Does anyone know if and how to avail this offer for existing member? Am interested in the $59 annual option
    TIA

    • +7

I'm currently on a monthly plan and the option to go annual seems to show 59.00 a year.

      • Thanks Letrico…I will go check it out.

    • +3

Just swapped over to the annual option. Not sure how I didn't realise it was available but was paying monthly. Thanks!

      • Luckily the pay monthly price was equivalent to annual until now so you didn't lose out.

  • +1

There should be a way to bump an old but soon expiring deal to the front page.

    • +5

Would rather have a new deal at least you know it is active again and can be sorted by date of deal.

        Steamed Hams but OzBargain.

  • +2

Thanks for the repost, checked mine and mine changed to $6.99 per month so swung it over to the $59 annual fee.

  • +6

Hasn't it always been $59 per year? I guess the monthly fee is going to go up by $2 but the yearly fee to remain the same?

    • Seems like it.

  • +55

For anyone on the fence, Amazon prime is awesome! I've used it so much more than the useless ebay plus!!!

    • +4

Also video and music catalogue are really good. TV show Bosch is incredible.

      • +1

This doesn't include full Amazon music does it? Still need to pay extra?

        • Correct. The full Amazon music library is called Amazon music unlimited.

        • "Get instant access to over two million songs ad-free and on-demand, for up to 40 hours per month."

      • Goliath, startup, man in high castle, and many more. More worth it than Netflix

  • So I assume the $59 will be for the first year only, after that ~$85?

    • +6

      You assume … incorrectly.

      • Link/Source? Since the normal price reverts to $6.99 it would be fair to say yearly price will increase as well? I'm subscribed so it'll be great it doesn't increase when I renew.

        • Most services offer a discount for paying a year up front otherwise theres absolutely zero reason to commit to the year unless theres some other sort of signup bonus. The service page would have to list any increase in its terms if the $59 was a promotional offer.

As a member changing from montly to annual now I got the following message

Your Amazon Prime membership continues until cancelled. If you do not wish to continue for $59.00/year, you may cancel anytime by visiting 'Your Account' and adjusting your membership settings.

  • +10

I've enjoyed the AU version Amazon Prime for half a year.
-Free Shipping (literally any amount of purchase)
    -Free Music Streaming
-Free Twitch Prime Loots (if you play games)

Good value for $59 a year. Nice post OP.

      • +10

You do get Amazon Music Streaming? I assume? And that's 40 hour ad free per month.

        • AFAIK it's available to everyone, prime not required. So shouldn't be listed as a benefit.

At least that's how it was a little while ago. I have no interest and haven't used it personally.

          • -1

@justtoreply: Exactly I do not know what the neg for. Prime music vs Paid. Easy to just google.
All the negs are uncalled for

            What I listed are correct.

      • +6

yeah you do get music actually

      • +2

You do get Prime reading though which is quite good, not as good as Kindle Unlimited but still have read 4 books this month from Prime and they've all been great. Overall I think the cost of Prime has been well worth it for myself, and I haven't even used the free shipping with Prime aspect yet.

        • It's for sure better than eBay plus

    • +6

    • +4

People throwing the word "free" around a lot. You're paying for the services, so they're not free at all.

    • +16

Pretty much if you want something from Amazon better have prime.

That's what you're paying for, priority service. Hardly an unusual practice, heaps of other companies offer an expedited process for a cost.

      • -7

Yeah I get that just saying they do deliberately make it slow for regular customers.

I'm fully aware of expedited postage.

However that's the business model to make you pay for it.

I did a comparison myself with non prime and prime purchase.

It is true if you want something it's better to have prime else it can take up to 7 working days

        • +1

I don't know why you'd ever pay for postage on Amazon anyway, you can always sign up for a month of prime, free first time and then ($4.99), soon to be $6.99 and I'm sure that would be cheaper than the postage for one item anyway.

    • +1

If you pay for expedited shipping as free user, pretty sure you get it after two days metro too :)

      • If you don't complain and they will refund postage or similar.

  • +4

Does the yearly cost change after the 31st?

    • No. Just the monthly cost goes up $2. The annual plan works out to $4.92 per month.

      • So really no reason to change to annual for current members, can just wait until next month?

        • From what I can gather so long as you do it prior to your next charge date, when it would then be $6.99 per month. Mine was to expire in 2 days so I upgraded now and got the refund.

        • You would want to change now if you have already made your January payment.

  • +6

Thanks, I was already on the $4.99 but given how much I've used it, I've just switched to annual for $59 :)

  • +3

Can't decide if I should get this or not.
I'll probably score some great bargains but on the other hand I'll probably end up buying heaps on junk I don't need. Is the yearly price going to change after this month?

    • +3

The free shipping makes it worth it very quickly.

Not to mention Prime video and Music.

    • +1

You can always trial for a month and see if you like it.

    • I thought this at first, but I've definitely scooped up some great bargains on stuff that was worth it, especially stuff that I would've originally avoided buying from Amazon US due to shipping costs.

Amazon AU often price-matches the big local stores like Big W, JB, Target etc, so getting stuff delivered at same cost is very handy; even for basic goods like dishwasher tablets :)

      • But 10% GST on all international purchase kills the deal. no?

        • I think GST is already factored in if you purchase via Amazon AU website.

I think they only add GST on at checkout of you purchase via Amazon US.

        • It's already added into the price if you're browsing Amazon AU. Even if you browse the US site it shows you additional import duty/taxes underneath the price.

  • +16

Didn't think I needed Amazon prime, I signed up for the trial intending to cancel afterwards. But now I find it incredibly handy, I agree - way more useful than eBay plus imo.

    • Useful only if you order much stuff online on a regular basis. right? What do you purchase online very regularly?

      • +3

It's everything really, fast 2 day shipping, super simple returns process, quick customer support via online chat or phone, always 5% cashback going on. The way I think about it is that it basically has the same items that eBay has, but it comes faster and there is more support if you need it. Most recently I purchased a birthday present for a mate because I needed it to come fast, the price was almost same as eBay. Have also purchased random household items like toilet paper, wet wipes, cables, switch games etc. There are some items that I buy that I know are definitely cheaper on aliexpress, but aliexpress = 30 day shipping and little support, so usually I am willing to pay the premium and purchase via Amazon.

Every time I want to buy something, I'll usually search on Amazon first, whereas in the past eBay was my goto. That being said, I still use eBay every now and then - but as a regular member (not eBay plus, never continued after the trial).

  • +8

For me, in addition to free shipping locally the best inclusion is the free shipping over $49 from Amazon US. I know, not all of Amazon US is included but I feel the catalogue is increasing.

  • How good is Amazon music compared to google music/Spotify?

    • +1

Not sure exactly but Amazon music claims to have 2 million in its catalogue compared to 10's of millions in Amazon unlimited.

      Source.

    • +2

Not as good, first of all for most of the albums you have to go premium. Second many artists completely missing, one for all Paul Mc Cartney and also Wings

      • In effect all Amazon Prime Music is offering is a sampler. Not much use if you have any of the other music streaming services.

  • Excellent value, just switched my monthly to annual also.

  • My account says "$6.99 starting 28 February 2019", another month left it seems.

    • If you change over now they refund the current credit of $4.99.

      • You mean to the annual?

It also says "Your current membership will continue until 31 January 2019 after which you will be charged $59.00 for a year of Prime" If i ichange over

        • Yes to the annual. Mine is the same and in the box when you click to changeover it states the refund.

          • @cornbeef: hmm I can't see any refund in the box, when i click to change to annual it just says i'll be charged $59 on jan 31

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Mine does the same as @cornbeef but renews in late Feb – maybe your renewal is too soon for a refund.

  • +1

Amazon Photos have unlimited photo uploads. They claim to be cover this under prime subscription, but for some reason it doesn't seem to work. Any idea why?

    • I don't even know this service… I used google photo to archive my photos… if amazon has the similar service I'd like to use as well…

      • They do, and apparently they claim that you can upload unlimited full quality photos

        • +2

Amazon unlimited photos might only be applicable to US Amazon Prime members.

          • @xhanatos: Ah ok. That's sad!

            • @portraitly: Every book listed under 'Prime Reading' says "this content isn't downloadable in your region". Anyone else having the same issue? This is under Prime Reading under the Amazon.com.au domain.

              • @merajaan: I use the prime reading quite a lot and have never seen that.

I just tick the option box on the left for prime only when searching and only see books eligible for prime.

              • @merajaan: I would get in touch with customer service sounds like it is not working properly or you are seeing titles that you shouldn't be.

    • only for the US version of prime at the moment.
The US prime has tonnes more features, but it is also more expensive.

    Timely post - thanks Skinnerr

Last year Amex had a deal to cash back for Amazon membership, effectively reduce the yearly membership to $30!
I bought a lot from amazon au now… very fast delivery!
also kids love amazon video streaming , for a lot of tv shows and movies. if use ios app, I can even download to my ipad / iphone to watch offline!
I also use alexa to listen music now at home…
haven't use the amazon reading a lot, but I should….
    anyway, worth the money

    • I think the Amex rebate has expired now?
So a good time to switch to annual fee?

  • +1

    thanks for the re-post

  • +3

Just tried to cancel my free one month trial but then got offered for one more month for free, surely extended

  • +4

Used Amazon so much this year, whether it may just be a game or bluray I could have gone to JB Hifi to get, just saves me the hour round trip to get something from a shop. Cashbacks also pretty high for amazon too relatively speaking. Give it a shot, there are so many little things I just said why not due to the free delivery. Thanks OP changed to annual.

  • I'm a bit confused. Will I keep my $4.99/month rate as a "legacy rate" or will that go up to $6.99 at my next renewal.

    • Would like to know as well

    • +4

It will go up after 31 Jan

      • That's crap.

        • +1

To be fair they have advertised that this would happen since Prime launched over a year ago, and if you switch to annual it is effectively the same rate as the introductory rate.

      • +1

The bargain if you had AMEX deal before on Amazon. Basically I did the 30 day trial before the the AMEX deal expired to use. Then subscribe one year worth day before AMEX deal finishes. Got the AMEX cashback one year of prime at half price

    • +1

Yes, have paid $4.99 until now, next month raises to $6.99. Apart from free shipping on stuff I could have bought at JB the only really benefit is the early access to Lightning Deals which are once in a blue moon. Tempted to pull the pin on Prime until Black Friday.

Today the majority of items I have in my cart have had massive price increases. They match JB while the sales are on and then seemingly go much higher.

    • -1

      Im also confused

  • -5

    I suggest quitting.

Show them that they can not do whatever they want. Not even letting current users know that the price is going up.
Wow d1ck move, good bye prime

  • thx, just switched over the yearly

  • +6

If this continues, Amazon will soon win over other big retailers. I can see their price is quite competitive. Once they kill all the other big ones like Hardly Normal, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys etc. will they become a monster and start to increase the price of everything since now they are monopoly?

    • +3

Yes. They've clearly demonstrated in the gaming market that they only pricematch, not set good prices to challenge the others.

Justifiable to use them if you're living in a rural area, but otherwise, pretty crappy in the long run.

      • +9

It's a bit sad when you see a sale at Bunnings your first thought is "Aldi must have something out this week."
