+3 votesThis is NOT a bargain. On 1 Feb this was $189 (down from $269) on the same site: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:9FJuVqx...
Increase the price, then drop it? I don't think i'll ever buy from that site now.
+1 voteWhat they have done is a possible breach of the Trade Practices Act: http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/815334
At the very least it's poor form to previously have the RRP at $249, and now claim it is "$299".
prestige appliances on 07/02/2011 - 15:33 ¶Please check link here for RRP. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256972721126/belling...

cheaper on ebay (admittedly only 2 available, but does show RRP of $249)

lakers1222 on 07/02/2011 - 15:48 ¶… and now that you mention it. it also breaches Comparisons with the recommended retail price (RRP)
lakers1222 on 07/02/2011 - 15:48 ¶Agreed, this deal breaches Was–Now advertising and Strike-through pricing.

I hate to burst all your bubbles, but none of those sites ever actually says their price is the RRP.
I agree that it is dishonest of the retailer to increase the list price and then discount it down so quickly afterwards and that is probably breaching was-now advertising and strike-through pricing guidelines.
Google cache is pretty awesome :)
elcheapoinoz on 07/02/2011 - 15:26 ¶ahh. I just realized it's just 1 hotplate!
I bough a 4 hotplate from graysonline for the same price in postage.
elcheapoinoz on 07/02/2011 - 18:16 ¶well one non portable cooktop with 4 plates, you know. the ones for the kitchen.

+1 voteWelcome, I see you just joined OzBargain. Hopefully you're not a sockpuppet.
There's nothing special about the price compared to other stores and other similar items, so the status of this as a "bargain" is already dubious. And as mbroere proved, the same store sold it cheaper last week. If it's not a bargain, it doesn't belong on OzBargain.
It's also deceptive (and possibly illegal) to previously state the list price as $249, and now change it to $299 just so they can inflate their claims of a discount. It goes to the heart of how reputable a seller is, and whether they are worth dealing with.
+1 votetofu_soldier on 07/02/2011 - 16:03 ¶you might be missing his/her point.
i dont believe his/her point is about buying (or not buying) the product,
i see it as more into whether or not it's a bargain.suggesting him/her buying from ebay is not going to retract his/her negative vote.

Not a discount, sunbeam IP3400 has a better model and make. And it is cheaper too. This website is for real discounts and not some advertisement!!!!
