  • Yes! No way paying $7 for it..

  • Not deal for me : US$ 5.23 :(

    • Same issue for me at first. Go to Google wallet and change address in account info to Australia. It would currently be set to USA

  • +7

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU i just bought it for $7.20 yesterday…
    cannot get a refund.

    • You can if you bought it only yesterday. Open the app in play store, you should see two buttons. OPEN and Refund

      • -4

This one said refund only if within 2 hours of install…it is only $0.20 so maybe $7 will allow longer??

        • As soon as I saw this post, I tried to get a refund on my purchase.
I saw the refund option as soon as I purchased it, but it was no longer there.
my options were to open or un-install instead of open/refund.

It took me over a year of Google Surveys to make that $7..

        • +1

@Mancandy: don't sweat it dude. Go offer to cut some little old lady's grass for her. You'll make your $7 back in 30 minutes…

        • @Mancandy: Good luck on the refund, thanks for the reminder about Google Rewards, made me realise I hadn't gotten any since I factory reset a while ago!

    • +12

As per Google's refund policy you can request a refund within 48 hours.
The turn around is usually very quick for a response (within the hour). I've never not been refunded.
If however 48 hours is up, you can claim an "unauthorized charge refund". Just mention that you accidentally made the purchase, or child did so. Again, questions are never asked from my experience.

      • Thanks PROr, something I didn't know.

And thanks to the omnipresent neg police for remorselessly punishing the lazy :-P

      • +3

        You legend!!
I requested a refund, I got an email response within 15mins stating that my refund was approved.
The app disappeared from my phone and I just bought it again for $0.20!

        • But it is google, so I guess in future they'll see the history, and realise what you did :-P

  • +17

been using this app for so long, finally can get pro

  • i heard there is some custom codec to play certain format but not sure if still get updated.
    check xdaforum

    • +1

Yes i think for ac3 and data codecs due to copyright.

      Thanks OP. Bought it.

      • +2

ac3 is now free of patents, so it should be back in the app.

        • That's good to know. I didn't know that.

        • thanks i forgot to use the custom from like last year.

        • I hope you're right. This has been bugging me lately, most of the things I watch have AC3 audio so I've had to resort to MPC which is pretty damn good in its own right, though I still prefer MX Player Pro.

I bought this for ~$7 years ago, I think 1 of only 2 apps I've ever happily paid full price for. Well $7 of my google survey money anyway, didn't cost me a cent :)

        • @Click_It:

Just had a look at my old (so no intrusive ads) non-pro version, which pops up "AC-3 supported in v1.8.17, GET IT now and play all audio formats with no effort".

So provided you have that version, it should be OK.

        • @sane:

Awesome thank you, I'll give it a test run tonight .

    • +1

Just install the codec from Play Store. Goes by the name of e.g. "Mx Player Neon" etc.

      • +2

yes. and last update january so probably we dont need it anymore

    • DTS not AC3.

  • Thanks OP :)

  • +4

Is this better than VLC which is always free?
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.v…

    • +20

Yes it is better than VLC on Android.

      • How is it better?

        • +18

VLC is not as stable. Their code needs a bit of work, and feature-wise MX player has VLC beat.

        • Thanks OP!
Happily using this app for years… Couldn't pass the Pro at this price
Gestures for volume, brightness and fwd/rwd alone gets me going back to MX every time. Had to download AC3 codecs in the past but that was a minor hassle.

        • +3

          @scrimshaw:
MX player definitely struggles with some new mkv codecs that VLC can handle though

        • @scrimshaw: hmmm well it's $0.20, so I guess it wouldn't hurt much to try it out. I'll see if I have better experience using MX. Thanks.

        • +3

@qube: Yeah, I've never found a torren… er, video, that doesn't play fine in VLC. It has the same hidden on-screen controls people are mentioning here (volume, brightness, fwd/rwd). Also something people may not be aware of, if you have VLC installed on a computer for example, playing on the computer screen, on TV… You can set up VLC installed on your phone, to remote-control all that stuff from the computer.

Not sure why scrolling back/forward in subtitles is desirable… Maybe they're saying you move fwd/rwd through subtitles while the video continues to play. If so, not sure if VLC does that or not - but I'd rather have both in sync by just pressing the rwd button.

        • @eqv: There's a fully-featured free version of MX Player, isn't there?

      • -2

Not much people use VLC any more

        • +2

How do you get your statistics?

        • +3

@eqv: 40% of statistics is made up on the spot by people, 60% of people know that…

        • +3

"Not much people" tells me all I need to know about the accuracy of your statistics

        • @ProjectZero: ah silly me, of course, it all make sense now!

        • +1

          @ProjectZero:
Kent Brockman: Mr. Simpson, how do you respond to the charges that petty vandalism such as graffiti is down eighty percent, while heavy sack beatings are up a shocking nine hundred percent?
Homer Simpson: Aw, you can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Forty percent of all people know that.
Kent Brockman: I see. Well, what do you say to the accusation that your group has been causing more crimes than it's been preventing?
Homer Simpson: Oh, Kent, I'd be lying if I said my men weren't committing crimes.
          Kent Brockman: [pause] Well, touché.

        • +1

@mmd: Welp, I misquoted but you know what I mean =P

        • @mmd:

Doesn't Homer say "Fourfteen," or some number itself also made up?

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ELuUzct3A

Ok, it sounds like "fourf-tee," upon closer inspection.

    • +4

I had a file which MX Player wouldn't play. Installed VLC, and it could play it fine.
Your mileage may vary, but for me VLC gets the job done.

    • +7

MX is better IMO. I tried to use VLC on Android a few times when the ads on MX started to get out of control, but VLC always seems to have stability issues with the occasional crash.

If you have better luck with VLC then use that instead, otherwise 20 cents is not much for what is arguably the best media player for android (without the ads).

    • +5

I find they both sometimes play things that the other can't play, so it's good to have both.

    • +1

      This is a good deal.

Kodi (XBMC) for Android is free and also worth a look.

    • -4

Yes. VLC is a terrible player on every platform.

      • Yeah I hate the UI but it does indeed get the job done most of the time.

Mx player on my android tv takes like a minute to load subtitles while vlc takes 5 secs for example.

Mx player just looks more clearer on my phone and alot louder with the volume booster.
Man why are there no music players that sounds as good as mx as well…

  • Seems to be only for local playback - can it stream from a network source or DLNA?

    • +3

you can, just open the file from a file browser like solid explorer

    • Yep, i play video from my NAS frequently with it

      • same here. open root explorer, navigate to my synology, then tap the movie file, select play always with mx player. done

        • Same here but with ES Explorer

    • BS Player works over network (playing files off NAS etc) but free version has ads.

Otherwise, use a file explorer as per comments above.

  • +2

Would anyone know if this offers change of speed like VLC player? I like to watch my shows in at least x1.5 speed. Thanks.

    • +1

      It can apparently

    • +2

For the video formats I tried it could, but I had to set it to the Software (SW) decoder before the speed would change.
It let me change the speed from 25% to 400% and the audio pitch seemed ok.

  • +8

I just got $0.5 free from google rewards, so why not :P

  • Apart from ad removal any other benefits?

    • +4

Well the adds in the non pro version have been getting worse and worse lately, so it is worth it for that alone.

      • +3

        Fair en…
        .
        .
        .
        .
        Loading ads.
        .
        .
        .
        .
        ough

      • +2

I am using nonroot firewal - just block free version from accessing internet and you have Pro :)

        No ads, nothing.

        • Which app?
          Adaway/adblock plus/…?

        • @0p:

          https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.greyshirts…

NoRoot Firewall - it's a firewall and works just fine. Creates local VPN to be able to filter traffic.

        • Thanks.
But I just checked but this app seems too unsafe for me… Would you trust a random app to "see" all your data? Android is not like windows.
There are too many work arounds to a firewall block to actually be feasible on Android…

          Thanks though.
          :)

        • @0p:

Which permissions are you referring too?

        • Not any in particular. I'm just referring to the fact that it's a firewall. Everything you do online goes through Thier servers before it comes to you…

  • Can this play folders without mixing it up by artist, genre, album etc?

    • +2

This is for videos. It doesn't have Mp3 library sorting abilities.

Buy PowerAmp if you want audio playback by folders.

there are also free audio players that playback by folder… lots if you search "folder player"
      https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.zorillasoft…

      • Thanks

        • There is a use with audio option in the settings.
          Or
Wait till Poweramp goes on sale…

    • +1

you complain for your free 20c from google rewards????

      • LoL
Indirectly Google will make back the $2 from you once you give them relevant info for them to serve you with your info…
Ask yourself is $2 worth your soul?

        • Google already know every thing about you but still asking stupid question like,
have you been to coles? woolies? your age? stupid question like that.

Then again, thanks to these stupid question, now you can find out what is the least busiest time to go to coles or woolies.

Even without google rewards, have you ever wonder how google map knows roads are busy?
by people connected to the internet while driving.

        • +1

Neither buisiest time nor google maps are influenced by google rewards(or so i think.)

          • Buisiest time is shown based on user input(next time you see this during anytime it says "less bustier than usual.) Then stu*id people correct google by saying if its bust or not.

          • As for google maps, if you have an android and are using google maps then you have no chice but sharch location… Google wouldn't let you juice gps otherwise!

    • I guess you just have to comment regardless of the deal hey?
Look at the past price of this app it was ~$7 so now should be a steal at this price.
In fact this is the first app I don't even mind paying actual money for…

  • What do you use as decoder in MX? HW or SW?

    • +1

      either works.

H/W will lead to glitches and artifacting or audio-desync if your hardware is not powerful enough to decode the format, or if your H/W doesn't support that specific format, you will only hear but not see anything (a green screen). If that occurs you use S/W.

If you have a fast processor, you can use S/W. It might mean more battery usage, as it's a slower less efficient method than H/W decode but it is more flexible (more compatible).

    • For my S8, HW+ works well.

    • You may need to add the Neon plugin from Play store as well.

      • Do you even know what a codec is?

    • HW+ ALL THE WAY…

It's the one with volume enhancement.
I.E. volume can go to 200%

  • +2

Thanks! Without a doubt the best video player on Android. Been waiting for it to go on sale.

  • Even cheaper for me:

    GBP0.10
    Includes VAT of GBP0.02
    MX Player Pro

I have no idea why the Playstore always converts to GBP, but it's been doing it since day 1… PayPal acc is A$, address is Aus.

I've already got the Pro APK, but I think it's worth 10p

    • you pay 10c for it? I bought it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE, using my google rewards :)

      • +1

No you worked (completed a questionnaire) for some Playstore credit, and probably had the app running in the background depleting your battery waiting for a survey for MONTHS!
My guess; your work covered the cost of charging your phone. ;P

        • haha as we speaking it charging at work ;)

        • @boomramada: touche

  • +2

Great player, I tried all the popular ones like BS Player and ended up paying for this a few months ago. No regrets.

Uses very little battery, has brightness and volume control built into the playing screen; you just need to slide your finger up and down the screen on the left or right side. Great subtitle support, you can slide subtitles back and forth to skip scenes.

Needed to get the AC3/DTS codec as a few videos had no sound but that wasn't difficult.

Honestly, get this if you watch videos on your tablet or phone outside of the YouTube app.

  • Totally off topic, I have this app already for my android devices.

For iOS I bought Infuse after the free trial for $19.99. Quite expensive but it constantly blows me away…. the ability to download a video over the network to local storage is just about the best thing ever. I know it's quite possible on android too but man! It's the seamless way it lets you do it! It keeps track of which shows you watched and everything. 10/10

    • +2

This is just like the first time Apple users realise you can get porn on Safari.

    • Every time that I think that I can't think less of iOS, I see something like this.

  • I see it as $0.20 but when I try to buy it, it comes to USD $5.99. Any idea why?

  • $0.20 why not as I use the free version.

    • +1

It uses up data bandwidth and extra battery power to serve those ads to you. Not to mention they are intrusive.

      • I think JB1 meant

$0.20? … Why not? … I use the free version after all and am happy to give some support
