  • Are these network locked? I would like to buy my dad one who is back in South Africa

They still have 2G over there. You can get him a real Nokia.

      • I was going to say, he uses whatsapp, among a few things, but it seems this does not support whatsapp, SAD

It’s a feature phone. Odd term considering the features are pretty much phone and SMS.

        • +3

Definitely no WhatsApp. There's no WiFi either.

          Source: I have one

    • Yes they are locked

    • +1

Also interested how easy these are to unlock? Vodafone used to be very easy back in the day. Anyone know if this is still the case?

  • the shud have brought back nokia 8850. i was so envious of ppl who had those back then

The Telstra Cruise is $9.00 @Coles starting Wednesday 22nd Nov.

Nostalgia comes at a price it seems…

Especially to Indians who comment online praising this new Chinese HMD, Nokia-branded handsets.
        Not even kidding.

I tried them out, and there's no special sauce to these.
It's literally just a logo with a markup.
Getting a decent Xiaomi, ZTE, or other OEM seems like a wiser/value choice.

Thanks for the heads up. Been looking for a cheap and light emergency phone for cycling.

      • +1

If you're taking about the Telstra cruise phone, you can get a 6 month sim for $30 I think. Aldi won't work on it, and the phone is not easy to unlock, if it can get unlocked.

        • Thanks heaps! I was thinking to unlock and use an Aldi SIM. Any clues why this phone is hard to unlock?

        • +2

I bought three for the grandkids for emergencies six months ago and had them unlocked in eBay by kevinlow82 in London for about $2 and put in aldi starter Sims that last a year, but he couldn't unlock the two I bought last week. Also Bagman said he couldn't unlock the new ones.

This was discussed in another thread and someone suggested

        • @abacus: thank you! It's people like you that make ozB great

        • Aw shucks, I love you too. :)

        • Importantly the Telstra Cruise is only on 850mhz 3G.

Thus after the 2G shutoff it will only realistically work on Telstra.

Nokia works on both 850mhz/900mhz 3G so will work on Telstra, Voda, Optus.

    Kris kringle sorted.

  • love this phone

  • Could it still be weaponized?

Seems like a perfect phone for my grandma! I'll go grab it tomorrow.

  • Since Kogan is on the Vodafone network, will I be able to use a Kogan Sim card in this phone without unlocking it?

    • From what I've read, no.

    • +2

I bought this from woolies today and it worked with Kogan without unlocking.

      • Thanks!
Grabbed the last one at my local Woolies today 👍

  • Well this is disappointing. The Woolies I went by on the way to work didn't have stock :-(

  • +1

None at Woolies Subiaco, WA. And the staff was so unhelpful, she didn't even want to open the drawer to check. Sigh, so much for customer service.

Picked one up this afternoon at Woolworths Wetherill Park. They are not on display, need to ask for it.

Got one now… just need to figure out the best way of unlocking this thing.

    • If you're with Kogan, you don't need to unlock it.
Otherwise, try to see if Vodafone will unlock it for you for free (tell them you're going overseas and you need to use your phone there) or alternatively find someone on eBay to unlock it for you.

      • Cheers mate.

I'm with Kogan but this is for mum and she is thinking of going overseas so it would be a plausible reason for me - lol

  • +1

Perth is definitely running low on stock for this phone!

  • +1

Adelaide is running low - called several stores, no luck. They're ordering more stock in.

3 left at Gilles Plains - all Charcoal in colour.
