AmEx Velocity Escape - 12,500 Bonus Velocity Points - Entry Level Airline Reward Points AmEx Card

220

Received this promotion because I'm a member of Velocity Frequent Flyer and subscribed to their Other Partner Offers. I've applied for this card because I wanted a simple AmEx card that can earn points for my preferred loyalty program (Velocity) account and not worry about any annual card fees. They got back to me the next day, and approved it advising will receive the package within 7 business days. Needed to get ready before Xmas shopping.

For people not familiar with airline points as a currency - 12500 velocity points is already enough for either:
a Virgin Australia flight from Sydney to Melbourne one way Economy Reward seat on full points (11400) or points+pay (7800 + $23.39AUD)
a $50 coles or bp gift card
a upgrade using points for a Sydney to Melbourne revenue fare or similar

Here are the card features:
12,500 bonus Velocity Points when you apply for the American Express Velocity Escape Card. Simply apply by 21 November 2017, be approved and spend $750 on your new Card within the first three months of Membership to receive the bonus Points.
No Annual Card Fee - With $0 annual Card fee, you can save your money for the things you are curious about.
Boost your Points balance - Earn 1 Velocity Point for every $1 spent (except government bodies where you will earn 0.5 Velocity Points per $1 spent) and 2 Points per $1 spent with Virgin Australia.
Sky’s the limit - There’s no cap on the number of Velocity Points you can earn and all Points will automatically be swept to your Velocity Account each month.

Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited, in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer

I personally think if you are going to sign-up to an Amex card for an upfront bonus then far better to hit up a 100k point card. But if you aren't interested in churning to avoid annual fees and you want Velocity Points (not QFF) then this isn't too bad.

Does this include NAB issued AMEX cards?

any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited

If you don't know what this means then take this as a good opportunity to learn. There is an important distinction which affects so many of the deals on here. Google :)

        • Meh, probably not going to qualify for the minimum spend anyway. Applied anyway for November's shop small

Its better if you go to use a referral, where for the same spend, you will get 15000 points as opposed to only 12500 (this offer) and the referee will also get some bonus points too (10000 I think)
