Try out VoiP cheap telephone calls for just $9.95; easy installation (MyNetFone V200 Adaptor)
Pay $9.95 for their V200 adaptor and select their SuperSaver plan. ($10 credit included + free freight)
Roughly speaking, you plug their V200 adaptor between your broadband modem and the PC or network box that currently plugs into your modem. Then plug a regular phone into their V200 adaptor.
Then make calls like you normally would, using the phone that is plugged into the MyNetFone adaptor.
This gives you a another phone line to call out on and cheap calls (check against your existing phone plan to see which is cheaper). Also, as the plan is $0.00 per month, you only pay for what you use.
Free freight; they will ship the address to where you want in Australia.
$10.00 credit included for making calls, so your investment is paid off immediately.
Local and interstate calls are untimed $0.125.
Mobile calls are $0.27/min.
SMS $0.15
They require direct debit authorisation for your credit card. That does not have to mean automatic direct debit; it depends how you set it up.
The phone adaptor is locked to MyNetFone.
I think 13 and 1300 numbers are $0.25 untimed … that’s more expensive than several Telstra plans.
Comments about the author.
I do not work for MyNetFone, however I’ve been a customer of MyNetFone for a few months now.
Call quality is not always as clear as my landline but generally fine. I’ve only experienced one outage so far.
I’m no longer on the SuperSaver plan as I upgraded my plan.
I think I’m using a Netgear TA612V adaptor and not the V200.
It looks like you can get better call rates with MNF’s whirlpool offers

10 cents for local/national calls, instead of 12.5
!!!
Didn’t know about that :P
Those are good!!!
Seriouusly, kycw, post that as a bargain now, or let me know if you don’t want to :)
Quick link for people who want to get the deal now.

It’s been posted before actually.
I have got a stupid question, if my internet is shaped/capped for the month, I basically can’t use VoIP, is that right? What would be the minimum upload speed for acceptable call quality?
Oh :)
Didn’t see it before.
Probably talk to the MyNetFone people. They said something to me about my Internet Provider does not see them.
Alternatively, you could take a punt, paying $9.95 and going on that nice $0.00 a month Whirlpool plan (you can upgrade later if it works and all makes sense, or just stay on that plan :) )
I originally took a punt on a USB phone with them.
That’s not recommended. After much work on set up, I finally worked out my firewall wouldn’t let the calls through and I couldn’t configure it to let them through.
i personally use worlddialpoint WDP, havent had any problems with at all with them, credit doesnt expire, no monthly fees (for outgoing only service), have the occassional scheduled outage but thats it, service has never stopped working, rates are generally cheaper than most

Glad to hear it helped … :)

Thanks for the tip.
WDP looks good for some situations, but probably not for the people who like the look of this offer.
This is easy installation, making calls using your existing telephone, with a low start up cost ($9.95), and credit included to cover that ($10).
To get hardware from WorldDialUp, looks like it starts from $79 + $20 postage. That’s nearly $100 with only $5 credit … If for some reason it doesn’t work, that’s potentially $100 lost, instead of $9.95.
Personally, I prefer the hardware, where I don’t have to reconfigure my computer. I have a pretty good firewall and unfortunately I can’t configure it to let software based VoIP work at the same time.
Quick comparison of $0.00 a month plans; WDP Basic Residential, MyNetFone WhirlPoolSaver
MyNetFone gives you a phone number, WDP doesn’t.
WDP is 1.1 cents cheaper for calls to your city, and 0.1 cents cheaper for direct calls elsewhere in Australia.
MyNetFone calls to 13 numbers are 5 cents cheaper.
Both give free 1800 calls.
MyNetFone calls to mobiles are 10 cents cheaper per minute.
Outages … okay, MyNetFone has had 1 unplanned outage that affected me, whereas WDP hasn’t had unplanned outages that affect you.
Based purely on my call usage, I’d choose MyNetFone over WDP as sometimes my family will call a 13 number or a mobile number using the VoIP.
Though, if unplanned outages (that one seemed to be a few hours) reoccur, I will reconsider my position.
Good summary Foundit.
With the exception of the outage last week I have found MNF quite reliable. So much so my last Telstra bill for calls was $2.15 then $89 for line rental. So last month I switched to the basic service of $19.95 a month. MNF bills for the 3 months was around $50
However after the last outage I might just get another account with another provider - one of the no cost unless you use it plans - just as a back up

I think the full process for installation is something like this:
1. Power off your broadband modem and whatever device plugs into the modem (computer or network box).
2. If you plugged your V200 adaptor into a powerpoint, unplug it.
Plug the V200 adaptor into the modem.
Power up your modem and wait a minute or two (so you get a connection going)
Plug a regular phone into the V200 (you can start making calls now)
You can now power up the device that was plugged into your modem if you want to use it.
That was for installation. These mornings I just power up the modem and MyNetFone adaptor when I walk past it, and use the phone later if I need to.
I kept the landline for emergency calls, 13 and 1300 numbers, and for receiving faxes.
I plan to drop to a cheaper landline plan soon though.
Remember to check with MyNetFone about your set up to make sure it’s compatible etc.
