      You snooze, you lose.

      • Hitting the snooze generates more sleep

        • +3

Hitting the snooze generates more sleep

          That's alarming !!!

        • @jv: This is alarming

          http://shopzero.com.au/suck-uk-clocky-alarm-clock-areaware-b…

          Sneaky little sucker!

Designed to jump from your nightstand and run around the room beeping if you press snooze or dont get up
          • Snooze can be set anywhere from zero to nine minutes, zero being to jump and run right away with no snooze for those earlier risers
          • Can jump up to three feet and land safely on your floor
          • Alarm beeps randomly and the screen flashes for the ultimate annoyance to get you out of bed

        • @malouphix:
Is it just me, or did the name "Suck Uk Clocky" read a little bit differently at first? I was about to buy several….

        • @Fybre: It is a tongue twister

        • @Fybre:

its like googling "grandfather clock" and forgetting the L.

Silly embedded ltihium ion battery in that recorder. The old Sony with easily removable batteries back in the day…oh how I miss it. Peak Waste today. Peak Waste. http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/sbc_lip4wm.jpg

    • -2

      Why is this getting downvotes?

      • +11

        Why is this getting downvotes?

Usually happens when something worthwhile is being said. I'm used to it.

        my guess:
        * not many with experience with the great older Sony hardware
        * not many caring about longevity or easy (quick) battery swaps, let alone years into the future
        * not many aware that batteries age & need eventual replacement
        * not many aware that they lose capacity as they age
        * most now buying new devices after only short periods of time (sometimes at low cost)
        * retiring the old stuff early (& never seeing the need for removable batteries)
        * changing perceptions of embedded batteries because they have an iPad or iPhone or android tablet/phone that "works fine" with an embedded battery
        * general ignorance / general apathy
        * despite the environmental propaganda, companies have stopped caring & so have their customers

        • +3

All batteries degrade. Some might see internal battery as a convenience.

        • +4

@Al Kider: Those people are stupid. There is nothing convenient about an internal battery. Nothing is convenient about having a product that deteriorates and can't be easily fixed for something as simple as battery degradation.

The only time a non removable battery should be accepted is when it is required for some other feature, such as waterproofing.

        • Usually happens when something worthwhile is being said. I'm used to it.

That doesn't make you sound pompous at all.

        • Look like sony marketing department coming after me now.

I do remember when sony was high quality. It was everything apple is today. Innovative, expensive, high quality, and came with proprietary connections even when not necessarily.

I think those days are finished.

        • @Al Kider:

Some might see internal battery as a convenience.

Not too convenient when you want power quickly and you have to wait to charge the single internal battery that happens to be flat. And not too convenient as the battery ages, trying to do surgery on a unit just to keep it useful beyond the life of the battery.

Most users simply dispose of the unit and buy another because it's all too much hassle and/or expense. Peak waste. In more promising news, Sony's other voice recorder models stick to removables. Easy enough to buy rechargeable AAAs today. Along with AA. And never be caught out.

    • Peak waste = peak sales.

Corporations are designed for profit to be the only objective. The greater good is not something important enough to consider.

      • …which makes it all the more weird that they have no problem sticking to removables in their other voice recorder models. I guess their primary objective with this model was smaller size. The screen isn't sunlight-viewable either…though it does great indoors.

    great clock

      • +2

and it still works.. just registered for the $25!

        • +1

You can still do the survey, but what makes you think you'll get the credit? The offer terms state it expired months ago.

        • @ezzaf: I got a message at the end saying $25 will be sent you in the next 7 days

      • +1

Thanks, waiting for my $25 voucher.

        • +4

          Finished survey never received it

        • +1

@neonlight: Ditto from that deal. Was pretty mad. Lost respect for Sony!

        • @fault:

And zero response from Sony neither.

For this reason I'm not buying PS4 Pro at release. Bring on the discount then I will think about it.

I will not be tempted to fill any surveys for Sony. Sony rep you hear that?

        • +4

          @neonlight: That's right. Teach them a lesson.

My local Coles had this clock radio about 4 weeks ago for $18. I bought one. Three weeks ago, they had them down to $15. I bought one. The week before last, the last one on the shelf was marked down to $5. I bought it.

If this isn't an example of impulse buying, I don't know what is!

      • +5

Well you clocked up a few buys there.

        • few buys fly buys

      • +3

at least you successfully killed my impulse.

      • +1

at least they don't feel single in your home.. how are the 3 doing?

      • @boodek Well you sir are a true ozbargainer!! RESPECT

    • I think the clock was $1.20 last time with the $30 code

Single Alarm Clock Radio $22 Delivered, 4GB Digital Voice Recorder

Is that so the alarm clock can record your snoring ???

    • +10

Yes, it's called the Single alarm clock for a reason. Targeted towards single people, it records the sounds of their breathing and snoring, so your following (lonely) nights it can play back the snoring to simulate the sounds a sleeping partner would make.

      foreveralone.jpg

      • It is called a full toss ball in cricket.

        • hmph…tosser!

  • I'm not a digital voice recorder expert, but $79 looks like a good price for that model. Seems to be pretty highly reviewed for interviews/note-taking, and it has a stereo mic.

Wish I had a reason to buy it…

    • +1

have you looked at zoom products? zoom H1 for instance? ive gota H2n and it's the sound quality is crisp and superb!

Analogue radio - which will eventually be switched off (although no date/timetable has been set)

    • How?

    • +1

Honestly I do not believe it would be turned off any time soon, as most of the people listen to the radio are in the car, they will loose a massive market.

      • +1

agreed. we are years and years off

    • +2

Analogue radio is used for emergency broadcasts which means it will be decades before that can be turned off.

  • +2

There's also this for $89, might only be a few in stock, but they seem to be taking backorders, pink only: http://store.sony.com.au/NWA25P.html
It's one of the Day 6 offers: http://store.sony.com.au/sonyx

    • What a bummer, the pink was a dealbreaker for me lol

      • Looks like it's sold out anyway and they're not taking back orders now. Pink wasn't a deal breaker for me, so I got one.

        • "this product is no longer available" but I still can check out to payment page, is it a backorder? may i ask when did you get it?tks

        • @Louis Litts:
I ordered just after 12. I've been keeping an eye on it, because I'd been looking for an mp3 player and this was in the picture for the 12 Deals of Christmas promotion. Before this it was letting me add 100 to my cart, but warned me that some were backorder. There used to be a range of colours and now there is only pink, it may just be the last of their stock. It won't let me click checkout when I add it to my cart now.

    • Anyone knows how this compares to an ipod? Of all the players I have used, my 7 year old ipod touch 3rd gen has the best sound quality and battery life which is why I continue to use it despite the annoying transfer process.

    • A fancy LCD screen will drain battery life. A good one would keep it simple.

  • Picked up this alarm clock for $19 earlier in the year care of Ozbargain and haven't had a problem with it! I've seen Harley Normal trying to sell them for $59.95 in store as well.

  • 4GB Digital Voice Recorder with Built-in USB $79

I rather pay a bit more to buy this CD-TX650 model.

    Built-in Memory
    16 GB

    Max. Recording time MP3 128kbps
    268 hrs

Battery Life for recording MP3 128kbps
    15 hrs

    Weight
    Approx 29 g

    • Pretty nice! Over twice the price though….

    • 120 pond is like 240 au, is that " a bit more“

      • GBP120 = AUD205

It has 4x more memory, 2x more battery life and 1/3 of the size.

        • 6 days left for your magical deal buddy hahaha

    • +2

Sorry for a dense question, but what's the point of a digital voice recorder in the smartphone age? I am guessing it has better quality mics etc, but if it's just for recording voice, does it really matter?

      • namely sound quality. Some smartphones, like the iPhone6, uses high-pass filters which cuts out sounds that are lower in frequency than 300 hertz. This technology eliminates a lot of wind noise and other background noise that happens at around 270 Hz but also makes voices sound tinny and distant.

With a voice recorder, the sounds you record (namely, people's voices) will sound more accurate.

      • According to this article, "handsets with Android 5 and above will accept any USB-connectible digital microphone via an USB OTG cable."
        http://www.phonearena.com/news/Five-great-external-microphon…

Plenty of good-quality USB microphones available, so I agree with you, just use a smartphone. With an external USB mic if you want high quality.

  • +1

Just an FYI for anyone interested in the alarm clock, I have had this one for a while and radio seems to go out of tune every couple of days and you have to move the little manual dial to get the station in tune again so I pretty much stopped using it.

That being said it could just be the area I'm in or I got a dodgy one.

    • $22 is still a gud price for a modern look digital clock

  • +3

cool…got one for the kids for xmas….they will be so happy to be woken up for school.

  • The best part about this clock is that the brightness is adjustable. I have mine set to the lowest and it's visible but doesn't light up the whole room like most clocks do.

    • Can you completely turn the display off separately from the rest of it? Or at least turn the backlight off entirely? It looks like a nice bedside alarm radio but I'm pretty sensitive to any sources of light when I'm trying to go to sleep.

      • Nope just 3 brightness levels to choose from.

  • +1

I got this clock when it was cheap at Woolworths a few weeks back. They can give off this annoying buzzing noise when no music is playing (e.g. it started doing it at 3am the first night I put it next to my bed). I thought it was a once-off, but it started doing it the following night too in the middle of the night.

I had to unplug it permanently and now it just sits next to my bed dead.

Other people on OzBargin where reporting the same issue in that deal, so it looks like it might be a design fault. Your millage may vary.

    • Thanks for the heads up. As nice a clock it is for the price I'd rather not risk hearing annoying buzzing noises at night time. I've finally moved into a house where neighbours, dogs, street noise etc are all very minimal at night time and I'm not giving that up for an alarm clock :P

    • I will just use it in the kitchen then. Better than most clocks more modern

  • Bought 2 radios for gifts! thanks OP

  • Get real, get a xiaomi mi bend, or whatever it calls. It can wake you up in your light sleep stage, feel much better

    • The whole sense-and-wake-you-when-you're-at-light-sleep, Does that thing actually work or is it just a gimmick?

      • To be very honest, I am not sure and do not have prove, but my experience has been positive. I think it vibrates when I sleep light, less intrusive than an alarm.

      • -1

        It's complete and utter bullshit.

    • +1

I don't think the Mi Band does the light-sleep-sensing-alarm thing… at least I haven't found that setting. It does do alarms though, and I prefer the vibrating alarm to a noisy one.

    • dont get too addicted to technology mate. Just think to yourself on the bed ill wake up at x am tomo and it will work

  • Like the other dedicated ozb's here i got this cheaper last time it came around! …one thing i don't like is the analogue rotary tuning ..too hard to find stations in the dark presets or bust these days !

  • I have this clock and it looks great, never actually used the radio or the alarm function once because it's sitting on a counter top mostly serving as a clock.

One minor annoyance is that the Australian market version can only display in 12-hour time with an AM-PM indicator, unlike the European version which will display 24-hour time, and there's no way of switching as it's programmed in. All my other watches/clocks/phones except this one have been set to display 24-hour time so something to consider if you've got a bit of OCD.

  • Does anyone know what the frequency range is for AM and FM on this?

Can't find it in the specs..

    • Will be just the stock standard AM and FM frequencies. Unless you want to be woken up to ATC or emergency services? ;)

  • faahh can use the code due to minimum spend is 25$ . what should i do

    • Weep

  • If only they gave me a voucher back then with the survey

  • +1

Goddamn it Sony! I want to use my voucher and can't remember my password. Tried to use the reset password feature and it's not sending me emails (yes, checked spam!). I ordered with that account in the past, so I know it exists.

    shakes fist at screen

  • 4GB voice recorder is showing as out of stock now

  • My alarm clock arrived today. They're quick.

    • Mine didn't. Where are you from and what time did you place the order?

      • Melbourne, placed order at 4:30pm on the day of the sale.

  • Yeah got my voice recorder today also - smoking fast.
Pretty damm good unit - has microsd slot so peeps worried about 4GB need not - 32GB went into mine no probs.
Surprised by the amount of functionaility this little unit has.
