Cue the comments about comparisons to wash'n'wax products in 3…2…1…

3 negs for that? Didnt know Meguiars fans are so fragile

Ha! There must be people busting to ask the question. It happens EVERY time!

  • Any one with experience using the clay bar mentioned? I was interested in it and did a comparison on aliexpress… Clay bars are just just $5 from aliexpress!

    Any advice?

This kit includes two 100g clay bars, instant detailer (lubricant), and what appears to be a microfibre cloth.

I know this is OzBargain and all, but why would to skimp to save a few bucks for something you will use on a vehicle worth thousands of dollars??

      • Few dollars?? It’s nearly a $35 difference!

My point is, why spend more if it yields the same results mate?

        • I stick by my comment/question - you'd sweat a $30 saving over potentially ruining your car's paintwork which would probably cost $'000s to fix?

The AliExpress product may do the exact same job, they may well the exact same product in some cases. However I can't comment on that for aforementioned reason - lol. A quick Google shows a few good stories and a few bad stories on the AliExpress clays.

I can comment on Meguiar's, Mother's, and Chemical Brothers clays as I've done plenty of cars with these and never had a problem.

My advice - which is what you asked for - is to stick with a known product and not risk it.

      • Just have a look at all the cheap lightning cable deals… LoL

  • Am i missing something, coming up as full price for me.

    • It starts on Wednesday 24/10. You can see it in the header and under the deal description also.

      TOMORROW Meguiar's Gold Class Car

      24 Oct–4 Nov Tomorrow

  • So i'm considering stripping the wax from last wash of the car, washing it, clay barring and resealing. Does anyone know if the gold class can strip wax and grease? Or will i have to use dish soap or something gross? Can anyone suggest a good wax? Ta.

Both gold class and dish soap won't strip the wax. You'll need to use a mixture of IPA and distilled water or "Car Pro Eraser". Claying it should strip the wax but you shouldn't be claying every time you wash your car. If you clay it all the time you'll likely cause holograms on your paint and will need to polish it out with a DA.

Collinite 845 is a good wax, however, I would suggest going with a synthetic sealant for longevity. Waxes usually only last a few weeks but sealants can last you 6 months give or take. A few good sealants are "Menzerna Powerlock" and "Carpro Reload." I personally use carpro reload on top of my ceramic coating because its just a spray and wipe and is a lot easier.

Ta i'll check it out. Yeah have never clayed this car since taking delivery a few months back and have done a few big trips so it is probably worth doing.

Next time you wash your car, run your hand over the panel.

If you feel "grit" or it feels kinda "sandy" it will need to be clayed.

If its as smooth as glass - you do not need to clay your paint.

Lots of info re clay barring on youtube and the like.

        • No worries. If you want to research more about autodetailing, go to the autodetailing subreddit on Reddit or AmmoNYC on youtube.
