Up to 30K QFF Points for Joining Qantas Life Insurance Approx $17 Per Month. 60 Day Minimum

3630

Hi All,

Stumbled across this deal where if you sign up to Qantas Life Insurance and also add another service such as total disability cover you can get 30,000 points on sign up.

What I did was put the lowest possible cover for Life Insurance which was $100,000 and then the lowest possible for Total Permanent Disability Insurance and the total came to $16.87 per month.

The best thing about this is that the 30,000 QFF points are credited after 60 days, so essentially you are looking at 30K points for around the cost of $34.00.

T&Cs simply state:
1 Policyholders will earn 10,000 Qantas Points for purchasing one Qantas Assure Life Protect Insurance and 30,000 for purchasing two or more. Qantas Points will be credited after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. Not available to existing Qantas Assure Life Protect policyholders.

When I change my policy cover the bonus points remains the same, so I only assume they will provide the points to you after 60 days, does not mention anything about a minimum specifc for coverage.

Good luck all and have a play around with the various types of minimum cover to see if you can get it cheaper.

What profession did you put to get that?

    • +22

      Insurance professional.

      • +16

i cant find bargain professional though

    • best I could get it down to was about $65 per month

      • Sorry to put this comment in here. Wanting to get it on top. Was wondering if anyone has got their points through yet. I am on 71st day and still no points credited. Thanks

        • +1

If you jump to the end of the thread then yes, a number of people got their points, including me.

  • +5

Thanks OP, was able to get it down to $11.75/month by selecting only the cheapest options within Life Insurance and Trauma Insurance (wasn't eligible for TPD).

    • +3

Wow that's cheap! cheapest 30KQFF you will ever earn.

      • edit: disregard, saw the clarification below

      • Can someone use QFF at places other than Qantas tickets such as some other rewards?

    • How much did you put for the Trauma Insurance Cover?

      • $100,000 was the minimum for me

    • +1

I got it down to just over $10 a month! Being young and healthy plus plus!

    • Did anyone know what's the policy cancelling procedure? Simply as online cancel? Or gotta spend 15 minutes ringing up and tell them all these bullshit why you cancelling ??!!

  • whats the dollar value of 30K QFF?

    • +5

$150-200 odd if redeeming for vouchers etc.

better used for reward flights, for eg you can fly from Melbourne to Sydney for 8000pts + $30 in fees.

Or use to upgrade flights etc

    • +2

      At 0.7c it's equivalent to $210

      • thanks guys, will do this. :)

    • +4

if you sell on Ozb classifieds you can get $300 (1c per point)

      • +1

Dumb question, how to sell the QFF and to whom?

        • +1
        • +3

an ozbargain member by the name of tuvz buys them, I can recommend him as reliable, i sold over 100,000 points to him no problems :)

        • +1

          @Riczter:

How do you transfer the points? how much did you sell 100k for?

        • +2

          @tajid:

1c per point, so $1000, I was stoked haha. You transfer them on the QFF website using the Transfer to family feature. Technically it goes against their terms of use if it isnt family, so if that's a moral issue for you you shouldn't do it, but lots of people do it, you just say hes a second cousin or step brother in law or something haha ;) The transfer itself is done using paypal payments and skype screen share for proof of payment, or thats how it was done with me anyway. Hope that helps.

        • +1

          @Riczter:
hi mate - if you have any more of those points you're looking to sell i'm happy to pay the going rate.

i'm currently stationed in Philippines so ozbargain won't let me hit you up on pm.. let me know!

        • +1

@Riczter: alternatively one can get married via skype late at night before the transfer and get it annulled in the morning after payment has cleared

  • +1

    thanks, I shall sign up.

  • +7

Please be aware that the promo says UPTO 30,000 QFF points. Looking at the T&C's, you only get 10,000 points for a single policy, whereby to get the full 30,000, you need to purchase two or more policies.

Policyholders will earn 10,000 Qantas Points for purchasing one Qantas Assure Life Protect Insurance and 30,000 for purchasing two or more.

    • +6

I'm quite sure the life insurance, TPD and Trauma all count as separate policies.
When I checked the trauma insurance box the banner updated from 10k FF points to 30k

      • +1

        ok yep:

"selecting an additional cover below will earn you 30,000 Qantas Points. That's 3x the Points"

    • disregard

  • +11

I was able to get it down to $8.75/month by removing all additional options with 100k of life and 100k of TDP.

Computer Engineer (Software) as the occupation and answered no to all questions.

    • Niceee. Can you cancel after 60 days?

    • Must be based on age and location. I did the same and mine is $14.97
….or $29.94 for 60 days to avail of the 30,000 points.

    • +1

Followed your method, clicked NO to all 'About You' questions, got ~$10/month

By adjusting the Options on the final screen from Illness Cover to Accident Cover (for both Life & TPD policies), was able to get the quote down further to $8.00/month! Bargain!

Could possibly be even cheaper if you're younger than me. That's some cheap QFF points if they honour this.

      • Yes - I just did same and see it now is $7.71.

EDIT : I see you can only proceed by calling them up.

        • +1

How did you get it that low? I'm still getting $26.50 after excluding everything. Also how much was your cover amount? You need two or more cover to get the full 30k points.

        • @nightelves: It's definitely linked to age, and profession to a degree as well. The younger you are the cheaper.

Life & TPD are the cheapest policies, Accidental cover only is the cheapest option. I got mine to a combined $8.00/month, couldn't get it lower as someone age 30.

        • @nightelves:

Select the first two of four policies. Then go into the options of each one and start turning things off.

Iv noticed the calculations are not bullet proof though. Sometimes when turning options on, and back off again, it doesnt always recalculate.

If in doubt, switch the policy off and back on again, then try turning the options off again.

      • What age/location/profession did you put?

        • Age: 24
          Location: 6025
          Profession: Computer Engineer (Software)

    • +1

I'm still at $16.99/mo with all options removed and minimum cover amount on Life insurance and TDP.

I'm 22. How do you get it at 8.75/mo? Haha. I also put a programmer role as my occupation.

      • Did you go through the part where it asks you all about your life, after the quote part? Just continue through the process. Im 32 and got it down to $11.

        • Oh, no I haven't. Probably should have. I'll do it and report back!

Edit: Did it and said no to most questions. Went down from $16.99 to $15.87.

        • @Zaenille: now expand options and remove illness cover

        • +1

          @chriise:

Yeah I forgot to edit again. But I got it down to around $9/month after I did that. :D

    • Got it for $14 doing this

  • What's the minimum policy duration? I couldn't find that anywhere?

    • 1 Policyholders will earn 10,000 Qantas Points for purchasing one Qantas Assure Life Insurance and 30,000 for purchasing two or more. Qantas Points will be credited after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. Not available to existing Qantas Assure Life Protect policyholders.

      • +1

I read that, but that's just when the points will be credited (and it's a pretty standard thing for Qantas to say for their promotions). So I have no reason to doubt you'll get the points after 60 days, I'm just worried that TAL may not want to let you go after 60 days. How do you end the insurance? Can that be done online or do you have to ring and be put on hold for > 60 mins (Foxtel-style)?

        • +1

In my experience any insurance policy can be cancelled by contacting the provider in writing - It's a heavily regulated industry.

Then again I haven't read the T&Cs for this deal, so there may be a catch

        • +6

          @railspider: I think I found it in the QAssure_Life_Insurance_Policy_Booklet:

          How to make changes
Please give us at least seven days’ notice before your
next premium due date for either:
          • altering any of your direct debit or financial institution
          details, or
          • stopping or suspending any debits, or cancelling the
Agreement completely. If you do any of these, you will
need to make alternative arrangements for future
          premiums to continue your Policy.
If you want to change or cancel this agreement, or
dispute a debit, please contact our Customer Service
Centre on 13 49 60. We will always respond to your
query or dispute in the first instance.

      • +9

So realistically you'd end up paying for 3 months of cover.

Still good value if you want the points and can deal with the hassle of cancelling the policy.

        • Can you give notice to cancel on the 53rd day so that you get the points credited on the 60th day? You do run the risk of not getting the points though.

        • +2

@iSamurai: You could send them a letter and specify which date you want the policy cancelled on, but TBH it's such a fine line between 60 days and getting billed that 3rd month I'd just bite the bullet and pay it

        • @railspider:

March is 31 days though, so we technically have 1 day more to cancel?

  • +1

What happens if you lie in the application? I've no need to use it so if the consequence is they deny any claims then that isn't a big deal.

    • -2

They will never no. Could even make a policy for a person who doesn't exist but same last name. Transfer points. Easy

      • Yeah keen to know too. think if I should be a 20 year old desk clerk. Points and run?

    • +14

Strictly speaking, from a legal standpoint the misrepresentation constitutes fraud, regardless if you make a claim.

Practically speaking, given you won't be making any claims, they don't have the time/resources to: 1) verify and check misrepresentations for policy holders who don't make claims; and, 2) take these customers to court if somehow they do work out point 1. Sauce: ima lawyer.

What may likely happen is that they investigate closely all signups from the time this deal was posted, particularly those where the click through url was from ozbargain and all the options were set to no/low and under the guise of 'calling to discuss your application' ask for some supporting documentation eg licence to show you are the 20 year old you claim to be, employment confirmation etc. This last para is all speculation of course and you may just walk away with cheap points :)

  • +2

Can't get my quote under $70 per month, suspect it's age related..

    • +4

You kidding? age related ? who would have thought life insurance premiums would increase with age?

yes of course :-) the quotes provided above are meaningless if the person is not stating their age.

      • -1

Make sure to remove Income Protection Insurance, it defaulted to yes on mine. bumped it to over $57 per month. Removing it and just sticking to life and TPD getting me <$20. Thinking about lying about age to see if it makes a diff.

        • Yes i removed Income Protection insurance. If you can get $20 thats means you are very young. Make yourself older and see what happens. Life insurace is ALWAYS relative to age and increases with age (to keep the same payout)

        • @theblake: I'm 36.

    • You have to click "View options" under each policy and exclude those too. Life Insurance + TPD is the cheapest combo for me.

  • +3

anyone else get the "someone's going to need to call you to discuss your application?" message?

    • +1

Yep - non Aussie Citizen here, I imagine that'd be why for me.

    • Looking at your responses, you'll need to provide some extra details so please expect a call from us in the near future.

    • Same here. If you say you're a citizen/resident, would they check?

  • +3

i did this last week - be mindful the qantas points are given on day 61 so likely you'l have to pay 3 months - but still super cheap for 30k points

  • Killer deal for $65 all up.

You can book a reward flight to areas up to Tokyo for 35k points. Places like Singapore & Bali are 23000 points (All one way + taxes).

  • +12

i love how "30KQFF" has been written, as a QFF was a SI unit.
And how would you say it? A "kiloqueef"?

  • +3

Got mine down to under $8 a month.

Under 30 and removed illness and (adventure) sports cover. Also got 10% discount for healthy BMI.

Edit: Just got message saying they'll be in touch :(

    • +4

Ah, healthy BMI discount is another nice trick! Good find.

Will have to lay off the 1/2 price Dr Oetker pizza's - or slightly fudge my height/weight numbers.

    • How did you add your BMI? I have mine at $15 per month which is worth it.
But I wouldn't be on OB if I didn't want to still get it down further.

  • 51yo office worker no smoker
    $100k life, $100k TPD = $84pm (about $42 for each)

suspect OP is under 21 LOL

so $168 to earn 30,000 points, assuming I remember to cancel.

I can get $200k life insurance for $40pm, thats a lower premium than $100k with qantas at $42pm

  • +4

    Ozbargained

  • got mine to $9.52

  • +2

There are 5 steps for the application. On Step 4 when the screen shows 4/5,
it has two options buttons, click to expend it, uncheck the accident and illness, just keep the sport options.

This bring down my quote to around $1 per month.

    • Did you purchase your cover?

      • +2

I did, and the top still show 30k bonus.

        • +1

You legend! Gonna try that now. For 30k you can't go wrong

Yeah it works on the 4/5 screen. Thanks for the advice mate.

    • +3

Can't select Sport cover without Accident, you'll get an error or the policy refused :(

      • +1

You are right, I got it wrong. $8 per month for accident cover only is the best price so far.

        • Don't you need to select 2 policies though for the full 30K? Which two did you select? Accident and total disability?

    • When I did it it still said you need one of the base covers in order to choose the sport cover. The box to purchase was greyed out unless you chose one of the base covers.

    • It would let me uncheck accidnt and illness (and keep the $0.45 sports) but it won't adjust the price below $8.

    • You can answer some (not all) of these at the start by clicking "View Options" at the bottom of Life Insurance on the second page as well.

  • +2

So wrong…. but equally so right

  • Site down?

  • My TPD comes up as $0 and it's still showing 30K points. Don't know how I did it, I kept toggling things on and off in the options for TPD until it broke?

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/32825/47132/assure.jpg

Edit: Interestingly, I can now turn off Life Insurance cover and purchase TPD for $0 to get 10K points.

    • I had that too but once you get to the final stage you will only get 10k points cos you only purchased one..

      • Wonder if it will allow me to buy TPD for $0 because I turn off the life insurance toggle and it lets me proceed.

  • I'm a QFF points chaser, thanks for this :D

    • Gotta catch em all!!!

Waiting for the season finale Harvey!
