Have PS4 Pro and XB1S (and PC), I hardly play XB1S, mostly play PS4 Pro or PC. Most XB1 games have PC equivalent.

I know XB1X is more powerful than PS4 Pro, but for some reason, not that interested (unless there is a bargain deal).

    • +5

      I am kinda the opposite.
Have had Playstations since the original, the xbox x has my interest though and maybe the next console istead of the PS Pro.

      • +1

I have them all. My PC is for multi-platform titles, PS4 Pro is for Naughty Dog/Santa Monica Studios/Guerrilla Games, Switch is for Mario/Zelda games and XB1S is a 4K Bluray player.

        • +2

^ This, UHD BR is probably a sizable chunk of XBox One S sales.

        • @unique452: Would be great if they added Dolby Vision in an update but I won't hold my breath.

    • +1

Coming from someone who has played Xbox/Playstation/PC for the last 16 or so years, here is what I recommend (money willing, in order of priority) pick bases on game interests.

1: Mid-high end PC. Nearly everyone will spend 500-700 on a regular PC, might as well put that towards a gaming PC. Since you already have a PC, play your muliplat games on there (unless friends are on console). A PC can play all games, no need to rely on backcompat. What about a switch to play that Zelda game? Emulator my friend, 4k 60fps. oh…and mods.

2: Standard Xbox/Ps4: This is to see which you prefer. Also to sample the exclusive games. Most PS4 exclusives are third person cinematic action games as well as my favorites ratchet and clank, and crash bandicoot ( I love those games). Xbox has Halo (which sucks now) Gears 4 (which is good) and Forza…which is getting repetitive (they arent innovating, why not allow us to make our own GT cars??) and way too expensive with DLC. IMO, xbox has the better multimedia/online system, exclusives are up to taste (Ps4 higher in number), but as a PC gamer Xbox has more unique games (there are many games similar to or better than the sony exclusives on steam imo) but less of them. Halo 5 was meant to be a console seller but flopped. Gears and forza cant carry xbox on their own, however with the "play anywhere" makes it perfect for family sharing (which is what I do, I play on PC, and share my game and gold with my brothers who play on same digital copy on console, we then play horder together in gears 4).

3: From the above, you can decide if it is worth "upgrading" your console, or sticking to pc. If you were to chose between PS4 Pro and Xbox one X. IMO? Xbox one X is not worth it at the moment. The Pro is because there are a lot of exclusives enhanced by it. For Xbox, there is no point as the exclusives are few in number and wont be worth the $600 investment on a single console as opposed to a PC upgrade which will benefit all your games.

Apologies for the very long post, but wanted to ensure it was detailed so it can benefit as many people as possible who are scratching their head.

        Your advice just plain sucks.

        1. Emulators for recent consoles are non-existent, or not very capable. Good luck getting a Wii U emulator never mind the Switch, but by all means give the scammers your email address and payment details. That won't end badly at all will it.
          https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/5z4si0/beware_of…

        2. Buy a standard just to find out which one you like?!? Why not work it out by having a play at a mates house, looking at some Youtube videos etc. If you're after a higher end console, buying the standard then upgrading to what you like is a waste of money. Just do your research, pick one and buy the damned thing if you're after a high end one. If you're not interested in the exclusives either console will do.

Better advice would be to get a PC if you have a lot of money and care about that last 10% of detail. Or you're into serious simulation. Or you have other uses for a high end PC than playing games.

Personally I just wish I still had time for gaming.

        • +1

Yeh…no. There literally is an emulator that runs breath of the wild at 4K 60, and that is the only game that most PC gamers would want to buy a console for. Further, do you seriously believe that garbage in the post you linked? Do real research next time.

Next, you do not need a lot of money for PC's, that is just you being ill informed. Did you even read my main point there?

Finally, I am advising to buy the standard versions as the "upgraded" (not "high end consoles" lol) are expensive. Internet research won't help as it's about experience, and most people are biased one way or the other so won't give you a proper rundown. I did not say to try it at a friends house as not everyone has friends that game, and if they did they may not have the games said person is interested in trying.

You only claim my advice "sucks" because you do not agree with it.

        • -2

          @Ahbal:

There literally is an emulator that runs breath of the wild at 4K 60,

…and I am literally Santa Claus. What would you like for Christmas? Just give me your street address, driver's license number, and credit card number and I'll bring it down your chimney.

          http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_Switch_…

          In big bright bold red:
"THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO EMULATORS FOR THE SWITCH, PLAYSTATION 4, OR XBOX ONE. ANY YOUTUBE VIDEOS CLAIMING TO OFFER THEM ARE SCAMS!"

          https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2017/04/theres-no-nintendo…

…and that's before we start talking about the legality of running an emulator which would need software you could only get from Nintendo.

The irony of you telling me to do research is breath-taking.

A high end graphics card for a PC is going to cost you more than a console and a middle of the road graphics card isn't going to give you enough advantage over console to justify the spend.

I'm not going to bother arguing with you. You basically suggested someone buy a PS4 and Xbox One to see if they wanted a Pro or a One X because people might not having gaming friends. Well even then you can literally walk into a target or Big W and try out the console if there's one near by.

You're right about one thing: I disagree with your advice.

          Using a wiki as a source? Typical…

          https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/duplicates/71ifwj/these_brea…

Look at all these mods…if the "emulators" were a scam, then how can we download and use these mods and play the game?

As they say though…you cant debate with stupid people.

        • @futaris:

Yep that members info is outdated…here is a link to a thread with more stuff: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/717c4w/mod_ad…

Comments speak of optimisation/4k/FPS, scroll a bit.

        • @futaris:

That is a Wii U emulator NOT a Switch emulator. And it can be a very finicky one to set up from everything I've read.

And Wii U consoles were going for $168 pre-owned from EB Games just a few days ago. Deal posted on OzB. If you can't afford that perhaps you should just game with whatever is handy.

        • @Ahbal:

          Using a wiki as a source? Typical…

Yet when someone else pointed to the gbatemp wiki (for an emulator for the wrong console no less) you upvoted. Don't be a hypocrite.

The onus is on you to point me to a verified download of an emulator. Even then it's not going to be legal EVEN if you own a Switch in Aus.

        • -1

          @syousef:

Their link was to a forum….not a wiki. It also has the download link…and changlelog link….

Second, have you seen BoTW run on a wii u? It runs terrible, not worth buying the console for that…better off emulating. Its not about "wrong console" its about running the game…without having to buy a console…as that's the only game worth emulating from nintendo atm.

But we are going off topic now with my one little point about emulation….you realised you could not debate anything else but that and decided to drag it on… Your original "points" have all been debunked.

        • -1

          @Ahbal:

You're going to start arguing with me about the difference between a forum and a wiki as if one is so much more credible than the other. (GBA has a wiki AND a forum FYI).

And now you're telling me an emulator runs BoTW better than the Wii U console? (Which one? The Wii U emulator you're recommending as a Wii U replacement, or the Switch emulator that doesn't exist?)

Then you accuse ME of dragging YOU off topic and being unable to put together an argument?????!?!?!? Really?!?!? Am I suppose to be taking this seriously??

        • -1

          @syousef:
In a forum when false information is published, it is edited by a moderator and marked as such, so yes more reliable than wikis. The link that was posted was an official download link and changelog, did you even click on it?

Secondly, yes it does run better. Again, click on the links we put up…All this escalated because you would not listen and click on the links provided showing this. All this has been about is you not following anything ive been saying and yes, dragging it out. All from one small remark about emulators in my advice post. If anything, you are taking this too seriously, clearly.

        • -1

          @Ahbal:

In a forum when false information is published, it is edited by a moderator and marked as such, so yes more reliable than wikis.

So no edits by moderators in a wiki? Like say WIKIPEDIA? What the hell are you on about!?

There is no inherent distinction between the ability for a moderator to edit on either platform.

The link that was posted was an official download link and changelog, did you even click on it?

Yes and I found a Wii U emulator NOT THE SWITCH EMULATOR YOU SAID EXISTED.

Secondly, yes it does run better. Again, click on the links we put up

cemu runs better than a wii u? Ok look I'm just going to let you live with that delusion. Emulation can have advantages but they will always ALWAYS be outweighed by disadvantages.

Go on. Have the last word. I'm absolutely done with this. Go ahead and keep embarassing yourself.

        • @syousef:

Nope never said anything about a switch emulator. All I said was you can play BoTW with an emulator on PC, never specified which one.

Next, not all wikis have moderators. Did you link wikipedia? No? Point invalid. Why? Because the info in your wiki was clearly outdated.

Yes, the can emulators run better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDva0u0nZhk vid here shows fix/patch for 60fps. Considering it is still in early stages, this is pretty good compared to other emulators ive seen.

You are making claims without anything to back them up, and you are getting worked up for no reason at all. How about you re-read everything and see how wrong you've been from the start?

        • -1

          @Ahbal:

I wasn't going to reply but this is just too much.

Nope never said anything about a switch emulator.

So I imagined this line that's right there above for all to see?

A PC can play all games, no need to rely on backcompat. What about a switch to play that Zelda game? Emulator my friend, 4k 60fps. oh…and mods.

"A PC can play all games,"

WHAT COMPLETE GARBAGE. There is no such thing as a machine that will play all games. Have you ever heard of a compatibility list? Have you looked at the compatibility list for Cemu?

And again YOU are accusing ME of making claims that I can't back up!?!?!?!?! Seriously WTF!!?? Show me your perfect emulator then.

          Like arguing with a pigeon.

        • @syousef:

Play all games was in regard to backward compatibility, as I wrote in that quote…should have added "last gen" games in hindsight but didnt think it would be dragged out and cherry picked to death by you.

Again, I never specified I switch emulator. Just that you can play the zelda game (which is on both switch and Wii U) on PC using an emulator. I did not say "switch emulator".

"Go on. Have the last word. I'm absolutely done with this. Go ahead and keep embarassing yourself"

          So much for that eh?

        • -1

          @Ahbal:

Play all games was in regard to backward compatibility

Backward compatibility is 100% huh? Try playing "Stubbs The Zombie" on a modern PC. I'll wait. That's just one recent example.

…should have added "last gen" games in hindsight but didnt think it would be dragged out and cherry picked to death by you.

I am not responsible for what you should and shouldn't have written. It is wrong either way.

Again, I never specified I switch emulator.

And Bill Clinton did not have sex with that woman.

"What about a switch to play that Zelda game? Emulator my friend"

Emphasis mine this time. What the hell is unclear about that? Why do I have to keep repeating that you did in fact state it. It's very clear that you said an emulator to replace Zelda on the Switch. The Wii U was not mentioned AT ALL. Let me guess. That's not what you meant to say. To save time, why don't you actually say what you meant to say so that I can actually respond to that.

Yes so much for me letting you have the last word. I didn't expect it to be so absurd.

        • @syousef:

If a game does not work on PC, most of the time there are guides showing you how to fix it. Games like the one you used are one of them. Found one in a minute of google searching. Either way, it is better than a console in that regard, as you don't have to wait for devs to give the sign off. For example, I still play classic NFS games (like Underground 2) on the pc, with mods and high res patches, as well as other classics like KoTor 1 and 2. Can your Xbox One and PS4 do that? No? That's my point. PCs have access to a wider an older game library…games as old as the classic dooM. Sure, a few minority of games may not work, however that does not discount the rest of them.

Again, the point of the emulator was emphasising you did not need a switch. Because you can use the Wii emulator to play it at better performance than the switch, I explained that already. Not that there is a specific switch emulator.

You still seem to be approaching this with an angry vibe.

        • -1

          @Ahbal:

There are games that are completely incompatible. Now you are being condescending and insinuating I am incapable of googling a compatibility patch. Then you accuse me of "an angry vibe". Gee I wonder why.

Didn't even read the last 2/3rds of your message. Not worth my time.

        • @syousef:
If it's not worth your time why are you still responding? Also, I did clearly state that some games may not work (at all). Again though, the few games that don't don't discount the fact you can still play many other older games. And yes, you are clearly incapable of googling a simple compatibility patch, something you should of done before saying "I would like to see you play this game on PC".

        • @Ahbal:

I am responding because you're being a condescending troll.

Stubbs the Zombie DOESN'T ****ING WORK. They took it off the Steam store for pity sake.

Btw I make my living programming so your crap about me not googling makes a fool of you.

Go play a game or something. Don't you have emulators that are better than the consoles they emulate or something? Quit trolling.

        • @syousef:

Still spending time here aye? Still responding angrily? Maybe then you should read the whole thing before accusing me of trolling and getting all worked up ;)

    • +6

Why bother posting here to start shit? what is the point..

    • Yeah, main reason for getting XB1S is for 4K Blu-ray support.

The biggest issue for me with XB1X is that it is going to compete with my PC (which has SSD and better graphics card). I have more PC games than XB1 + PS4 games combined.

I did buy XB1 exclusive games (ones only available on XB1, not available on PC), but there aren't that many and most of them are old games.

Some people feel that this is XB1X vs PS4 Pro. However, for me, it is XB1X vs PC.

  • Is that to be called the "Xbox One X" or the "Xbox One Ten"?

    • +3

      X
      Box
      One
      X

Pretty clever I must say, however I still prefer scorpio. Awesome console name…"Xbox Scorpio"…

      • XBonX

        • Natural progression from XBone.

          Xbox -> Xbox 360 -> Xbone -> Xbones -> Xbonx

  • -6

you can preorder the Xbox One X for $612.70 with free delivery. This is currently the cheapest price available.

    Sorry OP.

I failed to see any bargain / deal from your post apart from free delivery [ Postage is $7.95 @ HN by the way ] and promoting Cashrewards.

Are you absolutely 100% sure that the buyers will receive $36.30 cashback from CR?

This is Ozbargain after all, not Ozlottery.

    Regards

  • +3

Relying solely on cashrewards may not be the best idea. Their tracking & calculations seem unpredictable at times.

    • +3

They have a cashback guarantee you know? Clicking through CR will register a click on your account and they'll give you the cashback if it didn't go through for whatever reason.

  • +1

This is tempting, although I reckon (hoping) there will maybe be game bundles available closer to Xmas at a cheaper price point.

Also I haven't ever had an issue with cash rewards.

  • I just bought a XboxS from the recent deals, I don't have a 4k TV and won't be getting one for a while.

How much faster will the X be for load times I wonder? Maybe it will be smoother even at lower resolutions because of how many teraflops it has. Just thinking of reasons that I'd need to upgrade from the S.

    • Load times wouldn’t be anything to write home about, unless the storage controller has been upgraded to SATA III. I’d suggest that you sit this one out. It is bound to get cheaper around Xmas anyway. The One S is still a very capable console.

      • -2

Offering advice and you don't seem to know anything about the console. Keep up the good work.

      • +1

Haha I got negged. A quick search would show the Xbox 1X has SATA3 and an upgrade HDD which is this model: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682217…

Sorry for pointing out someone dispensing advice without knowing jack.

    • -2

Not worth the $ to go from a s to an X. I personally can't even see the reason to go from a standard to the X unless it halves in price, maybe if an s is insanely cheap like 150-200 I'll make a jump for 4k, the X just falls short in vàlue imo.

      • It really depends. As newer games come out utilising newer engines you'll start to see a larger gap.

I'm hoping the introduction of more powerful consoles in the same generation ends the whole console game library replacement routine. Firmware updates will keep the operating software in the game for as long as required and it also means developers don't need to constantly reinvest in whole new system API's.

So much of this makes sense rather than launching a new next-gen console. It's a great move by both Sony and Microsoft. Hopefully they continue the tech refreshes coming over time.

      • Double the price and 4 times as powerful. Seems pretty good in my book.

        • By the time they release games that use its potential it'll be 1.5 times the price.

        • @Slippery Fish: there are 130 games ready to go day 1 the XB1X is released.

  • +1

One consideration some people are over looking here is that although the One X is designed with 4k in mind, it will render graphics at 1080p better/faster. This means you won't drop frames anymore when there is a lot of action happening in-game.

This would be similar to upgrading to a better graphics card in a PC but keeping the same screen for now and running at the same resolution (eg 1080p).

There is a huge price difference here if you have a 4k screen it's a no brainer, if you don't, a One S is more than adequate.

However if you are like me and want to future proof, and/or take advantage of the improved handling of in game graphics now, spend the extra.

  • Very interested in the xboxox but will hold out till a price drop and special

    • Bwahahaha

  • -2

$649 for a warmed over revision of an almost four year old console? GLWTS Microsoft…

    • +5

Seems to be selling very well. Good luck with your next salty troll.

      • lol

  • To be fair..i highly doubt you will get cheaper as a pre order.

My Xbox One just died and I've been meaning to pre order this so good deal for me. As a bonus I had $100 Xbox credit from the g2g deal posted on ozbargain years ago I totally forgot about. Bonsa

  • Ps4 has the best exclusives but microsoft try harder

  • -2

Sorry I fail to see any deal here.

    • It's $612.70 with Cashrewards increased cashback? Did you forget to read the post? That's cheaper than the other retailers.

    • trouble is Cashrewards is not a given - I can see the hesitation
personally I wouldn't bank on CR - it's a nice bonus but it's too flakey to be dependable

      • +3

They have a cashback guarantee meaning that as long as you've clicked on the store through Cashrewards, you will get the cashback.

Knowing affiliate networks - adblock, AVs clearing cookies and clicking on OzBargain links without being signed in are the usual culprits.

  • Just a note OP, the MS payout for Cashrewards is based on the net price (excluding GST), so the cash back will be $33.04 ($590 x 5.6%). Therefore the total cost = $615.96.

  • -3

Major difference between microsoft and playstation is digital receipting.

With playstation I always get a receipt- with microsoft sometimes.

You wanna argue with Microsoft without a receipt - that's funny.

How do microsoft pay tax properly without giving receipts anyway? Curious

    • +1

you should contact Microsoft helpdesk because that's not right. When I digitally purchase a game I get emailed a receipt and its added to the purchase history tally in my Microsoft account too.

  • -1

But do you get a receipt for every digital code you input because I don't?

Purchasing from your account with money gives you a receipt, but not codes like with playstation - there is only direct purchase history with xbxox

indirect is treated differently. And what about games with gold? My playstation email is full of digital receipts - my microsft account isn't.

Look at those negs for confirmation of a factual difference.

You can enter codes on xbox, have them accepted, and the content later disappear. The only way to get anywhere with microsft is to keep the code cause you don't always get a receipt.

Microst are always in your account tinkering groove music fallout 4 are well known here and there are many others. Microsoft are indifferent to customer care, if a licence disappears by mistake you have to prove it.

    • +1

I have no idea what you are talking about. MS always email a record of your purchase. I have never noticed anything go missing and never noticed people talking about things like this on any forum I participate in.

  • +1

Anyone got a link to the actual deal? It isn't showing up for me on the Amex site

  • Did this offer expire?

    • It still seems to be active. There is also a cashrewards offer of up to 5% cashback on XB1X preorders: https://www.cashrewards.com.au/coupons/xbox-one-x-pre-orders…
This could bring the price down to $649-(590*0.05)CR-$100AMEX=$520.

      • It doesn't show up on my Amex account? I have an essentials card from them..

        • Not sure about that particular Amex or maybe the Amex offer limit has been met since I signed up for the offer.

Apologies for the 5% cashback, I was wrong, I've just checked my CR account and got only 1.4% cashback ($8). The CR link is confusing as it shows XB1X preorder and up to 5% cashback. Did not realise the offer was actually just about the XBX1 preorder while "up to 5%" refers to their generic Microsoft cashback which amounts to 1.4% for game consoles at the moment.
