Oh nice! Stacked with discounted Coles giftcards!

    • +1

      Does that work?
Didn’t think it did at Coles?

      • -2

Dont have to neg for this, i will bring you to neutral.

And i am fairly confident that you cant use gift cards to buy gift cards in coles.

        • +6

I've used eGift cards to buy Bunnings and Netflix gift cards as recently as last week. I went through the self checkout and didn't even need a staff member to verify activation/check my work.

        • +1

@daanish: only Bunnings and Netflix gift card works that way, all other gc require staff approval at self checkout

        • +3

          Simple question I thought.
I’ll be using if it does work.

        • @daanish:
Where from did you buy bunnings gift cards coles or woolies i have never seen any gift cards from woolies i heard bigw might have bunnings gift cards but not sure.
I want to buy something asap from bunnings and trying to get further discount but i have found from previous experience buying gift cards with gift cards dont work.
This was at self checkout and other.
Dont want to get egift and then be stuck with it.
Im in wa so maybe dont work here.
          Never tried in coles though.
Is there a procedure or process on what needs to be done?
Im used to grabbing egift cards from cashrewards but dont think they do coles.

        • +2

          @bwatt72:

          Bunnings gc from coles yes

        • +1

@taoz: it was a good question. some people are just jealous they can't ask relevant questions :-)

        • @daanish:
Possibly you can’t do coles Group ones. I’ve tried and does not allow.
Does anyone know if it’s just coles group ones you can’t buy? Rest you can?
          Flight centre? Anyone know

      • +2

I once tried selling an ebay voucher on ebay and the website crashed.

      • Yes you can at self checkout. I usually just buy it together with my groceries and they don't usually notice

        • +1

Didn't work, trying to pay by gift card brought up an error message that only the operators could remove and they warn then watch closely to make sure payment is not by gift card. Scanning the eBay giftcard to purchase also brings up a message to operator saying expiry date has to be written which forces attendants over too

        • @phantom:
I can confirm what phantom above has experienced, seems the staff have been trained to watch closely and error message alerts them to explain that gift card is not a valid method of payment

        • +1

@forrester: Was lucky then this afternoon. Went to checkout with 2 ebay $50 cards and 2 long life $1 milk packs.

Scanned each of those for $51 and the system prompted for the staff to login. The lady swiped and left in a hurry, I was able to approve the gift card myself and selected Gift card as a payment.

It was still logged in as a staff and quickly scanned the second lot, paid and walked out.

          Thanks OP.

        • +1

          @forrester:

I just bought over the service desk a ebay gift card by my Coles egift card at Boxhill, no issue at all..

        • @jhsun74: Yes, it is definitely a staff restriction and not a system restriction.

The only system restriction that i am aware is that you cannot split payment between a gift card and credit credit while purchasing a Gift card.
make sure you have a coles gift value higher than your purchase amount

        • @spk: Yes, this is to reduce fraud, making sure that full balance is paid before card is activated.

    • Yea I'd like to know too, have you done that before?

      • +1

yep I do it for Bunnings & grabbed some G.Play cards a few weeks ago paying at a self service checkout with a gift card.

    • Can we pay for gift cards with gift cards?

      • Yes.

      • Yep

      • -2

Don't keep your hope up, most Coles staff will not allow you to do that.

        • Self checkout

        • @easternculture:

if you buy one at a time it will be fine, if you do multiple transactions then it will alert them
i normally buy some more stuff so that i am not look suspicious.

        • @LoveBargain15:

I'm tempted to get one coles egift card save myself $10 by getting a $200 gift card if coles have it but I'm worried that I'm stuck with the egift card, I have not had much experience buying woolies gift cards with egift cards so I'm unsure if this be wise.
If it had been woolies be ok as I use egift card on next shop but I rarely shop at coles do most from woolies.
I could risk buying a $200 coles egift card and then try and buy a Bunnings gift card with it but not work and stuck with it.
Just for $10 saving if I know it works for sure great.

        • +2

@easternculture: self-checkout requires staff approval and many of them will even ask how you pay and stick there until you swipe your card.

        • @samehada

Ok thanks probably not worth the risk then over $10 saving as dont want to be stuck with the egift card.

        • +1

@bwatt72: could buy petrol at Coles express maybe? Booze at LiquorLand? Or, you know, food at Coles?

        • @neil aus:

could buy petrol at Coles express maybe?

didn't know you could use the $10 off on petrol?

        • @CVonC:
Don't think it works at coles express or liquor land either

        • +1

          @samehada:

my tactic is don't scan the flybuys card first and use Stocard which show the flybuys card in your phone, when the staff see you need to scan the flybys card they will step away.

Also go in at a busy time, if you are buying one at a time they wont say notice, or just buy something low value together and mask.

this morning I been to town hall Coles metro, the self check guys dont care if I am using giftcard so I bought 6(there is only 6 giftcard)

        • @neil aus: I can confirm that you can purchase fuel with Flybuys points- have done it before. Cheers :)

        • -1

@LoveBargain15: What Coles at Town Hall? There isn’t a Coles there; only Woolworths …

        • +1

@kerfuffle: He means the one you often visit ;)

        • @Turd: That’s in Wynyard though … Plus I know you go there too ;) But also also, that Coles never participates in these sorts of promotions (I think only World Sqaure and Broadway will net you catalogue bonus points for city dwellers/workers)

        • @kerfuffle: It does, they do, just do it. =)

        • @kerfuffle:
          Near Apple Store

        • @Turd: Really? It’s considered an Express store though like the one on King St …

        • +1

@kerfuffle: Both participate. =) Yes they do. They are just regular ones now, not "express" ones.

        • @LoveBargain15: That’s not Town Hall, that’s on the next block over to Town Hall and that’s a Coles Express so not sure whether you’d actually get your points …

        • @Turd: Huh, you learn something new every day …

        • +1

@kerfuffle: Previous times Ive gotten points, same with the King Street one.

        • @kerfuffle: Yes! Have a look next time it says Coles Supermarket, my reciept does at the top .
I think they mean the petrol coles express ones do not participate.

        • @kerfuffle:

There could be either Town hall or Wynyard not next block to Town hall.It name is Coles George St

        • +2

@Turd: wynyard and george street doesn't cater catalogue specials.. flybuys promotions are still valid.

        • @spk: It's not a special per say, they never have sales on items. But im pretty sure points post, if it doesnt no loss. already used the card. :)

        • +1

          @Turd:

I have checked their receipt and it is like normal Coles supermarket not Coles express and I did get point from thesame promotion there previously.

        • @LoveBargain15: Ya I have mine in front of me. Will see in a day or two, but im 99% sure will get the bonuxxes

        • @Turd: Sorry if I didn't phrase it correctly. I always get flybuys points promotion when i shop at George street or wynyard.

Example: Spend $XX for 4 weeks and get XXXX points, and one like this.

Only downside is that express stores doesn't have special prices

        • @spk: ahh makes sense. Yep they do not have sales LOL dodgy, however they are always sooo busy!!!

      • Where does one get this Coles gift card ?

        • AFAIK there is no universally accessible portal for people to buy discounted Coles gift cards. I can get them (and a bunch of others) through my Red Energy rewards site; other people get them through work related memberships or benefits from their insurance companies, I think.

          EDIT - it's answered below! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

        • @Cheemeister:

I can get after years of not knowing through suncorp lol, was going to get $200 coles for $190 and use in coles to get bunnings cards but i risk not getting them as i believe they dont approve of it gift cards to get gift cards.
So its bunnings i go psying full price.
Such a shame masters was not around as did it often eith egift cards from woolies.

        • @Cheemeister: which credit card can you pay with Red Energy portal and is there any fees?

        • @Cheemeister: Ah yes RED, Im with them to. Thank you for that

    • Nah u can get only once

    • Noob question, but where can I buy discounted Coles gift cards?

  • +1

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing really early ETB!

  • Have there been better deals on ebay cards in the past?

    • don't think so.

    • yeah back in Feb/Mar Woolies had a similar deal (effectively 20% back in points). But I don't believe they had a limit on purchases. Because I grab ~$800 …should have grabbed $8000 :-(

      • thanks, should keep a look out for this deal again, they come around each year i'm sure.

      • +1

As far as I can remember, the only deal on eBay gift card at Woollies is 10% off.

        • oh maybe that was it. it was prob 20% off Google play/netflix or something. sorry.

  • If I use $10 off my flybuy points at check out (So I'll be paying $40) will I still get the bonus?

    • -1

      yep

      • +4

I try to use the flybuy $ to buy gift card and the the system wont let me

        • He is asking about $10 auto redemption via Coles Financial Service.not points conversion and pay.

        • @Neoika: I'm confused, what is the difference between $10 auto redemption and flybuy $? 😵

        • +1

@O O: Most flybuys users never see this screen. If you saw it before, you know what I mean.
          https://i.pointhacks.com/2016/10/24171520/flybuys101.jpg

        • +2

@Neoika: you will only get this auto-deduction if you have Coles credit card linked to the flybuys account or the discontinued Coles Reloadable MC linked.

    • +6

You can't use flybuys$ to pay for gift cards, neither self checkout nor manned.
The only exception I am aware of is Bunnings gc, somehow you just can.

      • -3

can you buy Bunnings gc from Coles? Never found that in Woolworths.

        • +3

That's because Coles and Bunnings are both owned by Wesfarmers

      • That's good to know, did you do it at the self checkout or the staff one please?

        • +4

Try buying the gift card with a banana, then paying with a coles gift card. worked for me

        • +3

@leeroys_dad: "Try buying the gift card with a banana". How many bananas for a gift card??

        • @Peck: a handfull.

        • @leeroys_dad: the system always works but staff will not allow you to pay with gift card. It is not the system problem.

        • @leeroys_dad: im after $200 of bunnings gift cards what amounts do they come in?

        • +1

          @bwatt72:

They only come in $500 and $1000

        • +2

          @tith:

Looks like bunnings gift cards is no good to me then seems extreme amounts for gift cards compared to others??

        • +1

          @bwatt72: I saw Bunnings gift cards in $10 $20 $50 and $100 denomination at Coles, never seen $500 or $1,000 denomination. 😉

        • @O O:
Thanks my only concern is being stuck with coles egift card of 200 as i never really shop there.
Im after some discounted on bunnings gift cards of 200 but im wondering if its even worth the risk or hassle.

        • +1

          @leeroys_dad:
Of all thigs why a banana lol.

        • @bwatt72:

          Maybe he/she likes bananas

  • Looks like you are limited to using 8 per transaction, though the T&Cs also advise that 8 includes discount codes. Anyone have any experience with that?
Though the offer only applied once per flybuys card. :(

    • +2

I've used 9 ebay giftcards with a discount code before.

    • +2

Though the offer only applied once per flybuys card

Once per flybuys household e.g. if you have four cards under the one account, you can only get the bonus points once

  • Can the eBay gift card be used over several purchases?

    • +1

      Yes, you can. 😊

    • -1

Yes. 12 month expiry on remaining credit.

But it seems better to buy eBay gift cards with Wish (Woolworths) gift cards that you paid 95% face value for at Cashrewards to me … same with others presumably.

      • $50 ebay + 2000 Flybuys points ($10 value?)
        For either
$50 or maybe under $48 of discounted Coles egift cards

      • This effectively costs you $40 for $50 card

Woolworths cost you $47.5 for a $50 card

        How is woolworths better?

        • +3

@Diji1: great logic. Don't buy the gift card and you don't lose anything
