Armrests seem a bit flimsy, but apart from that it looks like a decent chair for <$50.

    • +10

Its a shit chair. I bought the same one from aldi last year.
The seat depth is not enough and with that back support it makes you feel like you're being pushed off the seat.

      • +4

definitely should save up for a good chair. we end up spending 1000s of hours on em so they aren't something to cheap out on

      • +3

Same here mate, I bought two last year also.
        Will not recommend.
the pads are too thin, i have to add cushion underneath
but that's not a good solution though, it just doesn't gives you the comfort while seating on it.
And yes the seat depth is definitely not enough, way too short, very uncomfortable, it hurt my thighs while sitting on it.
And after using it for a year, it started making squeaky noise now.
And yes, like the other said, definitely should save up for a good chair.

      • This is probably the best office chair you're going to get under $50. I bought this two years ago and still looks new. Yes the padding is a bit thin and while leaning back sometimes you do get scared falling backwards but would still recommend it because it's easy to move around, light, comfortable and of course cheap!

      • i got one too. it's creaky as heck now and not sure how to lube it up.

wakes up the fam when i'm gaming at night :(

  • +3

Hey thanks I busted my old chair last week, been looking for a new one (and can't afford an Aeron. :) )so I might check this one out.

  • +4

I bought this for my partner during the last sale. She's very happy with it and she has back issues. It has adjustable lumbar support.

    • Also easy to assemble.

      • How's the armrests?

I'm used to having ones with padding and in the photos the arm rests look like hard plastic?

        • +1

They're hard plastic and not adjustable.

        • @sween64:

Thanks, I might give this one a miss then.

        • +2

          @sween64:

Can the armrests be left off the chair altogether during installation?

        • +1

          @cytotoxic: Yes, I think so.

    • On your one, how is the back attached? Does it bolt to the wooden part of the seat, or is there continuous steel all the way fom the gas strut to the back?

I have a different Aldi chair, looks like this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46104 and it has problems. The back attaches to the seat, and the wood of the seat has cracked and flexed, so now the back won't stay upright if I lean on it. That's why I want to know if your one has steel all the way.

      • +3

No idea. Send me a message at 6pm AEDT and I'll check.

        • did you check?

        • Any chance you could tell me how high the top of the seat is from the ground at maximum height setting? My current chair is too low at 45cm

        • @aussieboozer: Again. PM me at 6pm AEDT and I'll check.

        • @aussieboozer:

Height of the seat at the lowest setting 470mm
Height of the seat at the highest settting 560mm

      • +1

The back of the chair bolts on to the seat. Sorry for the late reply.

      • +2
        • Thanks so much!

That's pretty similar to the way my office chair is. After a few months the wooden seat started to flex along the line between the two bits of metal (the seat base and the bracket holding the back) and now it's only usable as a stool.

I'll wait for one with a better mounting for the back.

    • My wife also has back issues.

But a suitable chair (to work from home) in our work needs a high AFRDI rating. Do you know the rating on this chair?

      • +1

        Shaggers back

      • +1

Try it, if it doesn't suit you can always return it.

    • +3

I'm looking for a chair to have some good seated sex on. I'm aware that the partner plays a big part in this but will the chair hold up to my exploits in your opinion / experience ?

      • +10

        Max. weight: 120kg

        • Does the 120kg max weight include spinning on it while doing said activity?

        • @fadeinthemix: if the partner is suspended upside down from the ceiling and not applying any weight to the chair, sure.

  • +2

Would these be better than the Bathurst chairs from Officeworks? Have the Bathurst chairs ever been this cheap?

    • My son has a bathurst chair and after a couple of years the padding has gone flat-ish and the coating is flaking off the pleather.

      • +3

Honestly any chair is going to have that problem.

        • Apart from a real leather one.

I've been going through one of the PU pleather chairs every ~2 years as of the last 10 because of the peeling and thinning of padding.

If there was a company out there that make a chair that costs $1000+ that just had a 10+ year or lifetime guarantee on the leather not peeling or the padding not thinning out - I'd consider it just on the savings alone. Mesh works great for the back, but I really do like the feel of leather or PU pleather padding on armrests and the butt.

        • @c0balt:
          Do you sit naked?

        • @c0balt: Tried wearing leather pants?

      • +4

If you want a chair that will last, consider buying a car front seat from the auto wreckers, and mount it on a base from an old office chair. Car seats are built to last, and use springs as well as foam for the comfort. However a lot of auto wreckers leave the car windows wide open, so there could be water damage. See if you can get a seat from a car that has just come in.

If you pay a bit extra you can have lumbar support, or maybe even leather seats.

        • What a great idea!!

        • +3

          @placard:

I should have added that mounting a car seat isn't a trivial task. The base of car seats is significantly "taller" than office chairs, you need to find some wheels and a gas strut that will go down much further than normal, or be really crafty with the mounting. I'm trying it myself at the moment, but having difficulty because the mouting points for my car seat aren't all at the same height, nor in the same plane (three vertical bolts, one horizontal bolt).

See this post, with pictures, for someone else who has done this:

        • any idea on how to get the arm rest along with this setup , sounds interesting

        • +1

          @kamban:

If your "donor" chair for the wheels has armrests, maybe you can use those? Note that many armrests attach to the back of the seat as well, you won't be able to use those. The chair in this deal had armrests that bolt only to the seat, maybe you can find something similar: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46104

Not sure if the armrests will be high enough though.

Perhaps buy the chair in this deal, it has separate armrests, and the wheels look sturdy.

        • @Russ: I'll do sopme resarch and see if I can improvise something , thanks mate :)

        • +1

@Russ: The links to the pictures no longer work. :(

I have the Bathurst chair too, it's probably 3 years old now. I wouldn't want it again, the padding is terrible and it looks terrible now.

      • Would you recommend another chair from Officeworks then?

    • I've had the Bathurst chair for 4 years. I love it. It's got a head rest and padded, adjustable arm rests. I don't think it gets cheaper than $100 though.

      • I bought a conference table and some their leather and chrome sling chairs from an office in the city years go, I cut the table in half and now have 2 large console tables, and haggled the guy down to $35 a chair. No swivels though. My point, there are lots of ways you can get a good chair in your house cheap.

    • +1

Had Bathurst chair for 2 years. Similar problems with flat padding, flaking PU leather. Looks bad .
Bathurst chair is definitely a no-no if you need to sit on for extended times. Back is fixed and screwed and screws your back.

I have now bought Buro metro and likiing it till now. Having said that I have been using it only for 2 weeks now.

  • +1

Good for smaller people? I have the metro buro chair and is to big for me

    • +15

Yeah I was wondering this as well. Its the official ozbargain chair but its way too big for me. Its lik all those Ozbargainers have been binging on KFC and Hungry Jacks deals…

      • +5

Clearly someone that binges on KFC and Hungry Jacks negvoted you.

      • +1

        what's your height?

        • I'm 173cm, 32 waist, 70kg. On the smaller side but not by much!

        • @aNoPHeLeS:

Yeah I got this chair too and find it a bit big, my feet can't touch the ground fully if I sit right back lol

        • @aNoPHeLeS:
wow that's very close to my dimensions. I've never considered myself small though. Those buro chairs must be huge

        • @montorola:

          Yeah me to, never really flat foot on the ground and if i am its if i slouch;

My heights about 170cm to smaller build.

          This chair suitable reckon?

        • @Godric:

Hard to say, I've never seen a chair assembled in Aldi to try before you buy. I guess it's worth a shot, if all else fails you can always return it within 60 days. $50 is pretty good for a mesh chair, it's a lifesaver in this damn heat!!!

        • +1

          @montorola:
Yeah good call might be worth the gamble then; although with things like this getting a refund is unlikely due to me being lazy with disassembly :(

        • @Godric:

You don't need to assemble it nor disaasemble it - just buy it, PM a few other people from this thread to find out how good it was, and take it back if they say it was bad. If they say it was good, THEN you assemble it.

        • @Godric: They can't insist you disassemble it, as long as every part is returned, you are good.

        • @stormii: saw a guy returning telescope at my local Aldi, didn't bother to fold the tripod with telescope still attached on it and staff didnt bat an eyelid.

  • +4

    max weight 120kg

Damn that rules me out then

    • +13

      And probably half of Ozbargain.

      • +17

I blame the hungry jacks deals and phone being fine to redeem the offers

        • you mean the millions of dominos deals we had!

    • +1

      spread yourself over two chairs

      • That's actually a great idea, I could remove the arm rests and sit cross legged on the double chair

  • +2

I bought this during the last sale too. I'm pretty happy with it.

  • last chair I bought from Aldi I returned a few days later as it was lopsided.
They took it back without issue which is good but the build quality is what you pay for in the end and these are cheap

  • +1

Looks similar to my Schiavello which is a $500 chair which started falling apart not long after I bought it. Probably quite a good buy at $50 brand new, looks better than the crap i've seen in Officeworks etc.

  • +2

Let's hope that the chair isn't a women's deodorant in disguise..
    http://www.kiis1065.com.au/entertainment/the-feed/shoppers-f…

  • waiting for a buro metro sale but nothing as of yet… wondering if this will do the job in the meantime
any one had both and wanna shed light?

    cheers!

    • I don't have the Aldi chair but I'm going to assume it will start to break down in 2 years time. I do have the buro chair and it is the best investment ever.
My back is not sore anymore and the chair does not look like breaking down anytime soon.

It is 5x the price, but it is solidly built, and your back will thank you.

  • I'm tempted to buy this.
Realised I spend way too much time in front of my pc to sit on a shoddy chair.

    • +2

If you spend a lot of time sitting every day you should be considering a quality chair like a Steelcase Leap.

      • +1

Ill definitly look into it cheers, just never knew how many options there were!

        • +1

like legit my life is very different since I have discovered ozbargain, love it

  • +2

This is a great chair. Bought one a couple of years ago(yes they are still selling the same chair) and it is still going strong. The chair cushion has flattened a bit but that can easily be fixed or you can put your own cushion. The chair is comfortable and sturdy so it will last many more years to come

    • Reckon it may be suitable for a smaller statured person?

  • +2

Does anyone know if you able to take the arms off the chair so it'll fit under my desk? Can they be unscrewed and removed?

    • +6

      Yes they can be removed

    • +1

      Edit: Got beaten..

  • awesome chair more comfortable than herman miller aeron

    • Does this for reals compare, because I will buy 2 if they are comfy.

      • +2

        methinks he doth jest……

        • the chair cushion sinks after a while. That can be fixed by steam moping the chair and then vacuuming it. Otherwise use a cushion

  • -1

    Max. weight: 120kg

That rules out most of Ozbargain then.

    • 1h18min too late for this comment

  • No matter the quality, that is a good price for a high backed tilt/swivel chair.

  • Damn, should I not have gotten the Aeron For $1K a pop?

    Looks very similar.

  • -2

People on oz bargain have no humour at all..all the funny post negged…

    Sad people sad…

    mixo

P.s while on the chair was it got soft wheels like the ikea chairs do or just hard plastic ones like office works.

  • +4

I'm thinking about getting 6 of them and using them as dining chairs.. gf thinks its a ridic idea, dumbest idea i've ever had apparently

    • Sounds great!!

    • +5

Clearly your girlfriend hasn't hosted a gaming, booze & junk food party at the dining table before.

      I support your idea.

  • -2

do all aldi sell this in store or is it only online?
