  • Pretty good price. I note that MH140 departs about 10 pm and arrives about 3:20 am, so be prepared to be a bit short of sleep.

    • Its like 3 hour time difference, so you'll still get your 8 hours princess! :p

      • No, not like, exactly 3 during DST, 2 outside of DST. So by the time you get there it's 5:20 am by your body clock. Given that the first two hours of the flight they will give you a supper, you won't get to sleep unless you resolutely put on your sleep mask and plug your ears. So that means you get about 5 hours sleep max.

The express trains won't be running at 4 am, so you will have to take some other transport into the city or hang around until the first train.

However I wonder if this could be combined with a flight to Europe. For a cheap fare, I'd be willing to slum it on an airport bench for a few hours in transit.

        • Yeah I guess it sucks for Sydney siders to get in at 320 local. Melbourne flights usually get in at about 6-7 so I've never had an issue. You could always catch the cab (the official one I mean, not the dodgy touts in the arrivals hall). They should be RM75 fixed fare to town from memory. If there are 2 of you RM75 is just slightly more than 2 express train tickets (which would be 2xRM35). At the current exchange rate thats about A$25. At 320am the traffic will be Ok.

It didn't use to be this way though. I remember they used to leave around midnight and arrive around 6 am. I think maybe it's because it's direct and not 1 stopover in Melb or Bris.

Also they must run roughshod over any objections of nearby residents about airplane noise to be able to land at 0320. Well, it's Malaysia, after all.

There are no residents around the airport in Kuala Lumpur. They moved the airport from its previous location near the residential area to the middle of nowhere (F1 track is located nearby too), so that noise is no longer an issue.

Dont forget to add another $300 on taxes.

    • +3

      taxes are included.

  • Some of their other sale prices are astounding, eg syd-Surabaya $793, I've flown that route and "saved" by paying $100+ more than that!

  • If I was in Sydney I'd compare this sale with flying to Gold Coast or Melbourne to catch an AirAsia flight…

    • This sale is definitely better. For a direct full service flight, the fare has probably reached a low point that will make you think twice if it's worth the inconvenience and risk of domestic flight delays of the latter.

  • Is there any way to book a one-way flight from KL to Sydney within the dates for the promo price?

Trying, but can't get the system to work for me.

Edit - Just read the conditions, return only.

Book it, then just don't board the return flight?

  • well i paid $320 return air asia, and $40 return to melb with tiger

    • Be really careful in doing that, delay or cancellation by Tiger can ruin your whole trip…especially with the strict restriction by low cost airlines. Personally I wouldn't do it. Plus, it'sbetter to fly with a full service airline for a 7 hours flight
