  • OP Just a question. Do you know if Myers B&M stores are likely to match the price of the ebay Myer store? thanks

    • +2

      not with ebay discount codes

    • Unfortunately, you cannot price match eBay pricing with discount codes in stores and you cannot use gift cards on eBay purchases either. The $119 pricing is already in stores currently - the extra discount cannot be matched.

      • No what I'm looking at is the Philips Pasta Maker, they have it without discount for $299 on the ebay store but no stock. I was wondering, if I went into the store would they match the $299 price. (Not with the additional ebay discount). Thanks

        • +1

The price in store should be $299 as well if I am not mistaken. The eBay pricing is the exact replica of Myer Online. It seems that the $299 pricing is a catalogue offer. Should be available in Parramatta and Liverpool. There is no mention of it being an online-offer as well. Have a look, and I will also double check for you and get back to you in a few hours if it is $299 in store.

          • +1

@dcep: Either the Online system is shit (which it mostly is) but if you click on 'Find in stores', Liverpool and Parramatta comes up.

            • @Aced21: So do some in Melbourne, I was thinking of dropping by a store and seeing if they have some and if they will match the price. Thanks for checking.

I have the kmart version also selectable temp control $59 ….

big deal in the reviews for the breville was the size of the lid being a bit small, I went with the kmart as bigger lid, but hey, some reviewers get it wrong and probably don't know how to fill a kettle.

  • +2

Terrible reviews for this kettle. Seems to break down …

    • Agree, I had this kettle and it broke. Returned it for another which also broke. Third time I changed to a SunBeam kettle which is working 3+ years on.

      • +3

That is strange. I've never had to do or see a return for this kettle. The ones I mainly see are Sunbeam and Kitchenaid (due to their recall and for the fact it is just crap).

However, this sort of price from this kettle is the best I have seen compared to competitors in a while.

      • How did yours break? We have a similar kettle. It's not the glass version though. We've had issues with the base.

        • +2

It was the base too. It was getting very hot when it hadn't been used for hours. Second one kept blowing the fuse. They tested it at HN, and it blew the fuse in the shop!

          • +1

@UNO: Wow. We haven't experienced those issues. We have spilt water into/onto ours and it would stop working. We dried it out in a ziplock bag with those desiccant packs or whatever that you get with stuff sometimes. Other times it kinda has a mind of it's own. It does work but sometimes it doesn't go the first few times we try to boil water.

This is our third one. First one lasted a long time, many years. Second one the lid mysteriously cracked overnight or something after one day then we swapped it for this current one. We do like the temperature feature. Hard to go to a kettle without it.

      • We love this kettle and have also had two die on us. We still got the same for our third one.

    • +3

I wish i could give this kettle a positive review but I have had 2 of them breaking down after 6-10 month of use each.
The first developed an issue where the lid would pop up while the water was still boiling, a couple of weeks later the lid wouldn't stay closed.
I got a replacement unit that lasted a bit longer, but this time the whole handle came off…I almost burned myself and my 5 year old son.
Also the water spout is not pouring the water smoothly.
We have replaced it with a Smeg one and it looks like the smeg one will last longer
      Breville:
+ Transparent design, easy to check if there is not water, elegant looks. one touch operation
      - doesn't last long :(
      Smeg
      + better spout water flow
      - heavier, can't tell if kettle is empty or low on water

      • +1

Same - lid issue. Did a search online and apparently it’s happened to quite a few other people too.

      • +1

same issue here, 2 replacements later ended up asking breville to swap it for a different model. wouldnt recommend.

  • .
Thanks….my sis…will be happy when getting it in 12 days time :)

  • +4

Handle busted on ours. On the second one. Does not inspire confidence when $5 kettles last for yonks.

  • I had this one and had lots of issues with the contact pad wearing out and being intermittent. It would beep and go crazy in the night. Gave up and got the Kmart one which hasn’t skipped a beat. That said the content pad and heating module are all made by the same company. The brands just spec the functions and build the glass/ frame around the induction module.

    • beep and go crazy in the night ……..some smart appliances should. be disconnected when not in use as per instructions ….kettles and toasters seem to be the common ones, possibly due to high wattage and possible fire hazard if something goes wrong unattended.

after my smart toaster operated on its own once i always unplug or turn off the power at the power point when not in use …..even says to so in the instruction safety section.

even my smart grinder display mysteriously illuminates sometimes even when i havent pressed any buttons.

seems most common with appliances that have soft touch buttons that don’t need to be pressed hard.

  • This or the xiaomi?

  • Thanks. I’ve been waiting for a good deal on this kettle. Cheapest I’ve seen it!

  • +1

Funny bought this for $49 after price match at jbhifi From a online site 1.5 years ago, this thing died on me after 6 months usage, JBhifi have given me a full refund as they didn’t have stock for that replacement. I think it’s pretty handy with the extra boiling temp setting like green tea or water milk etc, but I tend to only use one setting anyway.

  • I bought 2 of these from TGG 14 months ago. I had read the reviews so was half expecting to make a return but so far no issues with mine or my sister's.

  • Not sure if its refer to the same kettle
But the product review seems to be not too good
    https://www.productreview.com.au/p/breville-smart-pure.html
Many people complain that the lid will pop up during boiling after sometime of use
    (which is a hazard)

    • It’s referring to the same kettle.

  • +1

Surprised so many with problems. Ive been using this for over a year boiling 2-3 sometimes 4 if I forget a day. With no problems.

    • +1

Same. I am surprised people have so many problems. This is my first $100 plus kettle and I have been using it for about a year with no issues.

  • +1

I bought one last year and the handle broke after 10 months. Got a replacement immediately from Bing Lee.
As it is clear, there seems to be some sort of rusting inside - parts of it are brown.
    I wouldn't get this again.

    • +1

It's not rust. It pretty much is scale that happens from boiling lots of water over a period. They happen to all kettles, and worse, harder to identify on non- clear kettles. This is fixed by chopping a lemon into a few pieces and boiling them inside the kettle.

      • I'll give it a go. Thanks!

      • @Aced21: you are tight about the rust/scale part. But Breville does not recommend using lemon or vinegar(which work perfectly fine on 99.999% of the kettles) to remove the scale stains as “it will damage the quiet boil mechanism”. This is what I was told by the Breville support and I was instructed to buy only the Breville descaler.

        • +1

This is what I was told by the Breville support and I was instructed to buy only the Breville descaler

Of course they would, to make more money off you.

    • +1

FWIW my ceramic water filter (no metal parts) gets a brown rusty looking deposit, I think it's in the water.

    • +1

This is because of impurities in your water. It is no fault of the kettle. Any other kettle with glass walls would show the same result.
Just know that this build up is easy to remove if you want. This also shows what didn't make it from your tap to your cup.

  • Thanks OP, just got one :)
