Wonder if Mad Mex doing the FREEBIE like last year?

    Sweet.

  • Ah, the nondescript holiday that only a small group of Mexican-Americans bothered celebrating until a beer company decided to popularise it and pretend it was some huge Mexican celebration.

    • It's a bit like De Beers using marketing to create the tradition of giving diamond rings to the bride.

Marketing doesn't work on anybody of course so it never happened.

      • Well, the use of gemstone rings as an engagement token goes back to the Middle Ages (and wedding rings in general back to Ancient Rome). Gimmel rings were common as far back as the 15th and 16th century.

However, De Beers definitely popularised the specific use of diamonds for engagement rings in the early 20th Century, when diamond output surged from their African mines.

So it was partly canny advertising and partly just that there were a lot more diamonds available, so what was once an unobtainable gemstone reserved for the richest people became more commonplace.

It's all about framing my friend, i see it as a wonderful idea that brings people together to drink and be merry!

Also, why not pay attention and celebrate an event that focuses on the neighbours that are often maligned?

    $5 coronas

Coronas are $12 a 6pack atm at Dan's, just sayin.

    • +2

And they're worth a lot less than that. Horrible watery stuff.

If your beer is in a clear bottle, its bad beer.

      • +1

… and I always thought it safe to see what you're about to drink beforehand.

      • If you have to add lime to your beer to give it flavor, its a bad beer.

But dans doesn't sell burritos :(

      • +1

They should given how soggy my last Gyg was.

  • 11 days to go.. ;)

  • +13

considering how small the burritos are, this should be their normal price imo.

    • +3

Most of the filling is rice

  • +2

I bought 6 from memory last year, maybe go 8 this year..

  • over 200 pos votes, yet when they have free burritos it gets maybe 20.

    • +2

    • +5

get a free burrito with the app if you haven't been there before fyi.

  • +1

The cali burritos sound a lot nicer, $7.30 each instead of $14.

  • +2

Got 4 burrito in two separate transactions just then…
The steak and slow cooked beef which are usually 50 cents extra are still 5$

    • Did you just line up twice?

      • Yea I just ordered two for take away after I ate

      • +1

For me, the cashier just told me she'll do it in two transactions.

  • i brought my lunch already….

  • Can the order be done by app?

    • +1

      Nope

  • -5

Biggest and cheaper bargain of the year, please ozbarginers don’t be greedy wth this one and share.

  • +2

    No line world square

    • Really people must be still sleeping from Saturday hangover soccer.

      • It's really really wet and windy here so can imagine most don't want to be queuing up.

Also, I recognise this isn't a popular opinion but GyG really isn't great Mexican food at all. Maybe they are compared to Mad Mex and the likes, but Per Kilo, albeit Colombian, but does better Burritos and Nachos are aren't stingy with toppings.

        • The hell? Per Kilo gave me raw chicken one time. Never going there again.

          • @Mr Bargain Hunter: Really? That seems quite unusual. I've only ever been to the Town Hall one average once a week or two and they've been flawless with everything ordered. Any recommendations for other proper Mexican fast-food places in City?

  • Can I ubereats this?

  • Y u no deriver

  • Just got one Parramatta Westfield. There is a queue but 10/10 for the burrito. They didn't charge 50c extra for slow cooked beef.

  • +3
