Computer DVD drives - anyone tested both +ve AND -ve on their drive?

[X]

I’ve tried out a few DVD drives that I think were marked +/- R/RW. Possibly the marking on one was + -R/RW.

I thought that meant the drive can burn both + and - disks as did the sales person (who is a friend). But so far, I haven’t gotten any drives to burn both +ve and -ve drives.

I’ve heard heaps of people tell me of course there are drives that burn + and -, but on further questioning, they revealed they’d never tried it themselves.

So the questions are: - is there anyone out there, burning + and - using the same drive? - if so, can you tell me what brand and model? - does anyone know why drives that look like they are marked +/- R/RW would burn only one of + or -?

Thanks for your time

Mine can. Pioneer 109. I think it also depends on the discs as well, brand and speed.

The DVD+R/RW I’ve burnt include TDK’s and shintaro’s.

Thanks kycw.

I’ve got Shintaro +R and -R, but my notebook will only burn the -R, whereas an older external DVD burner will take +R …

Did you need to change any settings for the Pioneer?

No. I don’t know how to change the settings… lol

I updated the firmware to try to make it region free, so maybe you can try that. You can post on whirlpool for help, a lot more knowledgeable people there.

Many thanks kycw

You should be able to burn either type in a +/- drive.. As far as I’m aware there are no setting to change.. How old is the burning software you’re using??

Fairly new. Nero OEM version 6.6.0.18. Ulead Video Studio 11.

Brought up the names of my drives. Matshita UJ-822D and Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-852S USB Device.

Nero Infotool says both drives can read and write to +R and -R
