HISTORY

Tarocash was founded in 1987 by brothers Stephen and Michael Leibowitz, who brought with them a family heritage of menswear retailing from South Africa.

They began supplying menswear to retail outlets across Australia and quickly realised that Australian men were in desperate need of their own coordinated range of smart-casual clothing. By 1991 they had opened 5 stores.

Today, Tarocash has grown into one of Australia’s most successful menswear retailers, with over 115 stores across Australia and New Zealand with additional stockists throughout the region. The original philosophy of providing outstanding service remains. To its customers, Tarocash stands for quality and fashionable menswear. Each season, Tarocash delivers trends tailored to its customers, and prides itself in offering a broader range of sizes for the perfect fit, each time, every occasion, for every man.

Genuine leather isn't as it sounds.

I had a belt from tarocash… Terrible terrible quality. Worst I've ever owned

    • +2

      bonded leather

    • so, which belts are good?

    • +5

Not surprising, genuine leather is the second worst grade of leather.

      • Apparently that whole grades of leather thing that's been going around is BS.

"First of all lets get this out of the way, although you might see this system compared to the way the USDA Grades beef (prime, choice, select) or some other official tiered system, this is not true.

You will not find this list of “grades” in use by any major tannery, leather trade organization or government entity."

    • Yeah, if these last 3 months. I'll be stoked. Worth it for $7… I bought an italian leather belt in rome, it lasted 6 months. Haven't really had a belt last more than a year.

    • the best leather belt ive ever owned was bought from my local markets from a leather smith. had it for years now & its only gotten better with time.

    • +1

What are you guys doing with your belts that they're lasting so little. I've had the same "leather" belt from Vietnam for the past 5 years, and it's still going strong, and I wear it everyday

      • Obviously yours was a better one.

      • Cane type for belt?

  • +1

Got extra 20% off so paid only 5.6 each

    • how'd you manage that?

      • I bought a shirt earlier today and signed up so I received a coupon 20% off from them

        • Ah right, is it a targeted coupon or generic?

          • @inasero: It's a targeted coupon

            • +1

@Twocents: If you go to the site via a pc with privacy mode on, after 15 seconds you get a popup about joining the mailing list and getting 20% off - you get the mailing list email but no 20% code… That would have been a better bargain

              • @PerthectDeal: Hi mate, just logged in to say thank you, also put couple up-votes. Used your tip, saved 20%. I had to contact Tarocash (was redirected via their Facebook page, so I used my 'for commercial use only' FB account), sent them instant message. Surprisingly, someone actually responded within an hour, told me their online has been overwhelmed with sign-ups, etc. But the CSR immediately provided me a promo code which I used instantly. Maybe I wouldn't to waste time on this route, but I've been desk-bound this morning on other issues anyway. So, got 3 polo shirts for pick-up locally at under $16.50, let's just hope they don't out-of-stock them :).
So all in all, another great experience of being regular OzB-er.
                Cheers everyone.

        • what's the discount code?I signed up but no code received.dann

Bought a tarocash shirt and it faded a ton after a single wash… wouldnt buy again

    • +2

After a single wash? I find it hard to believe to be honest.

    • +8

Knowing tarotrash they'll probably try and pass it off as a deliberate design.

"nah bro that's our two tone shirt" "we designed it that way so the girls think you're wearing a different shirt to the club everytime bro"

  • $7 for a belt. Worth a try. Nabbed 2

  • Actually I really want to find a cheap 'train trck' style belt - any ideas? (the one that is like a sliding scale)

I bought one from those cheap tables in a plaza one for $10 - I liked it but its falling apart now lol. I dont mind the style but dont know what it is called!

  • +5

I've had belts that quickly shed the outside skin and now I only buy one-piece leather belts as opposed to ones that are glued together and coated in a thin leather skin.

    • +3

      bonded leather should be illegal

      • This. 100% this.

        It only looks good once.

  • +8

Bought a whole outfit from Tarocash once and the magistrate still gave me 10 years.

    Media Article

  • That 6.99 black cutout reversible belt is pretty woeful. Iv had it for 4 months now and the synthetic cover lining the belt is peeling off.

  • +4

Why so many up vote for these fake leathers?

    • what else do you expect at a price like this?

  • Why the name Tarocash?

    • Because the owner love watching "Tango and Cash"

  • +3

If anyone has a lead on a decent black business belt in full grain leather that doesn't look like a strap of tyre rubber, in size: sedentary, I'm all ears. The last $70 belt I bought has lasted 6 months max.

    • +1

It's bloody hard to find. The Belt Man goes alright, I have a brown one from him. Much more solid than any other belt I've bought.

  • Bought the most amazing, durable Pierre Cardin belt when travelling to Singapore 5 years ago, and it's still holding strong, just slightly scuffed. Great brand.

  • Can anyone tell me how wide the belts are? I'm looking for something that approx 3.5-4cm (1.5") wide.

  • Excellent, ill need a Tarocash belt for my one punch assault court case i have coming up.

    • Don't forget your white square toed shoes, bro. Good luck in court!

  • Every belt i’ve had crack and peel pretty soon after getting them. Spent $70 on a Myer belt thinking it would last. It did not. It does have a little work to do however…

    • The belts at Uniqlo are actually not too bad for ~$40-50.

Best thing to do is to get two and use them on rotation.

      • I like to run 1:1 belt, pant ratio. Need to replace a few tho.

  • 'Genuine' in this context doesn't mean authentic - it's a grade of leather and genuine is one of the lowest grades. Tarocash's belts are bonded (glued together) and are pretty shitty from a longevity point of view.

  • +1

    +4 Strength
    +4 Stamina

  • does anyone know if they are the same quality as the ones from connor or YD? they look similar.

    • From memory, all three shops owned by same company.

  • These are for the 'everyday man'. That's me out.

  • tarocash Parramatta store no longer there - not surprised given the staff all on their phones last time I dropped in…

  • Bought genuine leather belt or so called from overseas (Pakistan) leather market. Costed me equivalent $40 but still going strong, looks great even after 4 years wearing 5 days a week. Two sided, can be used as brown or black.

  • +3

Just in time for the court case next week!

  • When it said limited sizes I thought it would have meant 28 inch or 48 inch waist remaining.

Imagine my surprise when 32 34 and 36 where all still available.

  • +1

I've worn the same full grain leather belt with my jeans for the past 15+ years. Still looks great after a polish up. Only thing that makes me think about replacing it is that it seems to have shrunk a few notches in that time… :P
