  • price + $19.95 shipping for me.

    • Sign up for the (free) 30 day Ebay Plus promo and you can cancel - immediately. I did this literally two minutes after signing up.

      • alright thanks.

      • -4

        Lol @ cancel immediately.

Why would you not cancel just before 30 days? What if other great deals come up in the next 30 days lol

        • +11

Canceling immediately just means it stops it automatically renewing in another 30 days… You still get the full 30 days after you cancel.

        • +1

          @jayman450:

Oh right thanks, didn't realise it worked that way. Gonna cancel mine too lol

        • +6

@montorola: Cancelling immediately works, but it might not be the best way for this one. You get a discount to $29 for the first year if you continue your trial. And we have no idea if this will be the only promo for eBay plus members or there could be more.

If you decide later you are missing too many deals, the first year will cost you $49 instead.

        • +1

          @montorola:

Best to wait until the last day to cancel. If there's still a lot of good deals then it might be worth that $29 to have it for the first year.

I wouldn't be surprised if most, but not all the %10+ off sitewide coupons start being for eBay plus members.

Farrrk. Wish i waited for this 1080… bought the colorful version facepalm

    • +6

Better cooler on the Colorful, same warranty and it has 2x8 pin power connectors instead of 1x8+1x6. On paper it should clock higher. I guess you don't get the brand recognition of MSI though.

I wouldn't be facepalming too hard.

      • +1

        Thanks for the reassurance :P

      • Gaming X has better thermals.

        • You sure about that?

The Twin Frozr cooler is a 10 year old design with less fans and mass than the Vulcan X cooler on the 1080. There are fewer fans on the MSI and the heatsink is significantly shorter/thinner than the Vulcan X on Colorful.

The Twin Frozr cooler on the 1080 Gaming X is the same cooler they put on a 1050ti Gaming X. I think that's quite telling.

Happy to change my mind if you can find some benchmarks showing the opposite, but from what I see the Colorful Vulcan X is a much better cooler than the MSI Twin Frozr.

      • I've only heard bad things about MSI's warranties… not sure about colorful

  • +1

That seems like a very good price for the 1080TI, hmm so tempting

    • No backplate on this model is a deal breaker for me. 1070 & 1080 both have backplate in the Gaming series, but this Ti does not.

      • +1

Whats the benefit of a backplate?

        • +1

I reckon dust is easier to wipe off.

        • Looks mostly…but some would argue rigidity, slightly better cooling etc
Pretty exxy card to not have a backplate, that was my point originally.

        • +1

The only one I can see other than looks obviously is what Raptor said but even that is something that doesn't seem enough to be even near a 'dealbreaker'

        • @Basimx:
Just my opinion….I've had a card without and a card with, and I'll never get one without again. And I love Gigabyte too btw.

        • @whorishmouth: Yeah but I don't understand how it's a dealbreaker by any means. If it's good value and from a reputable brand then what does it matter Lol

        • @Basimx: Some of the reviews of the card are pretty brutal. Some QC issues for sure.

        • +1

@cNelson144: I was talking about backplates not the card. He didn't mention any of that being a dealbreaker but instead the backplate which is what confuses me.

        • @whorishmouth:
Don't think its worth that $200 more for the backplate though

  • Should I finally pick up a 1080 Ti? I'm in no rush, but said I would buy one if I saw it between $800-900. How much you guys reckon they'll drop by Christmas?

    • -4

Quite a bit, since the 1180 could be coming quite soon(august), probably just stock clearance for them.

      • +6

        Stop spreading rumors.

      • +1

        August 2019 maybe.

    • I'm in the same boat. Still using my laptop to tide me over, but waiting for either a sizeable price drop or the new 11 series.
I'm going to hold out a little while longer as prices seem to keep dropping on the Ti's (and other cards). If I miss out, then there's always the 11 series to fall back on.
Another thing of note, is that the 11 series might not be as a big of a jump at the 10 series was, so a 1080 Ti might perform around the same as an 1180. Purely speculation on my part though and I could be completely wrong.

    • As @andrew1232 said, the new cards should be coming "anytime now" - which has been predicted for the last 6 months, to be anytime from March through to September.

If your existing card is working fine, then hold off (generally a good idea in tech), then buy just after the new cards have been released, and they have their first price drop/10%/20% off ebay special.

That said, I'd expect a 1080ti to drop to $500 second hand after the new cards are released - so is it worth $400 to you to have the best card you can, for the next 3-4 months?

If you're only running 1080p or 1440p at less than 100Hz, then either a 1080, or the vega56 are better bang for buck.

      • I'm running a GTX 960 but have a 144Hz 1440p monitor I can barely game with, because the GPU just can't handle it. That doesn't really bother me, as I'm not gaming much right now at the moment, but I would still like to upgrade as I do video editing as well.

I don't want to buy a 1080 Ti second hand, I'll only buy new. People are still trying to sell their 1080 Tis second hand for $900 now. There was also a report yesterday of Jen Hsun saying they are not coming until a long time for now; but who knows what that actually means.

If the new cards have a hefty price tag, especially in Australia, I can't see it affecting the price of the 1080 Ti too much.

I am leaning towards picking this up, I just have a bit of hesitation as I don't need it. It's just a good price, and cant see it dropping more than $100 over the next few months

        • I believe (unless hes said it again) that the report of new cards not coming for "a long time" was said quite a while ago (during computex??) Since then there was a rumor from an "industry source" that they would be released in stores on July 30th… However shortly after that was the report of 300,000 cards being returned by a major oem, so that may push that date back. I'm still hopeful for July 30th but if not it shouldn't be too far afterwards… All speculation of course.

        • @Riczter: You might be right. It was just included in an article that was released yesterday, but it might have just been an update on where everything is at now. It also included the rumoured 300,000 cards sent back to Nvidia recently

    • -1

Rumors ive heard is that the 1080ti performance will be close to the 1180 performance and will retail around $1200 so I cant see 1080ti being sold for much less than $900 if a similar performance card has an msrp of $300 more… all speculation though but fwiw this seems like a sweet deal.

Edit: correction: 1180 performance is rumoured to be around a titan xp performance, better than a 1080ti.

      • +2

The rumors are that the 1170 will be like the 1080 ti. The 1180 should hopefully be a lot better.

  • +1

Thanks op. Ordered the 1080, will be a good upgrade for my 780GTX

    • Also considering it now as I'm on an old 7850 HD. Just wondering how future proof it'll be for 4k and VR =/.

      • +1

        Hey, HD 6850 user here.

      • -2

If you want future proofing probably better to wait for 1180 as it has a new display interface on it.

        • +1

          What new display interface?

  • Gigabyte 1080ti vs Strix 1080ti? Is it worth ~200-300 more?

    • +3

@ejayt Performance wise, not really. They all clock up to about the same (1900Mhz to 2100Mhz range) - the main advantage of the strix is the massive cooler, which will stop the card from throttling a bit at the very-high-end of overclocking. The strix also has a backplate, the gigabyte does not.

    • +1

I also went with a similar one to the strix yesterday in the sale (gigabyte aorus 1080ti) for ~$150 over the price of the MSI one here. When I saw this deal I thought oh crap, but realistically it's not a terrible price for a card that's arguably better than the one in this deal.

  • daaaamn i really want that 1080ti but i used the coupon last night… do you think I would get away with making a second ebay + ebay plus account???

    • +1

with a different email? Don't see why not

      • +2

        Sweet, it worked :)

  • My trigger finger was itchy at the Colorful bargain, but I'm so happy I held out. Tears of real joy over an MSI 1080 at this price!

  • +1

I have tried to buy Gigabyte Radeon RX Vega 56 Gaming OC 8GB $618.8 but the vouchers PLUS 15 is not working for me, any advice?

  • Im thinking the 1080ti.. good upgrade from the HD7970 ASUS ?

        • Have you used the code already for another purchase?
