    Awesome!
    Finally 9V LSD batteries.
And a $20 charger with LCD readout.

    • +2

      Are they LSD?

      • +1

It states so on the packaging!

    • Similar charger was 15 bucks the first time they sold it. It's a good charger but suffered from the usual issue intelligent chargers suffer from which is it won't charge a dead battery, so I have to charge them for a few minutes on a dumb charger first if they were in a low draw device

      • How does it compared to La Crosse Technology BC-700?

        • +1

I don't have a La Crosse to compare it to, but looking at them this one does all sizes while the La Crosse is AA/AAA only. For 20 bucks I think it compares favourably, unless someone can tell me of a useful feature the Lacrosse has that this doesnt

    • Alternatively Bunnings has Varta 9V LSD 200mAh for $9.90 or these 200mAh from overseas for $8.91. From the picture looks like the Aldi's are 175mAh. (Coincidentally have just been looking to get some. Guess I'll give the Aldi one a try, but didn't like the Aldi AA and AA's since none were near their rated capacity)

I wonder what the charge rates on the charger are.. guessing Aldi won't have any specs online for it.

Just those two games? Bit overpriced if i must say so.

Is that TV any good? idc about smart TV.

    • +10

This is not smart tv as there is no wifi or apps. You will have way better features if you buy chromecast or cheap android box compare to any smart tv in the market.

      • +14

I said idc about it being smart but Ty for the reply.

        • +12

Most smart tv are rubbish because they are slow and barely get any updates. Chromecast is the best cheap alternative and will work with any tv with HDMI.

        • +60

@Bnjam3: he said he doesn't care about it being smart but ty for the reply again

        • +7

@Bnjam3: you're still not even close to answering the original question

(Idc stands for "I don't care")

        • +13

@yktan: for some weird reason i thought he said idk. I guess its coffee time ;\

        • +1

          @Bnjam3: idc # i dont know. it is I dont care ;)

        • +4

@Bnjam3: you actually did help me, while I don't care about smart the back of my mind was saying "what if I later want it".

I think I'll buy this! I got 60 days to decide I hate it anyway.

        • +1

@Slippery Fish: i picked up a 40" 4k from Aldi a month or so back. I'm happy with mine, for the price couldn't go too wrong. Probably from the same range, so let me know if you have any questions.

        • +1

@chriise: how was the sound? Should I budget for a soundbar? (and if so any suggestions for 1-200 bucks)

        • @Slippery Fish: yeh the sound is terrible on mine. someone else mentioned this below too. i keep meaning to kit up a sound bar that i've got, but don't have an AU plug for it so cba.

        • @Slippery Fish: Sound is usually always crap with TV nowadays, just invest into a soundbar, it will make a huge difference.

        • +7

@Bnjam3: chromecast is so not the best option. It essentially functions as a wireless HDMI cable. (I know it fetches the streaming video itself, but it's not particularly good). I have chromecast, Apple TV and a dodgy android box. The android box is the best for sure, but the Apple TV has the best interface. The chromecast is a distant last.

        • +1

          @Jayjay93: >invest into a soundbar

It's a losing investment, not recommended as a money making instrument.

        • +7

That's the problem when people use stupid/uncommon acronyms. It would be much easier if people could just type 3 simple words

        • +2

@Diji1: Better or worse than an $80k car?

        • @Bnjam3: But, not play all media formats. It is also really an extension for another device and does not have the flexibility of apps like found with an Android box, or even a slow Smart TV.
What I am getting at is that the two options are Apples and Oranges.

        • @thorton82:

Id say get Android TV, like the new Xiaomi Mi Box which supports 4K

        • @4agte: uncommon? Lol like a 5 cent coin…

Yes uncommon. Who speaks like that besides 14 year old girls? I stick to English

@4agte: I had a job that lasted 9 months where my basic duties consisted of asking people the meaning of acronyms… just a brilliant example of why the mining "boom" failed in such a ridiculous fashion :D

        • @4agte: hi I'm the FBI, want to meet up? ;) rofl

Acronyms change with every generation, some dieing some being created. That is the way language evolves, English for just about every 30-11 year old now includes internet derived Acronyms.

This would actually make a great forum topic. Next you will bad-mouth contronyms

        • @llama: my point was that it was not actually uncommon, as everybody else reading it seemed to understand it was i dont care. Also you failed to prove your point as that was very easy to read :) and i doubt someone using an acronym to be a smartass

        • @Slippery Fish:

OzBargain itself is a contronym. To save and to spend

I do agree it would make a fairly interesting topic.

        • +2

          @Slippery Fish:

soundbar? (and if so any suggestions for 1-200 bucks)

Not a sound bar, but excellent speakers: Logitech Z623, deal on now: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/280554
$99 plus shipping. Price match at Officeworks if you can't pick up, they will deliver for free.

        • @Russ:

I bought a set of these from Bing Lee a few weeks ago as we just moved into a new house and the layout of the loungeroom doesn't suit my old hifi system. The sound blew me away so much I bought another 3 during the Good Guys 20% off sale for other rooms in the house.

Pretty spectacular for something under $100. I also like how you can just connect them up using the headphone output from the TV which makes turning the volume up/down easy as.

        • +1

          @BeRad:

my point was that it was not actually uncommon, as everybody else reading it seemed to understand it was i dont care.

My point is that in an effort to save typing just SIX letters, SlipperFish caused numerous people to completely misunderstood the question.

I didn't have a clue what SlipperFish meant, although I recognised "idc" as an acronym and that "I Don't Care" is one meaning of it. It was the WHOLE comment "idc about Smart TV" that confused people (like me) because this isn't a Smart TV in the first place.

So when I read that, I couldn't work out what other acronym "idc" might have meant in the context of that particular comment. Why mention Smart TV at all?

        • @llama: Hey i get it. Don't want to go on with it. Communication does need to take into account the audience reading it and while a majority of people here seemed to understand, there is always going to those that don't. Perhaps it's a chance to educate yourself how other people communicate. Or not.

wait for the hisense m7000 deal. Don't buy the Aldi crap

      • Which hisense m7000 deal are you referring to?

        • The one which will inevitably come before christmas. Fingers crossed ;P

        • @Zarcady: what price is it anticipated to drop to? And is the m7000 the HDR compatible model?

        • +1

@Gavman: considering the 50" just hit a new low of $998 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/280497), im expecting the 55" to fall below the 1k mark by Christmas. Personally Im waiting for the 70" version to drop to around $1600 mark before I pull the trigger.

And yes the m7000 model has an HDR10 panel, which is the new HDR standard you should look out for.

        • @Zarcady: I've read good things about the new 7000 series hisense. How does the new LG HDR models compare. I know they are more expensive but are they better build also considering they have 1 yr warranty compared to 3. Tossing up between the two at the moment.

        • @Gavman: I've read reviews which point to the Hisense matching the best high end LEDs on the market from Sony. Even if they don't live up to that claim, they will likely blow anything under $3k out of the water.

        • @Gavman: Im all for LG and other reputable brands for most things but Ive been looking for a while and you really cant beat it for the price. No comparable TV at this price/size ratio is going to beat the m7000, and at best they will only feature 8 bit HDR and no wide colour gamut. Go and see in store for yourself which is the best way to compare

        • @Zarcady: this is the LG model I was looking at https://www.binglee.com.au/lg-49uh652t-49-uhd-smart-led-tv

I know it's around $300 more expensive so would it be worth the investment or would I be better off with the hisense?

        • @Gavman: Ive just briefly scanned the specs and its a 10bit panel which is good but I cant find any reviews with actual test results.

My uneducated opinion would be that you will definitely be happy with the LG but at a 49" size and $300 more expensive, I would be looking at a bigger screen hisense for your dollar. This TV will not provide a superior PQ to the hisense if anything the hisense will still provide a better image overall, its just a matter of how much the branding means to you (and im a korean recommending a chinese brand over a korean one lul).

    • For this price, I wouldn't be surprised if it was not hdcp 2.2 certified. If it's not hdcp 2.2, it's useless for 4k.

      • Why does hdcp 2.2 matter? Just curious.

        • Hdcp2.2 is required for Hdr and for the playback of uhd bluray and some uhd media. It's a copy protection thing.

        • @DangerNoodle: so you are saying that without HDCP 2.2 you cannot watch 4k content on your UHD (4k) TV. Even if you have 4k videos on phone, it won't show in 4k but Full HD only?

        • +2

          @Oz Bargain 3:

You don't need HDCP for your home movies. But Netflix or blu-ray will not stream UHD without it.

They will downgrade the signal to FHD, but since nobody will notice the difference, nobody complains.

Of course, HDCP2.2 is just the latest round of a long, expensive game of whack-a-mole.
If its not broken already it soon will be.

          http://www.myce.com/news/is-the-hdcp-2-2-copy-protection-bro…

        • Indeed it does. This makes it better than the TV that big w have.

  • Any one care to comment on the TV? I know nothing about TV's, I can't justify spending over $1000, but also don't want something thats really going to make me want to replace it in a year.

    • +3

60 days satisfaction guarantee. Buy it and try it for 59 days, if you are unhappy simply take it back next day. Also they claim the tv support 4k@60HZ(You will need HDMI 2.0 compatible device) so should be good for everything including gaming(Assuming acceptable input lag).

      • +3

it's a "dumb" TV which is good as "smart" TVs become obsolete as manufacturers stop providing updates.

buy a semi decent android box to go with it.

        • +2

Yeah true and lets not talk how slow and laggy they are even when they are new. Chromecast is the best choice for basic user and they can upgrade later to 4k android boxes if they wish :)

        • +1

@Bnjam3: depends on the box and what you want to use it for. I have 2 a mtk3229(?) And a s905. Both are good for web browsing and media playback . they do everything I need and work well.

        • @Bnjam3: Not totally true. I'm actually using netflix / youtube on my smart hisense TV. Not laggy at all and really useful. Was using Chromecast before on my previous TV, but always needed to cast stuff from my computer/phone. Now having one button "Netflix" and "Youtube", on my remote controller and then navigate with the arrow make it really easy.

        • @Bnjam3: Chromecast are a bit sluggish best of grabbing a high end MINIX worth the money in the end if you no how to use it :)

    • I got one to use as a (work, not gaming) monitor.
The picture is ok, but the sound is a little tinny (very small speakers).

      • oh yeh, the sound is godawful

      • Does it do 4k@60hz chroma 4:4:4?

        • +1

Sorry, I don't know. My laptop only does 4k@30Hz over HDMI, and this doesn't have DP.

        • @ajd4096: Does your laptop have usb type c? I've got a usb type c to hdmi 2.0 adapter that works brilliantly. Much nicer to watch that mouse cursor moving around with 60hz.

      • how's the input lag?

      • +3

        Hows your neck?

        • Hehe. I have my main windows on the bottom 2/3 of the screen so they're lower than the multiple monitors I was using. Looking at the top 1/3 is a stretch though.

    • I think the price for this TV is pretty good. I bought the Aldi/Bauhn 49" smart TV in UHD a few months back for $549 (I think, don't remember for sure) and the smart TV feature is useless. It takes a lifetime to load up Youtube, and I can't stream any videos from my PC even though the manual said that it was supported. Emailed the Bauhn support email address but have not got any replies to this day. Ended up getting a Chromecast and it worked wonderfully. Now this TV is finally 'smart'. So for $499 and a bigger size, definitely get this one.

      • I've had the exact opposite experience with my Aldi 55" smart tv
playing youtube videos is a breeze

using chromecast to do the same is a pain (I am new to chromecast, and most times the phone has trouble connecting to the tv!)
screen mirroring is choppy at best!

On my previous panasonic tv, youtube and netflix was a breeze

    • I ended up getting one a few months ago. It was the 48" one for $449. Quite happy with it.
See image link below. The only thing that was wrong was a few dead pixels, but ended up taking it back and swapping over for a new one.

The controller is the play and charge bundle, so reasonable value considering it includes the USB cable and the rechargeable batteries.

    • +1

This tempts me cos free stuff.. however my eneloop collection tells me i have no use for it

    • That makes more sense, otherwise it's higher than the normal price at Target.

Sadly, it appears to not be the S controller, so no Bluetooth. Does have the headphone jack though.

  • $500 for a 4K 55" TV and you can take it back within 60 days, bargain!
    Cheap computer monitor too.

  • I'd say the Target sale this Thursday on the old school 1Tb Xbone with the Halo bundle is a better deal.. albeit an additional $20.

    • +1

Same xbox so $20 for Halo, depends if you want to play that game or not haha

  • from 17 Dec :)

  • +6

Forza 5 is currently $20 at Target.

  • +1

    does the TV support HDR10?
    PVA or IPS or TN?

    • +3

It's $500, would be basic and lowest spec 4K panel.

    • Can anything under $2k do proper HDR10? From what I've read, even if a TV can do HDR, most of the time it's better to leave it off on cheaper TVs that aren't able to display it as intended.

      • I think Panels are the bottleneck. That is, we don't yet really have displays capable of the gamut the specs talk about. You especially can't expect to get close using the bottom of the range panels.

  • Any info on the 'VR 360 Camera'?
