  • Great worked for me on an existing account with no current memberships!

    • What does 'no current memberships' mean?

      • +1

I have no active monthly memberships on my account. You can subscribe to the Audible and pay a monthly fee to get a single credit to buy a book (a book costs a credit)

        • Thanks Kearnsy!

      • +1

you can have an account with Audible without active membership. Without a membership you can still access your previously purchased audio books without benefits to members.

  • Worked for me too on an existing account with no current membership

  • When I click on the link I get a 1 Month offer. My membership isn't active.

Edit: changed browsers and it worked

  • Prefect Thanks. Can we cancel now? Or have to wait 2 months?

    • +1

Looks like if you cancel you loose your credits

    • +2

Well it is for 2 books over 2 months. You get one credit straight away. I would cancel after redeeming the second credit on you 2nd month anniversary.

      • +5

"2nd month anniversary". You mean after 1 month. An anniversary is annual. Your second one would be at the end of 2 months. You could use the made up word "monthaversary" ala "1st monthaversary" but I'd have to groan and sigh in your general direction.

        • +10

Mensiversary is the word you’re looking for:

        • -3

@Meconium: Like menses? I imagine that only applies to women.

        • the English teachers are back.

btw Merriam-Webster is more flexible than you are: "…broadly : a date that follows such an event by a specified period of time measured in units other than years the 6-month anniversary of the accident"

        • +1

          @SlickMick:

          Merriam-Webster is sloppy.

          Cambridge https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/annivers…
          Dictionary.com http://www.dictionary.com/browse/anniversary?s=t

Google's dictionary even gives the origin. LATIN annus = year, LATIN versus = turning -> LATIN anniversarius = returning yearly -> MIDDLE ENGLISH anniversary.

Oxford does have as it's last clearly marked as informal definition "The date on which a romance began in a previous month or week."
          https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/anniversary

Language is always changing but I'm not a fan of using a word dervied from annual to mean monthly or weekly.

          sorry I couldn't resist

        • +1

          @syousef:

even 2 out of 3 dictionaries are more tolerant than you. The guy could have got away with "anniversary" on a university report, but not an ozbargain comment.

I agree with you btw, but just would like to see all the "grammar nazi" posts in a separate forum where you guys can complain about how bad our English is while we get on with finding bargains.

        • @SlickMick:

Fixed it but fair call. I had a chuckle too.

        • @SlickMick:

Grammar Nazi? Okay. Whatever. Last I checked a lot of things other than bargains were discussed here. If you aren't interested in a discussion, you can always disengage.

        • @syousef:
Yeah, variety is the spice of life. But grammar mistakes are bland and repetitive.
With the quantity of such comments it would seem that ozbargainers are really fussy about grammar, but in fact you're just a vocal minority. All vocal minorities annoy me.

          :)

        • @SlickMick:

You must be annoyed a lot.

Variety doesn't need to be imprecise or sound ill-informed. I didn't ask this guy to be thrown off the board. I just corrected one thing he said. If you want to talk about a vocal minority, you're the only one that complained. Do you annoy yourself?

        • @syousef:
Yeah, that's my point. Being on the tolerant team, I usually wouldn't comment. So yes, I feel that this is a low point in my life, and I'm pretty annoyed with myself for starting this conversation.

I agree that the world would be a better place if everyone wrote well. Maybe it's admirable that you want to change the world. But gosh it's going to be a lot to endure until we get there.

        • @SlickMick:

I'm sure the world will manage, with or without my comments.

  • Thank you very much..

once the promo is over…its hard to justify the regular price of $14.95 for only 1 book per month…or am I missing something?

    • +6

      or am I missing something

Different people place different values on goods and services.

    • That's just the price of audiobooks really. I buy them from Google Play and that's the average price of them. Then again I would find it difficult to bring myself to pay that if it weren't for Google rewards.

      • Going to look up that google rewards, that sounds like a better way to pay for them

        • +1

If you listen to one book a year and dont buy any apps, then maybe.

        • -1

          @Danthemanz: you only get $15 a year? I get at least $100.

        • +1

          @Where's_That_Cake:
$41 in 2.5 years. It started higher but then they had all the information they needed on me…lol

    • $15 for an audiobook isn’t too bad.
When they first came it, I was paying over $30 per book.

      • +1

Whoa. Didn’t realise they were that expensive in the past

    • +7

This guy sells Audible codes much cheaper, can confirm his codes work https://exploreaudiobooks.com/. You can have an account without paying the $14.95 a month and instead loadup with a bunch of this guy's codes. Each code gets you a credit (boook).

      • Thanks for the link. Will check it out

      • Does this work if you have AUD account instead of US?

        Update: doesn't look like it

        • Worked for me on a US account I had before they opened the Au shop. i've used this guy a couple of times and it has worked every time.

      • This might sound like a stupid question, but how does it work? I can see the option to buy say 3 credits for $18 USD, but then what? Going by te FAQ, do you then send them the Audible.com link to the book you want and they buy them for you somehow? What if I bought 3 credits but only want 1 book? There doesn't seem to be an abvious way to manage this through their site: no account/login page etc.

        • +1

When i did it I paid via Paypal, he sent me an email with a couple of codes on it. Somewhere in Audible there is a window to enter promo codes, I copy and pasted the codes from his email 1 at a time into the window and presto, for each one I entered a credit showed up on my account. it only works for the US store or the UK store. I have a US and an Australian account.

        • +1

@2ndeffort: I just tried it and it worked. I wasn't sure if I had a US or AU Audible account, but went with the theory that I log in to the ".com" not ".com.au" so it must be US.

          Thanks

      • they used to be a fair bit cheaper.
still, not bad compared with monthly $15

    • There's also quite a lot of hours of work to record an audio book.

      • It takes much longer to write the book ;)

    • +1

When you cancel they always offer you either an extra token or a discount for a few months. Usually it's $8 a month for 3 months. I keep cancelling at the end of the 3 months and renewing.

  • I'm not sure if I got one month or two. There was no mention, just that I was getting gold membership for $0.

  • I always have trouble getting through one book a month and the monthly credits have started to pile up. Can I cancel my membership and still listen to the books I have downloaded or can you not use the system unless your membership is active?

    • Once you have the books in your account they are there forever.
So once you buy the book with the credit you can go back and listen to it even after you cancel your subscription.

    • You lose any credits you have when you cancel your membership. However any books you've bought will still be accessible from your library.

What I do is use the credits to buy the books I need, then cancel.

      EDIT: Beat me to it.

      • Just don't cancel before you spend both credits, otherwise you lose the credits.

    • You can use defiantly use the system even if membership is not active.
I stopped getting the membership a few months ago and still use Audible most days.
      Edit-Also beaten

      • Awesome, thanks everyone

Does the gift work with Amazon AU orders or is it US? Seems to be US in the terms.

    • +1

      Yep.

The Amazon.com Gift Card only applies to products sold by Amazon.com

      • Thanks

  • Worked for me, 2 months/credits free and $10 Amazon gift voucher. Have had previous free credits on the account.

Edit: Actually it looks like my Amazon and Audible accounts are not currently linked. So I have two separate Audible accounts, an original Audible account and the actually Amazon account. Previous free credits were via Audible account, this deal is for Amazon account. I assume once I merge to the two accounts together, it will combine the audiobooks into the Amazon account…

  • +2

Had an active account, cancelled and did this, and it worked. Thanks

    • Hey, so you cancelled your active account and signed up to this and it worked???

      • Yep. I had a few credits already so I used them first, cancelled, then signed up using this link and it said $0 total. Got another credit immediately. No $10 gift yet, but I think that's in a week?

        • I’ve just signed up and got 1 credit. Did you end up getting the $10 voucher? I haven’t seen one yet.

        • @JC1986: I got it today, 6 hours ago!

  • +1

Worked for me, thanks to the OP.

I find the cheapest way is to buy the kindle book and select "add Audible book to purchase".
Usually works out cheaper than the monthly charge.

  • Got it x3, had to use laptop not phone

    Thanks

    • How did you get x3? Did you delete account and register and vice versa?

      • 3 accounts
        Mine, secondary and my wifes

  • Thanks OP Awesome deal!

  • -7

So what is this - recordings of people reading books? Wow the world has come a long way…

In for the $10 credit though - cheers OP

Audio books may not seem great at first but give them a try They really are excellent for commuting, exercising, cooking, chores ect anything you can do on autopilot.
Are there any genres of books or movies in particular you like maybe some people here can recommend some books to you?

    • +1

Hard to read them yourself sitting in gridlock on the freeway for 2 hrs each way every day!

    • I don’t think people realise how less time consuming and more convenient Audiobooks are than the traditional books. While there is certain allure in physical books or the act of traditional reading, I, for one find audiobooks much better.

    • I'm listening to the Martian at the moment (you may recall the movie with Matt Damon) while I'm painting my house. It goes for over 10 hours and definitely makes the time go easier.

I'm playing it through my Google home which is great. I use my voice if need to rewind, control the volume or pause without the need to worry about getting enamel paint all over the place.

    • Yes because I have trouble reading books. Great for driving

  • So I take this would not work for new membership?

    • +1

New audible membership it does. Amazon account needs to have existed prior to March 31, 2018 and have had a transaction within the last 6 months.

      • It worked for me on an existing Amazon account with no transanctions

        • You probably won't get emailed the $10 gift card then. "To qualify to receive the Amazon.com Gift Card you must have an existing Amazon.com account that was opened prior to March 31, 2018 and that account must have been active (as evidenced by at least $1 in transactions) during the six months up to March 31, 2018." The free Audible months don't have any restrictions.

      • Its only offering me 30 days free audible on the link.
Am I missing something. Maybe $10 amazon gift card is available for new users, but not the 2 month free trial.

        • I've updated the link, it should now work on mobile devices. If it still doesn't work, try desktop mode.

        • @ohdear: thank you. It does seem to work now.

  • Great. No interest in the books, but $10 amazon credit is always welcome.

  • +3

    Doesn't work with .com.au site.

    • It automatically takes me to .com.au site via android phone, so I should choose just go to .com site, not .au ?

  • -1

Got the free signup but no free credit yet, how does the credit arrive?

    • -1

Takes up to 2 weeks.. by email.

It says all this during the sign-up..

      • Two weeks for the amazon $10 credit… what about the free book credit? Is that instant? Can’t seem to find it my audible app, although I got the email confirmation

  • +1

Hah, nice, I was just looking for a discount on Audible. I tried the "start to cancel and they'll give you a discount" trick last week, but they only offered me account suspension, switching to silver (1 book every other month), or $9.95 a year to maintain my credits while cancelling the monthly payment.

I saw this, went and cancelled my subscription, then clicked the link and resubscribed! Two free credits and $10. Thanks OP!

  • +1

Thanks OP! I'm not sure what I'm missing but it only says 30 days free trial for me. Can anyone help?

    • Need to sign up on the internet rather than through the App. Then when you sign into the App, you need to use the .com Marketplace. Mine wasn't showing as I was logged into the .com.au Marketplace. Maybe this is the issue for you?

  • Worked on existing account with no membership. thanks op.

  • You are AWESOME.

  • -2

How long does it take before you get the $10 credit?

    • within 2 weeks you will receive a follow-on email containing a unique code for a $10 electronic Amazon.com Gift Card

  • Let me sign up with my Amazon account and a prepaid VISA card (practically zero balance).

  • So let me get this right. Sign up. Wait 6 weeks then you can keep your $10 for anything on Amazon. Com?
    Thx

    • You also get 2 free audiobooks.

      • did you 2 credits come up in your a/c on signup or would they come over the 1st 2 months?

        • +1

Got one credit so far. Second credit will come next month.

  • What is the most expensive & better than average audiobook at present?

  • Thanks mate, deal of the day!

  • They may throw in an extra book credit if you cancel your membership just to keep you an extra month.
