  • Any ‭idea if Opal recharge payment can be done by using BPme app?

    • No; petrol only

      • -2

It doesn't say that in tcs

        • Where does it say in the terms and conditions that you can use the BP Me App to top up your Opal card and be eligible for the credit? Or more importantly, where in the BP Me app does one top up their Opal card? (Or MetroCard for the Adelaide equivalent)

        • @kerfuffle: fair call.. never used the app. Just know the t&cs have no exclusions. Do you know if the app works on all petrol, lpg, diesel pumps..or can you not select those pumps in the app?

        • @tunzafun001: No idea off the top my head, sorry.

  • Link is not working

  • Still no good for gas?

    • +1

Curious to know the answer to this. Was LPG previously not an option?

  • +3

Anyone getting error from bpme apps ? Ooops unknown error ?

    • Yes; can't even select my pump number …

  • +2

Just a reminder for anyone using the app make sure to select the bowser first before filling up. It doesn't support paying after. Unless they've updated it recently.

    • last time it didn't support 'filling up twice' either
eg spend $40 with one card, then fill up again while you're on the same spot.
The app just crashed without explanation
this was on a Note 3

      • Worked fine on the iphone. The guy at the counter looked rather confused when I did it.

      • It definitely worked last time as I filled up three times at the same bowser. I do agree that the app is flakey though.

    • The app and its it system are just broken. App freeze for unkown reasons while the system was sometime was down. Last time the promo run I went through 2 servos to be told it not working.

    • Yeah, I did the same mistake yesterday :(

  • Will there be any surcharge for paying by AMEX cos my local BP charges a hefty surcharge on AMEX.

    • +4

No, as you pay through the app (used it in the previous two Amex offers)

      • I've noticed the ones that have an AMEX surcharge don't support BPMe anyway.

    • That's odd. I have yet to find a BP that has a surcharge on Amex.

      • In my experience, some do, some don't. Obviously only fill up at the ones that don't surcharge haha

  • Sweet deal. Works on cards which have used this offer previously too!

  • Thanks OP. Saved it to all my primary and supp cards.

  • Thanks OP saved to my 3 cards

Stack with Velocity bonus offer? Can you add your velocity number to the transaction?

      • how to add velocity to the app? not sure where the option is

      • +1

Are you sure. Didn’t think that option was available yet.

      • +3

You can't add your Velocity membership number to the BP Me app, nor can you swipe in store and pay with the app.

      • +4

The whole point of the app is that you don't go into the store.

It'd be good if they sorted the issue of not getting points for using the app though.

      • +2

Why are you making things up?

      • -4

I didn’t say you can swipe and use the BPme app at the same time…It’s one or the other obviously. Not my fault you misread the word ‘or’.

Also I could have sworn I added my velocity number to the app but now I can’t find it. Possibly just thought so because they said they were going to add it later.

    • +4

I actually emailed them after I filled up using the app the last time and they've systematically denied the possibility of getting velocity points while using the bpme app.

I use bp to extend my points expiry but unfortunately you can't use the app and velocity together.

    • +1

      https://www.bp.com/en_au/australia/products-services/bpme/fa…

Can I claim Velocity points with BPme?
BPme is currently only available to purchase fuel; however, you can continue to use your Velocity Frequent Flyer card in-store to earn and redeem points on purchases at BP.

As Australia’s first mobile fuel payment app, we are committed to evolving and improving the BPme app both now and in the future. New features and functionality for BPme will be made available as soon as possible and we hope you can enjoy the benefits.

  • +1

Is this available in SA? Seem all the BP using on the run app

    • Edwardstown and Crafers work from a quick look

      • And Westlake as well.

      • Any way too find which BP's support this without installing the app?

Looking for: Kurralta Pk, Henley Beach, Whyalla?

        • There is one at the corner of South Rd and Henley Beach Rd, none in Whyalla though

        • @birdnw: BP connect 66 Brighton Rd Glenelg… anyone tried this?

        • @birdnw: also, 843 Marion Rd Mitchell Park
          62 Daws Rd Edwardstown

        • @birdnw: Cheers!

    • Many OTR stations are showing up in the BPME App…does this mean can pay using the app at OTR stations?

      • No - not by default I have had 2 failed attempts. Both BP OTR's (Port Road, Welland Plaza and Port Road, Krispy Kreme) not supported. This is hard work in SA

  • -1

Anyone aware of whether this works if signing up or paying with PayPal?

    • +2

I suspect not, as the biller will be PayPal, not BP.

    • +1

No. Only works when card is used directly with the app.

    • +1

No, you have to put the cards in the app and pay with the direct cards.

  • Legend, thanks OP!

  • Pay with app, fill up, then just drive off.. I'm a bit worried if anyone gonna think I'm doing a runner…

    • +2

No need to worry have used the app over 5 times without a problem. I usually give the counter guy a thumbs up to check if everything is ok before driving off.

      • +15

Maybe they should put the "thumbs up" in their step by step tutorial

        1. Pay via app
        2. Fill up
        3. Thumbs up to the counter person, and perhaps to the people around who might look at you suspiciously
        4. Go
    • +5

first time when i used the app, I was not sure what to do and filled the car first and went into the car and opened the app to make payment. that was wrong. the attendant came from his counter to my car to check what i was doing.

so u're meant to open the app while in your car, activate the fuel pump via app, get out of car and go fill her up, go back into the car, open the app and proceed with payment, and done.

  • Got it thanks!

  • +9

Last time I filled up my car and drove off but forgot to open my BP app.

    • +1

i did that once, but I had selected the pump but it didnt work,
only realised after I got home that my card hadnt been charged

so far im not on the FBIs most wanted…as far as Im aware

    • did you at least go back to the station and pay them?

      • +2

Yes. I went back as soon as I found I did not pay at the station.

  • This reminds me…need a couple of amex cards before shop small starts!

    • Vogue Fashion Night Out is coming up soon too in a few weeks!

  • -4

Sweet. Saved to all 11 cards. =)

    • +2

Thanks for your upvo… hang on.

  • +4

I've spent 3 minutes on their app and already want to delete this app on my phone. Must.. resist.. At this point they're paying us to use their shitty app.

  • Hi All,

So are these the steps to do it without getting weird looks by the staff?

Open app in car, select the BO station location and select pump number? Then pay?

Then fill up and then leave?

    Thanks,
    K.

    • +15

      Here is what to expect:
      1. Park at pump which will have signs everywhere saying it has BPme available.
      2. While in car, turn on app and allow it to GPS find your location
      3. Verify the petrol station you are at (ie click on app)
      4. Verify the pump NUMBER you are at (basially look at the pump and make sure you choose the right one)
      5. Wait a few seconds while the app connects to the BPme app backend and a message will appear saying you can now proceed to use the pump
      6. [Optional] At the pump, press the pre-set amount buttons to only give me $40 worth of fuel (as I have multiple Amex cards and I like my Velocity points so I try to mimimise the loss)
      7. Fill up car to whatever amount you want and then put pump back in the bowser
      8. Get back in car (if done) and you will see that it has been charged to your nominated card
      9. [Optional] Rinse and repeat for the next Amex card

  • +4

Love the deal, hate the app. The app, and even the idea of it is just too “try hard in adding tech to everything”

    • +4

      yeah, its so damn clunky,
you got to be close to the station to activate it (texting while driving)
once you get in to the station, it searchs your nearest one, works most of the time, sometimes it says cannot find even though you are in a station
takes a few seconds to detect
takes a few seconds to ackwoneldge pump number
after youve filled up, you sit there wondering, how long it takes because the app says dont leave
      takes a while to process
drive off once its done, feel like youve acheived something in your life, because the app actually worked and the petrol attendant is running after you with a broom

2nd worse app by a large corporateion after Mcdonalds

      • +1

the petrol attendant is running after you with a broom

Lol and if you are in the crowded servo and people are waiting behind you - they will be like OMG - The car in front of me just did a runner :D

      • +2

As much as Maccas app has sucked, and I hate needing to update it every second day. I rate this app below maccas

I also find it literally takes a few minutes longer to fill up this way than the old fashion way. The worse is if you have a car waiting behind, and you have finished filling up but can’t leave until it recognises the pump is on the bowser and you’ve paid. Whilst the guy in the car waiting for you probably thinks ur some retard just standing there.

  • +4

    BPme. No thanks. CBF

    • +2

Dealing with a terrible app and possible letters from the police for non payment of petrol to save $20. Agreed with the CBF.

      • +5

        That's just being paranoid.
You will get an invoice emailed to you instantly once you've activated your pump using the app, filled up and placed the pump back.

On the other hand, you can also email [email protected] for the latest in keeping yourself safe.

        • now tempted to register feelingparanoid.com.au

        • +1

The police comment was based off the link posted above - https://www.businessinsider.com.au/bpme-app-police-investiga…

And the terrible app comment, well, that was based off multiple posters above.

I think the guy in that link was obviously very unlucky and there is probably no chance of that happening to most people, but the time involved in setting this app up and registering, stuffing about trying to use it, and then working out how to cancel it later on down the track certainly seems pretty concrete. For a completely free tank of petrol I'd consider it, but for $20? CBF.

That said, in the time Ive just taken to write this reply I may well have been able to set the app up and save myself $20. Damn, might be time to rethink my priorities…..:)

  • Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP

  • doesn't work with my (soon to be gone anyway) CBA-issued AMEX

    • +2

Worked with mine about 10 minutes ago.

    • +2

      it worked for me too…

    • Works fine.

    • My CBA-issued AMEX didn’t work either, says invalid card number.

  • Bp fuel price is always higher than other stations. Is this deal makes it better than other's offer?

    • +1

I guess so, specially if you are filling only $40 worth and getting $10 back. They are expensive but less than Coles Express most times.

    • +1

True in many cases but seems Coles are sometimes even higher :(
I do prefer to fuel in 7-11 (Mobil) these days

    • +4

Yes, this deal effectively brings the price down by 25%. As long as the price is less than 33% more expensive than your locally available price (including 7 Eleven nationally), then this would be the best.

    • I prefer their high octane petrol to other brands as it seems to make the engine runs smoother. But sonw people have argued and alleged that all the brands are sourced from the same supplier. Still, there are others that shared my experience.

    • Add to the problem: The stations in my area that have lower fuel prices do not allow BPme app!

    • +1

I've got 3 BP's around my home that are usually the cheapest of the major outlets and a 4th that is cheaper half the time so it really depends on your local BP.

  • other bank issued amex work as well?

    • CBA and the AMEX sourced Westpac work. Not sure what other AU banks have links to Amex anymore.

  • +1

excellent! i see $10 x 4 fuel savings using 2 amex cards in the next 4 weeks :). thx OP.

  • time to reinstall the app, thanks OP

  • Slightly off topic but what is the best Amex card to get nowadays? Preferably with low/no fees.

    • +2

      Amex platinum edge

    • +1

If you travel a couple of times a year, the Explorer is pretty good value because you can spend the $400 annual fee on flights, hotels or car hire, and it has comprehensive travel insurance and comes with 2 lounge passes per calendar year.
