis racket will give you the grip.

      • Lol i think it actually might work.

        • +1

Except it will cost you more than some grips

I fixed dripping u-bend under sink - simply wrapped it around a couple of times.
Useful temporarily pending a proper fix involving new pipes/seals etc.

  • metal fuel tank leak?

    • I think you need to wrap this tape around the object - it just doesn't stick on like a patch.

    • you'll need to wrap it around the fuel tank. Get a few more rolls.

  • I just bought some yesterday for $10.99…

    • +8

      You got "rolled" (get it?)

      • -1

we get it, the further elaboration actually detracts the humour

    • +2

You must be rolling it in to afford that kinda price..

      • +2

        Alright, wrap it up guys…

        • +1

          Can't. Stuck.

  • Hey OP, what do you mean by "airtight seal when cured" - do cure it by heating it with a flame?

    • It doesn't cure. It kind of "melts together" (self amalgamates).

  • -4

no deal, these can be found on ebay for $3 delivered or local option with 10 metres (instead of 3 metres) for $13 delivered

EPR (Ethylene Propylene) tape is different to silicon tape. -40 to +100°C service temperatures vs -50°C to +260°C temperatures with silicon.

    • Without a quality comparison "no deal" is not a very useful statement IMHO - Over 2 years old (if that matters, I don't know if this stuff deteriorates over time - it is a point in seller's favour being up front with this info) and different brand

    • The link in your post is not to silicone tape.

    • Great video & product looks impressive.
I see some fiberfix on ebay for around $5 a roll.
Anyone know if this is legit?

      • Most likely not as there are ones going for 30-40 dollars on ebay. No way they are comparable.

    • Pretty funny video - I actually made it to the very end which is rare for an ad.

    • Based on that Ad how can I not buy some? Might be the one product I get because of OzBargain the wife finally appreciates …

    • Tape racists

These are great to have in the car for emergencies.

    Heres some of its uses:

    • Keep it on board vehicles & equipment for emergency hose repair!
    • Seal leaky hoses, pipes, tubing, lines, & fittings
    • Neaten up lines and extension cords in stowage
    • Wrap tools and handles for a GREAT non-slip grip
    • Wrap wiring harnesses and custom split-looming
    • Waterproof electrical connections and terminals
    • Use it as an emergency fan belt!
    • Make emergency O-Rings
    • Wrap hydraulic fittings and other exposed metal connections to help prevent corrosion
    • Works even over wet, dirty, or oily surfaces!
    • Use it as a tourniquet or emergency wrap over bleeding injuries
    • Wrap it around ANYTHING that you want secure, and it will never leave any sticky residue!

That was very helpful for a non-auto person like me, thanks flipfire.

  • If you have a boat, throw a roll in the toolkit. This stuff is great. Seals water and fuel lines if split etc. Magic stuff.

  • +3

Good to place on wife' lips , and enjoy silence :)

    • More practical with the Bose QC25 or the like.

    • and no sticky residue.

  • Next Supercheap Auto $5 loyalty credit.. Tape was $5 last time…coincidence.. I think not!

  • Must have in your 4WD off-road tool box.

  • as I found out recently, adheres only to itself.

  • +1

Totally agreed, this is excellent stuff from a reputable and well regarded manufacturer (USA?), I bought a few in the last Specialbuys and it was due to come back again so I will def grab a couple of rolls. Aldi also stocked the putty from the same manufacturer recently which is worth picking up.

  • Would this work on Jacqui and Pauline?

  • +1

grabbed 2 this morning and 2 slinky while I was there. Thanks OP.

Got 1 of each colour :)
