One Way Car Rentals - Campervan Relocation Deals for $1.00 Plus a $25.00 Booking Fee

60

I just Booked a One Way Car Rentals 12 Seater Van from Melbourne to Sydney for $1 p/day plus a $25.00 Booking fee, they have none left x- Melbourne, but heaps from other cities ie: Brisbane.

They ask for a $25.00 Booking fee and a $1000.00 Bond, still makes a good deal.

  • Did this, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9813

You can save more if you can just figure out which company has the rental and call them up directly. Did a trip from Cairns to Melbourne for next to nothing. All linen, tableware, etc. was provided.

  • Best way to do it is call up standby relocs and ask they what company holds the car, I also used Britz you just call them and ask whats avail, they get 60-70 calls a day for this.

  • The days allowed, late notice and the limited kilometres ruin this deal for me. Still, if you are travelling the routes they offer, during the strict time period they offer, this may be a good deal for you.

You can add on extra days for the regular price. Same with kilometers, they will just charge x amount per km over. In any case, you may be able to negotiate all of this while you are booking it/pick it up.

      • I've found you actually get the extra days at a reduced daily rate with some companies. We did a relocation 6-berth from Adelaide to Melbourne. The advertised relocation rate was $25/day with 900km allowance. We booked it for a fourth day @ $75/day (not the ~$220/day for that time of year at full rate), and got an extra 300km.

  • I'd like to warn others that if you scratch any of these one day rentals, the charges are really high.
Make sure you read the terms really carefully.

    • If you scratch any rental, the charges are really high.

Strangely, some companies have a lower charge for damaged relocation vehicles. If you read the Apollo Campers T&Cs, the starting fee for damage = $7500 if you're renting it. However, if you're relocating it, it's $1000. I'm not sure why - I always get separate travel insurance anyway so it's handy. Most travel insurance only covers up to $3000 by default and only a few let you top up to the full $7500 by paying extra. When the damage charges are reduced for relocation vehicles, it saves me buying "top up" insurance for vehicle rental charges which saves a bit more money.

Mr Apollo, if you're reading this, please don't change the policy. I appreciate the risk of lower charge. And I've never had to use the insurance anyway but there's always a first time (but I really hope not!!!) :-)

I don't think this is a deal as this is an ongoing arrangement. I think it is more suited to the forums or to the wiki page on cheap hotels/transport.
