  • Thanks OP!
Time to go down and check out the seconds area. :)

First 25000 cards to save the offer.

This is going to get exhausted pretty quick.

Feel bad for WA. This will be gone by the time they wake up.

      • +10

        Feel bad for WA

        I don’t

      • +4

Nope, I woke up and it's not gone.

      • +4

We are not all sleeping at night. Some of us are Ozbargainers.

        Thanks OP. Saved to card.

      • +1

not sure what time the registration closed. but I receive email from AMEX about this and saved it ago about 1 hour ago.

      • +1

        Ahem.

Not all of us sleep, some even contribute. All times pictured are WA time. https://i.imgur.com/1AJnFvJ.jpg
I appreciate that you're thinking of us though southeasternculture.

ikea accepting amex….what a time to be alive! \o/

    • +7

Yeah. Used to kill me having to use other cards cos they wouldn't accept AMEX. The bills would be for over a thousand bucks and we wouldn't even earn points!
This is great. Too bad it was after AMEX devaluation.

      • 4 days to go before the deval.

  • +15

Woohoo I'm going to get $150 worth of Swedish meatballs!!

  • Dammit, a few weeks after we cancelled our Amex.

  • +6

    Thanks OP.

Also for those who aren't Ikea Family members (loyalty programme), this should stack with the $10 bonus you get for joining plus the 'spend $100 in a quarter and recieve a $10 reward via email'.

To get the $30 back from Amex and use the $10 welcome bonus I'd say you'd need to spend $160 in 1 transaction.

    From the Ikea website:

The club that brings your ideas to life
Join our IKEA Family and you’ll be rewarded more than ever

    • $10 reward for new IKEA Family members
    • Spend $100 or more in a quarter and receive a $10 reward by email
    • Exclusive member prices on a great range of products and meals
    in the IKEA Restaurant
    • Pre-book an extra 30 minutes weekday playtime in Småland
    • Home and assembly assurance
    • 3 year extended returns policy
    • Invitations to workshop and events

  • +1

Ikea accepting Amex. Big boost to velocity points!!

    • +2

Until Monday when you earn 0.25 points less

      • +2

At least something is better than nothing I guess

      • Is anyone on velocity platinum card getting to keep their valuation by calling up, people have said they have called up to keep the valuation just not sure what card it relates to ..

      • Anyone going to cancel the amex as after this happens (or should I say not renew).

  • I bought and assembled a wardrobe last week, will it be possible to buy the same wardrobe with the amex offer and refund it using last week receipt?

    • +3

Don't see why not; just make sure the product codes match on the box and your receipt

      • Great, thanks for your help.

    • +1

It takes few days for the spending from pending to confirm state. That's when they will validate the purchase against the card offer. That means if your last spending haven't confirm yet, you still can get the benefit of this offer.
(usually it takes 3-4 days from pending to confirm, so yes, you can spend first and add the Amex offer later)

      • +2

i dont think thats how it works mate…Once confirmed, your payment is still registered back to the original purchase….how wrong and confusing our statements would be if otherwise.

        • -1

From the personal experience, I had done this once before. I shop first then 2 days later add deal to my Amex, still get the $5 back.

more about the Woolworth deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/432650

          • @vigermam: Sometimes you'll get lucky and it works. I wouldn't count on it though.

  • +3

Does IKEA allow split payments in-store?

    • +2

      Yes have done it before

    • If staff are difficult, buy $150 gift cards then pay for your stuff

      • Smart! I wondered if giftcard is excluded from eligible purchase but apparently its not mentioned in T&C

        • +2

Per many other amex statement credit deals, Amex are unable to differentiate between the purchase of goods/services vs gift cards

  • +2

Hey Dana, I amex epting this offer, you should too.

    • +4

Did you get Ozbargain Premium too with the comment to email integration?

    • +2

I'm really glad they're engaged (married?) now

  • works for IKEA gift card?

    • +2

      Yep

      • -1

can you use this offer to buy ikea gift card online?

  • Thanks op

  • -5

Got it on all my 5 cards, cheers

    • Only got it on 2 of mine.

  • Error: system not responding at this time

  • +1

Wasn't showing up in my list of available offers, but when I followed the link above from forumninja I was able to register for it. Thanks!

  • do ikea gift cards have an expiry ? can you use gift cards to pay for food in restaurant and for a hotdog?

    • Online, shows 3 years. Can you purchase Ikea gc instore?

      • Yes; not sure if it's still the case but they didn't have an expiry date when I bought one a few years ago

  • Thanks OP! Managed to snag the offer on my AMEX card :D

  • AmEx Statement Credits

So what's the other credit besides IKEA?

    • I had an offer for Bobbi Brown.
Turns out it's not the ex Mr Whitney Houston though, so disappointed again.

  • Will this work on giftcards?

    • +1

Someone has to try and post here

  • I thought IKEA doesn't take AMEX.

    • +2

IKEA and Chemist Warehouse have started taking AMEX

      • CW too??

      • -3

        Great.

I registered all my 3 cards. But I'm not sure if I will use it ^oo^.

        • Buy Gift cards, then sell them.

      • Chemist Warehouse in store? I really wanna believe that!

        • +1

          Yes in store.

    • +1

They didn’t, but now they do, hence this offer

  • Darn Instore only

  • +1

expecting people to sell Ikea gift cards in the classified for around 10-15% off

  • It looks like it's only valid at the following stores?

    IKEA
    634-726 PRINCES HIGHWAY
    TEMPE
    2044

    IKEA
    634-726 PRINCES HIGHWAY
    TEMPE
    2044

    IKEA
    RHODES WATERSIDE S/C
    RHODES
    2138

    IKEA
    1 HOLLINSWORTH ROAD
    MARSDEN PARK
    2765

    • thats great, they are the only ones i ever been too.

    • It could just be showing you your local IKEA's. My app shows my 2 closest

    • Excludes transactions where you do not spend directly with your Card to which the offer is saved, in-store at IKEA. Offer valid at Australian locations only. Excludes online purchases.

      • I'm in Qld, so they're not near me.

I've spoken to AMEX on chat and it's only the three (Tempe, Rhodes, Marsden Park). I tried to argue that the T&Cs didn't match the offer, but she said that if she could only see those three (four), that's all there was on offer.

        • It doesn't say on the T&C that it's limited to those 3 stores? Only says not available online, so shouldn't it work for all physical stores in Australia? They've already specifically said only Australian stores.

          • @cantthinkofone: That's what I thought and I tried to argue that point shrugs. For whatever reason, AMEX said it's just NSW.

Lucky there are people above who registered on all three of their cards without thinking they'll use it, so it's too late to register anyway..

            • @chocsyrup: I bet you if you go back to Amex online chat and talk to another rep they'll tell you a different story.

        • Two QLD stores show up for me.

        • I'm in QLD too and the nearest store shows up.

  • +1

    Gone 😢

Unfortunately, the maximum number of Card Members have already enrolled in this offer.

  • Wow gone already. Everyone scrambling to IKEA to buy gift cards

    • +2

Yeah thanks to all the OzBargainers who sign up their multiple cards (just because they can) without any real intention of actually fully utilising the deal!

      • Or tries to sell the offer in the classifieds. Probably not worthwhile this time round given it's $30 not $100+.

      • That's the way… someone who probably signed up 10 cards negs me for my observations (no doubt just to make them feel better about themselves and justify their actions)! :)

How often do you see it on this forum… people who buy multiple items / excess quantity just because it's cheap (not because they actually have a need for that particular product or service)!

  • +1

    No more.

  • +1

2600x clicked so apparently ozb has 10 amex cards :)

    • Probably more. Wasn't there a bloke with 50?

    • I'm surprised if they really already reached the maximum of 25,000. Where else did people hear about it - did everyone suddenly log in at once?

Was it from an email marketing campaign?

Or did people just see this page and login separately without clicking through?

      • +1

Saw it on OzB first. Then couple of hours later ~ email

      • Many people sign up via the Amex app (if they've been targetted) or via the Amex connect site or via other similar sites to OzB. Plenty of ppl have script bots to auto-sign up their multitude of cards.

  • +1

I only got the email from them an hour ago, clicked and it was gone. :-(

  • is this new? IKEA taking AMEX for all Australian stores?

  • +1

Wow, that went fast! Missed out. Sucks to be in WA and miss out due to time differences.

    • +1

I think it is only valid at the NSW stores anyhow, unless the participation locations are based on where I am located.

      • Yes, it only shows based on your location.

  • Thanks OP got 3 of my cards added.

  • -3

nothing left for wa - sod amex and 2x sod ikea - its a complete stuffup for them

  • -4

    Nice deal.
I will forfeit my sign up of 10 amex cards so more of you can use it.

Not shopping at IKEA anytime soon

  • +6

    HOW
I only just received the AMEX email 2 hours ago but it was posted here 9 hours ago!? Talk about late, registration closed :(

  • Literally bought a bunch of stuff two days ago :(

    • Buy again and return to other card with old receipt.

      • If it's large furniture items, then probably not worth it - transport costs and time.

        • Or just bring the old receipt and just lug the boxes onto a trolley, then immediately return with old receipt

  • -1

Anyone wanna try it online and see if it works?

And I do realise it does say in-store only.

    • +3

Why don't you try it for us?
