I put my i5 8gb on interest freeeeeeeeee

  • Thanks. I've been waiting for another chance. JB haven't had any in stock.

  • Any way to get free shipping? Coming up as $7.95 for me. Cashrewards free shipping is only for harveynormanbusiness.com.au?

  • Does it come with the keyboard and pen?

    • just the pen.

  • i really want a SF, but the pro 4 is almost 2 years old, and new one doesn't have USB-C (future proof) is really a bummer for me, i know that probably i am not even going to use the USB-c but it is just nice to have it there. And the minor battery improvement just cant justify that huge price gap for me….

yet Samsung Galaxy book isnt even available here yet…

So you want a convertible with an interface you probably won't use.

1.5k is huge amount of money for me, so i wish at least it has lastest tech, even tho i dont know what i am going to do with that port yet. xD

          Ha, that's weird.

    • Wait. I have a SP3 and have no reason to upgrade until USB-C comes along so I could plug in an external GPU.

I got mine from an OZB listing: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/259197

It's been one of the greatest bargains I got on this site. They were brand spanking new and not really refurbished in the end.

The SP5 will have USB-C. Theres already a cheaper beastier SP competitor on the market that already has it. The Eve V.

      • thanks for all the good info !!!!

        • No worries. I was editing it just as you replied to contain this:

As great of a device they are, the single USB3 and mDP port is very anaemic. I use mine as a laptop replacement and I don't like having to take around a powered USB3 hub with me. Non powered USB3 hubs don't work with the SP3 (real bummer) but this may have changed with the SP4, I haven't been able to find if this is the case yet. If you intend to use a Surface Pro as a tablet rather than a PC then USB-C is icing on the cake rather than something it actually needs going forward.

I also don't particularly like the Surface line charger. It's a weird connector and I don't like how unnecessarily propriety it is. USB-C charging is a much better concept.

          @c0balt:

right now, I am all over the EVE V, everything about it is exactly what i want. damn.

There is no SP5, and the 5th generation Surface Pro (they dropped the numbers) has already been released.

      • Technically while you can get USB graphics cards for previous versions of USB (a GPU in themselves) I believe you are thinking of Thunderbolt 3 which uses the same type-C connector the as USB 3.1.

Type-C will only carry PCI-e for desktop gfx card if it is Thunderbolt 3 .. about the only fixed requirement of my next lappy 😉

For those keen with an older laptop to butcher you may be able to remove the PCI-e WIFI and wire in 1 to 2 lanes to a full size PCI-e x16 for around $60

      • They've ditched the numbers on Surface Pros, and they've already released a model after the SP4.. Its just called the "new surface pro". It has a longer battery life due to kaby lake and a few minor tweaks.. no USB-C

        • +1

          past tense should be finded

    • Worth the extra here for a lot of people - no waiting and (at least) 2 year Aus warranty (compared with 1 for Kogan).

    • Is the Dick Smith eBay deal eligible for the TRS refund?

      • +1

Shouldn't be any GST on the Dick Smith deal, so there is nothing to refund.

      • no

I did do it when buying SP4 last year at HN Store in Perth. It works.

  • Any good deals on ebay (with the ebay codes) for Surface Pro accessories to go with this HN deal?

The SP4 Keyboard is a must have if you want full potential out of this machine.

So stoked with this, ended up with the i5 256 and type cover for $1452, minus a $135 gift voucher that I got from last week's HN deal. Yipeeee. Thanks for the heads up OP.

  • Very tempted. After a laptop for work/study/home purposes and trying to figure out what to get before the new financial yuear. I'd use it for the standard office suite, web applications and media. I'd also be keen to spin up some vm's for lab's at home. As I catch the train everyday, the portability of the surface appeals greatly and am just wondering if the i5 with 8gb and 256gb ssd should suffice? Anyone use theirs for similar purposes?

I think it would be right as I don't use graphically intensive programs or edit videos/photos etc, but wanted to see if anyone else had advice.

  • Anyone got their Surface Pro already?

Ordered i5 256G on Monday, selected click & collect from Melbourne QV, but was put on backorder since they don't have any stock, been told it's gonna take 1-2 weeks. Hasn't got any further update since then.
