Brother HL-2270DW Wireless Laser Printer - $139 @ Global (QLD)
This was posted 2 years 1 month 28 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal

First time poster, long time lurker :)
I guess the real bargain is Global who have it for $139
Global Link - http://www.globalgroup.com.au/gloshop/customer/product.php?p...
Just got a pricematch for this awesome little laser printer at Officeworks Underwood, QLD. Their current sale price is $167 (RRP is $199), but I got them to pricematch Global Computer Group in Brisbane who have it listed @ $139. With pricematch bonus the total was a cool $132.05
Printer is super easy to configure for Wireless or regular LAN, and of course has USB. Another bonus is a built in Duplexer - all in all a great little unit!

Mod: Price matching is not a bargain, hence:
- changed URL, title, and description to highlight offer from globalgroup
- copy of receipt from OP, in case if anyone wants to try their luck at price matching from OW: http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/03/26/5613_2270dw.jpg

Read the voting guidelines, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines:
- Pricing is always subjective. A $1 off a $500 item isn’t much of a bargain, but on a $3 item it is. But then again to some a $3 item is junk so anything off isn’t a bargain. So really negative votes purely based on pricing requires caution. Are you imposing your set of values on another in the community?
Examples of negative Votes that MAY be removed by a Mod:
- Not a bargain.
It might not be a bargain to you, but the deal not being a bargain doesn't warrant a neg according to the voting guidelines. I suggest you might want to read up on it before going all crazy.
It also certainly doesn't deserve to be reported.
+4 votesnot a bargain because of reasons listed
1. as op says global group has no stock!!!
2. as issh linked to mods have determines price match is not a bargain!!
3. this is a one off deal!
4. not the cheapest penta is $130price had nothing to do with it!
you should read reasons as well as listing guidlines - report stands
+4 votesthebargainhunter on 27/03/2011 - 12:37 ¶- Learn to read "Global did have stock at the time of purchase"
- $139 from Global (CHEAPEST IN QLD) is not one off
- Penta adds postage = price fail in QLD
- Calm down mate
+3 votesPerhaps the title should be changed to something like
"Brother 2270DW Wireless Laser Printer- $139 Global Group QLD"
Then stating a further 5% reduction by price matching at Officeworks.
From what Ive seen from other post, price matching isnt a real bargain as its not guaranteed, and the forum would be flooded with these price matching post if it was allowed. In addition, if Global Group has no stock, wouldnt the chances of even getting a price match at OW be less? assuming they will call up GG…

Don't buy from PENTA, unless you KNOW they have the item in stock.
And you are able to visit shop and pay cash and carry.
Never use Credit Card with them!
Otherwise, you risk wasting time and money and Credit Card fraud.

+2 votesI'm saying for people who can't get to global but wants this printer price matching at Officeworks is fair enough. Learn to read.
Unlike you, I don't look a gift horse in the mouth when someone posts a good deal. What is amazing is that not only did you not thank the OP for posting the deal but you negged and reported him.

-2 votesSee below posting about change in guidelines such that mods no longer remove negative votes like this that are outside the guidelines. Under the new system we all have to vote neg on the comment itself in order for the neg vote to be removed.
This negative vote should be removed because it falsely states there is "no stock". (Sorry Housecat - I think you misread something of the OP's. Also you may be able to revoke your vote yourself - or ask mods to remove it for you if you can't.) Cheers

So why wouldn't Housecat want his neg vote to be removed?
After all:-
- OP is a first-time poster;
- Guidelines make no mention whatsoever of price-match - this is only clarified in postings deep within the forums - first time posters can't be expected to know this;
- Housecat did make a mistake is stating item out of stock
- Housecat's other reason was duplicating neg reason previously stated in a neg given by their buddy Aussman and the guidelines do state that repeating previously stated reasons is invalid justification of a neg;
- Mod's have now reformatted OP's posting - to make it compliant - so reason for neg no longer exists and it can thus be removed;I'm working out of two concerns here:-
- how the OzB community treats a first time poster;
- if inappropriate negs aren't removed then later viewers may miss out on seeing a bargain that could be of interest to them.
Don't worry, we trest first time posters kindly:

- how the OzB community treats a first time poster
They should be treated like everyone else. We vote based on the deal not on the person. Do you think we should always + vote their deal because it's their first post?
According to the mods, price-matching isn't a deal, so instead of telling the OP that they shouldn't post a pricematch, you're arguing with everyone that they should not neg.

Hey tomsco - I'm upset you forgot about my first time post
+3 votesthebargainhunter on 27/03/2011 - 13:06 ¶EVERYBODY PLEASE READ - I stated that Global DID HAVE STOCK at time of purchase - i.e. I could just have easily bought from them but wanted the extra 5% off. Sheesh!
+1 voteVery clear to me. Serious need for chill pills today. Very nice to see the neg votes have been removed.
Again well done OP. Ignore the BS-merchants here and keep on with future postings. I'm sorry to see this one has been met with such crap. Not the way you would expect people to treat first-time posters.
+1 voteI think the problem is the title, which is reflecting the price you got via price matching, which from my understanding, isnt a 'bargain'.
Perhaps the $139 deal from Global Group is (idk about the retail price), thus the title should be changed to reflect that deal, and added in the description that it can be further reduced via price matching at OW.Indeed thanks for posting and welcome to the forum.
+2 votes"Negative votes do have an impact - new members tend to shy away fearing that their deals may not be good enough. Let the lack of positive votes tell them what appeals without, jumping on them. Also your opinion on what makes a good deal may not fit with the others here, a little encouragement goes a long way to building the information network this site is all about."

Not even a bargain, other stores have have it cheaper, http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Brother+227...
+1 voteI'm a little confused by both of your comments here…
Doesn't the OP make it clear in the title that the bargain is for QLD? I think that means their price of $132 is the lowest there. Or did I get something wrong? Where could they or other OzBers in QLD have bought it cheaper than $132?
-1 voteInteresting this recent change in the OzB voting guidelines that I wasn't aware of! FYI those who voted positive on this bargain posting:-
= = = = = = = =
"Current Status of Negative votes March 2011""Currently, negative votes are not being removed by moderators. Community based voting can revoke a negative vote. By voting negative for the first comment by the negative voter, you are contributing to revoking that vote. Once the threshold of negative votes has been reached for the comment, the vote is revoked."
= = = = = = = =
So even if the reason for a negative vote is in part untrue (e.g. "no stock") - the mods won't remove it. It is up to users to vote negative on the comment associated with that negative vote. Nice change.Could a mod please clarify on the meaning of "By voting negative for the first comment by the negative voter". Does 'first' here mean chronologically, or their upper-most comment within the thread?
Also interesting that the voting guidelines contain no mention of "price-matching" nor "price-beating" - which is what has been disputed above. How will new posters be able to post their first bargain without fear of more experienced users "jumping on them"?
+11 votesGreatWhiteHunter on 27/03/2011 - 15:17 ¶I am reporting you to the school principal, my mum and the mods.
Ozbargain is going the way of Whirlpool - way too much moderation.
However with some of the posts here I can see why it is increasingly necessary.
+1 vote+1, you made Lol.
The porblem is not with the moderation. I think the mods in here still discuss moderation issues which they don't in Whirlpool.
The problem here is the rest of us here who like to perform citizen arrests in every thread. I understand why this is happening in this one but we should use some and if a post is helpful to others than we can discuss it rather than stick firmly to the rules.
I still would like to know if I can just show the receipt and get this at office works? :)

+3 votesPrice matching alone should not be posted as a bargain, since the outcome of it may vary from member to member (e.g. stock availability, postage, consistency, etc). I'd say if the original store has a deal good enough to be price-matched from other stores, that the deal from the original store should be posted instead. However, there shouldn't be any issues pointing out in the description that price matching may be available at other stores.
Could a mod please clarify on the meaning of "By voting negative for the first comment by the negative voter". Does 'first' here mean chronologically, or their upper-most comment within the thread?
The first comment would be based on when the time when the comment was submitted, so that would mean chronologically ordered.
+1 voteThanks Pauly for this clarification of new guidelines.
A few comments re price-match:-
- might we expect to see some mention of price-matching and/or price-beating in the guidelines?;
- if it fits I'd suggest adding to the title something like: ($132 via OW price-beat);
- I'd question a little the justification for guideline excluding price-beating in circumstances such as this one given that the OP has sought price-beat (a) at a national retailer with large number of outlets, and (b) on a product that is listed in their current sales catalogue - so there can be reasonable expectation of stock being available at a large number of stores.
+1 voteSorry - I actually hadn't seen the guidelines on "Current status of negative votes" before today. My bad!
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines
Says they are new as of March 2011.

+3 votesPricematching is not a bargain in itself. It cant be pricematched without the first bargain. (by definition the bargain must be the best around that then can be price matched leading to an even better price). If it wasn't the best price, then the Supplier who is the best price should be listed, then that listing could also be price matched.
Not to say that a poster or someone else cant point it out that you can price match this as its a product that a pricematcher carries.
As for reporting, this is NOT a school, it doesn't go against you if someone reports something. By reporting then mods can look at it and decide.
The fact that its been reported doesn't mean it will be removed etc, all it will mean is mods will look at it, so enough of this BS about reporting being incorrect.
Then also on PMatching, what about someone paying with a points credit card - they get 1% back so reduce the headline price for that etc.
All that said, there also is no need to tell someone you have reported them, let the mods decide, if we dont agree with your report you also wont look foolish.

A reason why this is a good price … this printer features PCL emulation. Therefore the processing is done in the printer rather than on the PC. Less PC load, and less buggier drivers. Also will support a wider range of operating systems as well as future OS's. Most (if not all) laser printers in this price range support GDI (host-based printing) rather than PCL. (see here for more info: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/H/host_based_printer.html ).
+1 votePrice match @ $130 from Office Works:
