Awesome i may have to get another…….

  • +1

Very good tablet for it's value. Usually around $150. Gonna pick one up on Wednesday if they aren't sold out by the time I get there.

  • froyo!………cool might get one for the olds! or wait for the galaxy tab to drop to $299 again…hmmm

    cheers

    • you can install gingerbread on it.

      • +1

do u have the link how to do it? so far optus official website only have the option to upgrade android 2.2 only

        • There's a link further down the post, 2.3 rom is not complete though with quite a few bugs, so you're better off with froyo from optus

  • What state is this for? not seeing it for nsw

  • +24

Just so you all know, all Optus stores will be dropping the price down to $99 come Wednesday as well.

    • sweet as, thanks for letting me know. got a mate works in optus so i might get him to save me one! how did you find this out ?

      • +6

        I work for them :P.

        • Does the Optus store tabs come with the 3gb data and call + sms?

        • +1

Can you give us any heads-up on Optus' plans to discount their Samsung Galaxy Tabs?

    • Hmmm, does that mean there will eventually be a wide spread price drop for the device?

      • I believe so.

To the questions above. Fufufu as far as I'm aware the packing won't be changing and comphelp, haven't heard anything as of yet but we still have some left so possibly.

        • +1

Wait…you kinda lost me there. So the packing won't change means the 3gb net and $25 credit + sms is bundled with the tab everywhere? So the ones being sold by BigW is the exact same as the ones being sold by Optus right?

  • Are they locked to Optus network? Thanks

    • +1

Yes but they are unlocked for free, with a bit of searching here or on whirlpool

      • Thanks Mate

    Good toilet tablet.

    • +5

Jeez - If this qualifies for your toilet, I wonder what else are in your toilet…

    • +8

Most people dont need a tablet for the toilet, although i have heard its getting more common lol

      • +14

Posted from my toilet via iPhone. Isn't the Internet amazing ;)

        • +1

Its the wifis and the geebees

        • There's a staggering number of Australian's being in having their computers infected at the moment, up to 20,000, uh, can regularly be getting infected by these spams, or scams, that come through, the portal.

      • i have been using my iphone for nearly 2 years :P

      • +18

A tablet for the toilet!? I guess people just aren't getting enough fibre these days. Tsk tsk!

  • +3

Ouch ! Can I neg this 'coz I paid $149 at Hardly Normal 2 weeks ago ?

    Awesome deal.

    • DOH… I feel better now as I paid $120 at HN today!! Might try HN price guarantee.. I think i know what the reception will be like at HN though… ??? :-(

Impressed with the Optus MyTab V9 though. It might not be the highest specced tablet out there but for the "price" it is fantastic. I have a 4" top of the line android mobile phone and the V9 beats it easily. Love it!

Going to be a line up at Big W on 1/6, they will want to have a heap of them to fill the demand at this price, bloody stupid if they dont…. How would someone go if they went in now and put one on laybuy @ $150 then collected it on 1/6 @ $99???

      • Equally intrigued??

      • wait 4" top of the line? Don't tell me Xperia X10 :/

        • I was thinking Galaxy S?

        • he said

4" top of the line android mobile phone and the V9 beats it easily

X10 was supposed to be top of the line when it came out. It was the only 4" phone at that time.

I don't think V9 can beat the hummingbird CPU

      • Add a few dollars to the cost, ie, for Lay-By service… 10% more…? or maybe $15…? Dunno.

  • If the sale doesnt start until June 1 then they are probably getting a shed load in soon……which for them of course is 4 or 5 a store

    • They are clearing out the last few that haven't sold at $149.

Putting a nice price in a catalogue doesn't mean they actually have any to sell, less that they have any more waiting. It's cheap to sell something you don't have at a bargain price, and gets people into the stores where you can sell them something else for the $99 in their pocket.

Aussie retailers might be bad, but they're not THAT stupid.

  • +2
    • lol, i would rather spend a bit more for the Kawasaki Ninja

Blunty seems to hate the overall experience, I guess WYPIWYG

  • +2

note this one doesn't support the full version of Flash

  • Kogan tablet is also $100

    • Where is it 100 bucks?

    • Its 149 plus shipping and has no 3g built in

      • Starts June 1

  • is it available online?

  • Seems great value

  • +3

Sold…to the man that can't help but buy unnecessary electronic goods and is home on a Friday night on Ozbargain…

Any ideas on how to get this at this price sooner?

    • good review but since this was done they have released a big update which adds some very good features.

      • Do you have a link for the features it has after update?

Does the update also make the tab work smoother? From the reviews I see it get pretty jittery during webpage viewing and scrolling in apps.

        • +1

well the features are the what you get with 2.2, there is a big hacking community with this too. They are currently testing with gingerbread.

        • +1

Been playing with my new V9 for a few hours now and find none of the above to be true. Surprised at how fast and smooth it is actually.

I suppose if you load it with bad apps or some other resource robbing software then it may happen. That theory applies to all digital devices.

Ran a couple of youtube movies over wifi and they were seamless. That can also be affected by the quality and speed of your wifi source.

  • Can this play 720p MKVs without a problem?

    • You can not play 720p due to the CPU

      • Damn, also, this can't be used as a phone can it?

        • +3

I think we buy it not because it's useful, but because it's cheap? :P

        • yes but not the best I would use the hands free set or bluetooth

        • +2

The screen is only 480 pixels high, not much point worrying about 720p. Not much point with most tablets really, you can't see it.

And yes, pair up a bluetooth headset and it will work as a phone.

        • +1

I ask this because I'd prefer not to convert most of the things I watch (because they are mostly in MKV format). Not because I want high definition on a 7" tablet…

        • +5

It comes with a headphone / mic that allows phone use and is also needed for the FM radio.

Great battery BTW… been running everything for hours trying it out, still got hours to go and it was only half charged out of the box.

Satellite GPS works well too.. no need for map data if you get a program like CoPilot Live installed. Voice guided turn by turn as well.

        • +2

you can use as a phone, the mic function is quite clear

      • +4

Actually, you'd be surprised what movies you can just drag & drop onto the ZTE without transcoding, I was quite impressed! ;)

Obviously no really high bitrate stuff, but I've tested low bitrate 720p mkv without issues using moboplayer if you kill all unnecessary apps! :)

        • Great to know, thanks!

        • are u using android 2.2 or 2.3?

        • +1

I've upgraded two units to 2.2 using the Optus/ZTE upgrade tool; it's a breeze to do and makes a huge difference in responsiveness! The unlock posted above works a treat too!

These things are a steal at $99 IMHO! :)

        • have u ever use skype with your optus tab? and can u use video call using this optus tab?

  • +1

Has anyone seen the catalogue this is from, i have looked everywhere online and can't find it, I'm guessing catalogues have not been distributed yet and yikes (OP) is a BigW employee? Wonder if DSE will also drop price to $99? Prefer to purchase from DSE due to their 14 day return policy.

    • +1

If Optus and Big W sell @ $99 then expect it to be market wide just like the $149 deal was.

    • Got my BigW catalogue today. On page 18

    • +1

FYI returns policy doesn't cover change of mind on prepaid phones. Best to get it asap from Optus/Australia Post or whoever is selling it for cheap.

  • +2

awesome, i've been looking for a used one of these for $100 range, this is even better!

comes with 3 Gb of internet too

  • how long does the battery last? and the resolution aint as good as ipad2!

    • +2

I can get two days but I have modified it to lower the cpu when in stand by and yes it is not as good as the ipad2 but then there is the price of the ipad2

  • +2

Okay!! Dam you ozbargain! I was meaning to wait till the end of the year before I buy an anroid tablet. The 299$ galaxy tab nearly had me, but I think this has won me over…

  • +3

If any one wants to install Gingerbread on it.

    http://android.modaco.com/content/other/340064/rom-gingerbre…

    • +1

That is not an official release for MyTab and still has lots of bugs. Most people would be better off ugrading to to the official froyo (2.2) release from Optus. It gives several great extra features such as improved speed, ability to use MyTab as a wifi hotspot, better camera software and interface, supports Microsoft exchange, stream music from your PC, new browser features etc.
      http://www.optus.com.au/mytabupgrade

      • yes and I already posted that, but some people might want a $99 toy to play around with just for fun.

      • +2

I've flashed mine with the gingerbread rom (CyanogenMod7). Waaayyyy better than the stock 2.2 upgrade from optarse. If your tech-savvy I definitely recommend this. A lot smoother and quicker than the official release, more features and it actually is quite stable. Not sure what you mean by "lots of bugs", the only downside I can see is it doesnt have the fm radio yet, not that I care though. In my opinion, this rom makes the tablet worth every penny, I paid $149 so now for $99 this is an absolute steal!

  • +3

Everyone please don't buy now. Wait till they drop it even further seeing as it is not selling. Let it go to $50 and then we all pounce!

    Spread the Message people

    • Can't….res…ist…must..buy….now

      • you…can..do..iALL Glory to the Hypnotoad

  • +1

Don't lose your receipt. Bought in Feb. and already repaired once, and then replaced by Optus. Fingers crossed replacement is more reliable.

    • what went wrong with it?

      • +1

Well, six weeks after I bought it, the HOME key seemed to become stuck, so the recent apps box keeps popping up. 2 weeks to fix, then 3 weeks ago, left half of the screen turned black and white and started to flicker. 2 weeks to replace with new unit.

Probably just a bad unit, but keep your receipt handy…

        • eh? The MyTab does not have a home key. The 'button' is just part of the touchscreen.

  • huh ? what with the comments?? nothing is related to the original post at all.. $99 is pretty good..Ill get one tomorrow… cheers OP

    • +1

The sales does not start till June 1st

      • +1

Ill get it on June 1st then :)

  • I'm very tempted to get one. I've never used a slate or android. What do people think?

    • Just depends on what you are going to use it for?

My wife uses it for Facebook/emails and basic documents editing.

And the kids play the games on it

      • How is it without multi touch?

        • pretty good makes it a bit hard in some games but it is a great device for the money

  • So, does it mean that bigW is selling at 99 now and optus will be selling at 99 starting on 1st june? Hopefully able to get one to test drive with android for the 1st time.

  • Do you think dick smith will price match this? I might try tommorow…

    • You might get lucky if you get a sales rep who does not pick up on the sales date.
