    Easy $20 assuming you're eligible.

    • +4

Damn, why did I buy an iPhone?

    • +4

      $19.97 to be precise ;)

      • +2

        $19.94

Couldn't put through 3x $0.01 at Woolworths. Repeated transactions were rejected. Ended up doing $0.01, $0.02, $0.03, so CBA knows I'm not just double tapping for the same transaction.

        • Wow they rejected the transactions? That's dodgy as!

        • +1

          @MathNerd:
I paid $0.01; that was fine.
I paid $0.01 again; this got rejected a couple times. (I assume the system thought it was a double or triple entry of the same thing)
So I paid $0.02; that was fine.
I tried $0.01 again; still got rejected.
So I paid $0.03; that was fine.

I'm assuming it thought the attempts with the same value, so close to each other, could be the system re-sending the same request and so it rejects them.

        • +1

          @foundit:

CBA do a duplicate check in their auth routine. you need to give it a few minutes, maybe 20, to clear from the system.

        • how do you find a 1 cent item?

        • +1

          @furythree:
Use the self service when it's pretty empty
Tell it I want to do a split payment
          enter $0.01
          Do another split payment etc

  • good find.

  • +25

Once again, existing users getting penalised… sadface

    • +4

They already have you by the b'''s, so no need to spend on you because these days with all the debits and payments coming out of accounts, people are lazy to change. Simple customer acquisition technique to make the mum and dad CBA investors/instos happy that the bank is 'growing'

      • Certain level of truth to this - I am one of those lazy to change..

    • -7

"The entitlement is strong with this one"

      • It's not really an issue of entitlement. It's an issue of loyalty to existing customers is effectively non existent these days, and more often than not, the reverse is true.

    • +2

So close all your accounts and then open a new account.

    • @iversonjack - Penalised would be if CBA were taking the $20 from accounts of existing customers to give to the new ones. I think your sense of what constitutes a "penalty" might be off.

      • So where do you think the $20 is coming from if not from existing customers?

        • Same place wages for staff come from, same place their money for advertising comes from, same place their dividends for shareholders comes from…the profits they make from the money customers have deposited there that the bank then lends or invests.

Rest assured, no customer will have $20 deducted from their account, and given to one of the 30,000 who qualify for this promotion.

        • -1

          @dm01:
So you agree. The $20 comes from the earnings generated from the customers money that is not distributed back to the customer. This is money that could and should be otherwise disturbed to all customers not just a few. If you are not getting it you are paying for it.

        • @rifter: Nope, disagree, and your ridiculous misrepresentation of my original statement ("Penalised would be if CBA were taking the $20 from accounts of existing customers to give to the new ones.") just makes you look foolish.

You get back from the bank exactly what you agree to based on the T&C's of the account you open with them and the interest rate that applies to that account, as well as access methods and services connected to that account.

If you can't ply your mind to comprehend that simple fact, god help you in this world.

        • straight out of the marketing budget, $20 per user is a small amount to pay for customer acquisition

        • -1

          @dm01:
O how strange it would be to be a slave to the T&Cs put forward by our banks. No need for gods help here. I pity those who let others take their money and do with it as they please because they know or can afford no other way. Good luck being a slave to society. I hope by lifes end you feel you have made the right choices and had a worthwhile existence on this planet.

        • @rifter: No one will have money taken from their accounts to fund the $20 cash-back. Good luck being a slave to stupidity and ignorance.

          FYI, it's ' god's ' and ' life's '.

    • Ahhh ffs I've used it twice

  • +1

    Damnit, bloody 90 day period.

  • +3

Bummer.. I used the Commbank app to tap and pay for the first time in at least a year, just last week :(

  • +11

How kind of them after their near 10 billion $$$ profit announced recently.

    • +2

      $20 x 30000 = $600000, peanuts.

      • better than $600,000 going into some exec's bonus mate! look at the bright side

        • +2

Execs will still get their bonus

  • +2

    Cheers OP good find :)

Android Pay is currently available for Android™ running 4.4 (KitKat) or higher with a Near Field Communication (NFC) antenna and Host Card Emulation (HCE) support.

    List of phones with NFC:
    https://www.nfcworld.com/nfc-phones-list/

    • +1

Not all phones with NFC will support Android Pay and or paying with the CBA app as far as I know.

  • +2

So no min spend? Just 3 taps and badaboom!

    • +2

so its not up to $20 cashback but its instead just pay with it and get $20 in your account?

      • +3

        Yup badaboom!

    • +2

      …Badaboom!

    • +2

yeah, but u dont wanna be anywhere near your card on that third tap. just after u tap, drop it and run. bring earmuffs also.

      • Thought it was tap, drop and roll?

      • +1

Sorry, but I think you might be exaggerating - it's more like this

    • Galaxy Note 7?

  • The existing user penalty just sucks I never use to and only did last week bummer

  • ive used CBA on their app
but not on android pay - am i still eligible…

    • +2

Yes, so long as you haven't used the CommBank app's Tap n Pay in the last 90 days.

    • don't think so.

  • +4

Haha just closed my CommBank last week - typical!

  • +3

Oooh, they're finally supporting Android Pay? Took long enough, but that's great news!

    • +4

I want to know when they're gonna support samsungpay…

      • +3

        Or Apple Pay….

        • +1

They're not. They've just gone into a partnership with nab and Westpac to create a competing standard for no reason.

        • +8

@Kyanar: ah the good ol' competing standards

        • @Kyanar:

Eh? Westpac support both Android and Samsung Pay. Well they nix it in the future?

        • @kevlarman: Kyanar was responding to my wish for them to support Apple Pay.

        • Apple's high service fees may have had something to do with why they chose not to adopt it

        • "Or Apple Pay…."

From what I've read, only one of the four major banks was prepared to accept Apple's conditions of access to the NFC reader in the iPhone. The other three banks wanted direct access to the reader for use with their banking apps but apple refused. So for Commbank at least, you have to stick a NFC tag to the phone to use with the Commbank app.

      • +2

By end of year they say. Already using with ANZ Visa (Note8). Very easy.

      • Need Samsung Pay for the Gear S4 (whenever that's releasing).

  • I have used CBA tap and pay app before but more than 90 days ago. Does that mean I am eligible?

    • +5

      Yes.

Have not used the tap & pay function on CommBank app on Android in the 90 day period prior to the start of the Promotional Period.

    • +11

The good news is yes, you are eligible. The bad news is that you cannot comprehend clear information.

  • Not bad. I'm in.

  • I only have an eftpos card with my CBA transaction account, can I ask for a Debit MasterCard?

    • +4

      Yes, you can ask.

      • Does it cost anything?

        • I believe that provided you're on a Complete or Smart Access account, there's no extra fees. If you're not on one of those accounts you'll likely need to switch to one of those.

          You can read more\upgrade here.

    • +6

Don't worry about asking. Go demand one.

  • minimum spend?

    • doesn't specify in the conditions

      • will this not work with commbank app using tap and pay on an iphone?

        • nope

        • -1

Is your iPhone an android? Can you install AndroidPay on it?

  • Will it work on Commbank app on iPhone?

    • -2

If you’re using an iPhone you can use Tap & Pay by purchasing a PayTag via the CommBank app. A one-off fee of $2.99 will apply.

    • +10

No. “Wearables/smart watch transactions are excluded from this promotion and will not be eligible. Transactions made via iOS Pay Tag are not eligible for this promotion”

      • Thank you added that to the description!

  • +1

Commbank finally comes into this decade. Hurrah!

  • Does this work with iPhone?

    • No, as this is an offer to coincide with the launch of their support for Android Pay.

  • Just made my first purchase with Tap and Pay through the Commbank app last month…

  • +3

    3 x 1c transactions at Woolies/Coles self-checkout ;)

    • +3

Enlighten me, what can you get for $0.01?

      • +3

        Split payments :D

      • +5

        One grape?

        • +2

lol i wonder if the scales would register a single grape… brb :D

        • +1

          In the meantime….

          Grape shortages nationwide!

        • +1

I doubt each person buying 3 grapes would cause a grape shortage :)

        • @Blunglefortness: one grape is probably enough!

        • +1

Thanks for the inspiration. Paid for 3 x mushrooms separately

  • Why on earth does it only work with mastercard?

What happens to all the VISA card user??????

    • +1

Why are you still on VISA anyway ? VISA DEBIT charges higher surcharges to merchants, get Mastercard Debit more goodies, lower surchages for things like bill payments, airfares. Its free anyway, so ask for a conversion from VISA to MASTERCARD

      • Because that is the card I had for the last 17 years and all my reward points are on it.

If I swap over to mastercard, I presume I will lose all my points?

        • Loyalty doesn't pay anymore these days. The points are usually tied to the account and usually you are swapped to what is called in banking terms a new BIN card product, so go and have that chat :P

        • Call them up and ask them, can you send me a master card debit card. I would like to have my present card working and a debit mastercard to avail offers from mastercard.

There is no reason for them to say a No on this.

If the call center representative says it's not possible, ask for a manager.

Source : Partner used to work as a manager for call center division in Melbourne on Collins St.

        • No, you will keep your points, they will transfer at some point within five days to four weeks to the new account.

As to why they've excluded Visa cards from this, I suspect it's because that, apart from the Business Visa Debit, they don't issue Visa cards to new customers anymore (and haven't for a number of years), just Mastercard, Amex and eftpos cards.

    • MasterCard are their sworn enemy. Therefore in the battle of competing multinationals, American Express and Visa are excluded.

  • No similar deal for iOS users?

    • +13

They probably think after you have payed $1500 for a phone you don't really need $20.

  • bloody banks not caring for people already using the tap service!

I def won't be promoting this to anyone

    • Share with your friends then ask them to buy you a coffee (or whatever) for their first tap. Your protest will have zero impact on CBA and you still end up with nothing.
