Brief overview on how the app works? Is it only a limited number of stores offering it?

    • +2

      • +3

This sort of deal makes me a customer again…

        • +1

Until the app crashes 3 time[s] during the checkout process ;)

  • can you ever swap the drink for something else?

    • +3

The golden meal is free medium fries and soft drink so you can't change for coffee, OJ etc.

Edit: for full price meal, you can choose other drinks and pay for the upgrade.

      • ah right, thanks!

    • Dammit, I'm in that neck of the woods for lunch today, was considering being naughty and having a Big Mac…you work at PHQ?

  • +2

not available on my app, got it set to Toowong brisbane

    • Thanks, gonna try this weekend. nice to see an ozbargain neighbour :)

  • I used to eat Maccas a lot, I mean a lot. For the convenience and taste without thinking much. Now I don't touch it.

I realised how poisonous and damaging chemicals, salts, and bad fats are.

Ever really smelled the Big Mac sauce?

Instead of feeling lethargic I now feel great and have lost a lot of weight and blood pressure is much lower.
This was over a short time frame of a few months.

    Hope this helps someone.

Pretty sure everyone who eats Mcdonalds is under no illusion that its either healthy nor nutritious.

But thanks for your wonderful insight.

      • +3

Yes but people keep lining up to injure themselves like drinking and driving, smoking etc.

Something in human nature disregards the obvious.

        • +7

It's probably more that everything in life involves trade offs. It's very rare for something to have all benefits and no costs in a cost-benefit analysis.

        • @jacross:
I don't know… sex with Kangal seemed to have all benefits and no downsides ; )

          @Kangal:

haha I looked up Kangal and got very confused and horrified for a second, before I came back and reread your username.

Holy shit dude. Are you serious? Here I was thinking it was a complete and nutritious meal. I am so glad you have unveiled the truth on the matter. I will refrain from maccas henceforth and be an ambassador for this message.

      THE PEOPLE MUST KNOW!

I didn't neg but No need for this. I think he is genuinely trying to help others with his own experience.

        • +4

Come on, it was a joke. For the record (and trying to be neutral) little anecdotes like tervor99's can be the sobering reminder some people need not to give in to temptation.

        • +3

Munki's humour has probably produced more utility than trevor99's mix of 'slightly interesting anecdote, clichéd response, and very problematic misinformation (posoinous salts fats and chemicals)'.

    • +1

There's always one guy that has to do this…

    • +4

Interesting. I eat McDonald's once or twice a week, am extremely active, and have good health markers and good subjective quality of life.

I'd say there's definitely a point where if you are eating there 'a lot, I mean a lot' you're going to have a bad time of it. Especially if someone combines that with a sedentary lifestyle.

For the record (as a university trained nutrition science graduate)salt and 'bad fats' (I assume saturated fat) are both 100% essential for health. Most people simply consume way too much. Everything in every single food and every thing that exists in the universe is a chemical or made up of chemicals.

    • +1

everything is harmful if you consume 'a lot, I mean a lot'.

try drink 30 liters of water daily and keep going for a month, see what happens then.

how does it work? i don't have data on my phone, so can you order at home and then pick up in store?

and can you order multiples of the deal?

    • You would probably need to use the McDonald's free wifi because the order can only be placed if you're in or near enough to a store.
      Also requires location services.

      • You would probably need to use the McDonald's free wifi

Really? I've never found one that works.

    • +1

use a location spoofer on android

  • +3

The mymaccas Android app is not suitable for us tinfoil-hat-wearing people -
    - asks repeatedly for GPS location info
    - requires registration
    - registration asks for mobile phone number
    - you have to consent to being spammed in order to register

    • +2

      But discounts…

      • +1

discounts?! … aussie assist, speedy claims, rating one for life, buy aussie benefits

  • +1

    Any idea when this expire?

  • +4

Lunch today, plus a $3 deal

    • what's the $3 deal?

      • +2

        3 for $3

      • +1

        Cheeseburger, small fries, small drink

        • Swap the chips for a salad and the drink for a 600ml water and you've got a "guilt free" next meal

    • +1

I miss the lunch club cards they used to have …..small Mac meal any lunchtime and they used to last 12 mths ……made planning lunches easy.

Now apps so you can get spammed rather than frequent specials.

    • +3

But for $2 extra you can get another big mac meal, YOLO.

  • Thanks it worked

  • +1

so what's the process, I place an order on the app, and within X minutes have to show up at the restaurant to pickup? Is there a reference number I use to claim the meal?

    • +1

You confirm the order, once you're in the store, you select "I'm here", select eat in or take away. The order is sent to the store and a reference number will appear on your screen.

  • Also can confirm golden meal availability for big mac in the app. McD wyndham waters - Williams Landing

  • You can choose a medium soda water.

  • +2

Better stay away from Maccas for now, as the Monopoly game is coming. I can imagine my wife will get lots of meals from there soon…

  • +4

and salad instead of chips for those wanting some goodness to even out the guilt.

    • +3

salad with extra big mac sauce

  • My local doesn't have it either. :(

  • Works for Chatswood, NSW

  • This would be great if only the Box Hill Maccas' WiFi was reliable, I ain't payin' for 'dem phone internets for this.

Also don't forget to do the online survey for a free 10pk of McBites with any order, no receipt or anything required, will take a day or two to email the voucher though, but you can reuse the shit out of it.

    • you mean the one in the shopping centre right? I used to go there alot when i was catching public transport, i also had trouble with their wifi. At one point their wifi was turned off totally, i asked the manager about it who told me the centre management didn't want them using it because it encouraged people to sit in Maccas instead of going to their shops. Who knows if that was a lamo excuse or true shrug

Also doesn't help that its a heavily populated area so suffers signal congestion plus a heap of people trying to connect to one weak signal.

  • +3

App is about 60MB just headsup for those with not much storage space on their mobile

    • by the time i've installed it is taking up 98mb now, a bit big really seeing as KFC & HJ apps are under 50mb too

  • So you can't pick up in the drive thru?

    • +1

      Currently no.

      • +2

to me that makes it a bit useless really, i mean actually expecting us to get our lazy butts out of the car?! lol

  • Doesnt work in Mt Colah

  • Is this medium or big size? I'm confuse with the title.

    • +2

Medium. It's the first word in the title.

      • +1

…but the Mac is still Big, no?

        • not really, they've shrunk quite alot, 20 years ago they used to be huge, a guy in America even took photos to prove it

        • @iluvpizza:
And maccas will tell you the patty is the same as they use the same equipment as 20 years ago but they fail to tell you how much water or shrinkage the burger patties have increased

  • Can you pick up in drive thru?

    • I would like to know this too. Would make a great pre-uni meal.

    • Currently no.

    • Can you pick up by walking in the drive thru?
      No.

      • their drive thrus now have signs saying they don't allow people to walk thru them for health & safety reasons. They used to allow it but im guessing some drunk driver ran over a customer walking thru the pickup who then sued Maccas, not really funny but LOL

  • Its a badly written app, had to delete it and reinstall it.

And there is no way, I am putting in my credit card details till they get it right.

I think I will skip this offer, shame as it is a good offer.

    • why dont you walk to the store and ask for it.

    • They historically suck at apps.
This one is at least better than last years Monopoly effort.

    • at least the KFC app gives us a choice, i don't think they would be stupid enough to make it too insecure though, would get them sued

  • No option for Aldinga, SA. :(

    • It's working here now.

  • +2

I had a play with the app and you can customise the big mac. If you subtract the 2 beef patties you save $2.40.
You can also add extra salt & pepper, pickles and regular onions for free.

So essentially a meatless Big Mac with extra pickles and onions + medium drink + medium fries for $2.60.

I haven't actually tried ordering it but it does look like it should work. anyone want to try for science?

    • +5

Why would anyone order a Big Mac with no meat?

      • My ex girlfriend who was vegetarian (trying to dip into veganism) used to order a large cheeseburger meal with no cheese or meat, so essentially - bread, onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard.

I've grabbed dinner with a few others who have done the same too.

Makes no sense, but it happens.

        • +1

I think if I was a vegetarian I would avoid the likes of McDonalds altogether.

        • @gokhanh: you would think that but you would be surprised at the lack of vegetarian and most importantly cheap options around nsw

        • @AlienC: HJ veggie burger is the go

        • @iluvpizza: too right

    • +5

You can also sub the 2 beef patties for a mc chicken (Only 4.40). Even though I only request 1 patty, I got 2 :D

      • Underrated.

  • Just used it at sydney Myer food court. The app is quite a pain because you need to register for account and punch in your card details into the app. Afterwards food came out in less than 1 min

  • How do you guys find these hidden specials?

They should really advertise the specials in a separate section within the app like KFC does.

  • I remember when you rattled off the ingredients list in IIRC, 8 seconds, you got your Big Mac free.

  • Yea worked but u gotta be super close to maccas

  • Just ordered. As above you need to create an account and be pretty close (if not already there). Pretty quick service though and order was available shortly thereafter.

  • -1

Does the discount apply for multiple meals ordered?

    • Yep seems ok, just downloaded and local bondi junction maccas had golden meal
