+2 votesRedDogInCan on 11/06/2011 - 23:13 ¶Whilst this is a superseded unit, it is a worthwhile deal for the 5Gb of NextG data alone. Normally Telstra charge $50 for 3Gb data with 30 day expiry. Might get one just for the SIM to put into my 3G enabled laptop.

RedDogInCan on 13/06/2011 - 12:30 ¶Confirmed. A SIM is included in the pack. Once activated the 5Gb is credited immediately.
RedDogInCan on 11/06/2011 - 23:17 ¶Terms & Conditions

brisgirlsm on 11/06/2011 - 23:26 ¶I've had great experience. My local Officeworks is excellent, but their price must be more expensive. They watch the catalogues to and then drop their price to equal so no pricematch can be made. Usually I have to go there soon after a price is released, especially with major retailers like Harvey's.
+1 voteprice matching work. Here is proof ==> http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/imglrt.jpg/ ($49.50)
Technically, I should be entitled to an extra 5% discount but I did not want to wait around for an extra ~ $2.50 discount and the lady who helped me was good. Can some one confirm if the 5% discount is automatically computed and inputted by the computer or requires a manual input?
brisgirlsm on 11/06/2011 - 23:23 ¶Just looked at Telstra and found you can add a MicroSD card - up to 32GB. Thought that was interesting so updated the post.

+1 votebrisgirlsm on 11/06/2011 - 23:45 ¶Unlocking fee - If you want to use your Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband device on another network, you will need to pay a Network Unlocking Fee of $100. See: http://www.telstra.com.au/help/summary-pages/prepaid/mobile-... near bottom of page.
+1 voteThanks. and there is this post…
oscarthesausagedog on 20/06/2011 - 11:56 ¶Prior to purchasing this device, I spoke to Telstra about whether it needs unlocking to insert/use a Telstra post-paid SIM after the 3 month period expires.
I was told that so long as it was a Telstra SIm of any sort, no unlocking is req'd.
Once I had the device, I tried a post-paid SIM and what do you know?? DOESN'T WORK!!

+2 votesThePistonHead on 12/06/2011 - 00:29 ¶Alternatively, get the optus my tab, with 3GB of data in 3 months for $99. Oh and You get a pretty shmick tab too!
+8 votesTightBottom on 12/06/2011 - 08:58 ¶
+1 voteDepending on where you live you might find that the Optus connection is very slow and almost unsuable.
I got a mytab and activated the sim a couple of days ago and Optus wireless here is virtually dead.
Better to pay a few more bucks for wireless bb you can use (telstra) than something that may be useless (optus).
BTW.. The mytab is brilliant for the money.

Telstra one has more download, longer time to use the included data, and NextG is more reliable.
Vodafone one.. the little display on the wifi hotspot is more informative and can be unlocked for free (you just need a PC). It can also be used via USB - like the traditional USB dongle.
It depends on where you plan to use this. If it is for holidays (within Australia), then Telstra one is definetely the one to go for.
+1 voteJust proof of identity ID, student card is usually fine.
And a tip for anyone buying credit, if you're recharging over $100 use the EzyRecharge Paypal deal

Great price, but most Harvey Norman stores probably won't have many of these in stock. Last time I went to the Preston store hoping to get one of these with their 20% off promotion, there was none in stock.
Tempted to go there and try to get one… but a bit worried that they don't have any in stock.

Crownanchor on 12/06/2011 - 12:10 ¶If you recharge before expiry date the remaining credit is added to the recharge with the new expiry date
phobaphobic on 12/06/2011 - 12:10 ¶Do you have to register your details when buying this? I don't want to give HArvey Norman or Telstra mine…
Crownanchor on 12/06/2011 - 13:38 ¶This is correct and if itis like the Hawawei MiFis the device is able to be used as a USB modem.
Brings back memories of the bar of soap modems a few years ago.
+1 voteGuys… while the Huawei one can act as a USB modem. I think Telstra ZTE MF30 (this particular wifi hotspot) cannot. The USB port is limited to charging only.
The ZTE web site states this is not a tethered modem. The elite version, MF60 probably supports USB tethering.
This is a bargain even without it.
systmworks on 12/06/2011 - 15:47 ¶IPHONE 4 OWNERS:
I was tempted to get one of these.. until I realised my iPhone 4 does the same thing (personal hotspot).. so my iPhone now serves my latop, ipad, ipod touch etc for interweb wherever I am.Not saying this may not still be useful for an iphone 4 user also.. but I now wish I hadnt paid extra for a 3G iPad as I am never without my phone.. so my 3G modem and the 3G feature on my ipad are now redundant (along with their data plans).
+5 votestheguyrules on 12/06/2011 - 15:51 ¶Except that this will quite quickly drain the battery of your iPhone.
+1 voteNot only it drains your iPhone 4 battery faster, iPhone 4 (16GB one) is $800+ outright. This thing is ~$50 with 5GB data for 3 months. Besides, the wifi hotspot feature is not exclusive to iPhone 4s, Android phones have this features for a long time.
Also, if you want to download large apps (bigger than 20MB) on your iPhone 4, you can use this wifi hotspot to trick iTunes to let you download it.
systmworks on 12/06/2011 - 19:31 ¶Fair comment that the personal hotspot feature does drain the iPhone battery a bit faster - but not so fast that Ive noticed any difference - and it probably still lasts longer (with screen off) than this modem (4 hours).
Of course you cannot compare the $800 buy outright price of a new iPhone against this $50 device - if you already have a phone and just want a wireless hotspot then this deal is great value - hence why I wrote the comment specifically for IPHONE4 OWNERS. Good point about Android offering this for ages.
Re data charges - I wouldnt think the phone provider would be able to tell the difference as to what was used by the phone itself, or someone using the phone as a modem.. same for wired tethering ?
Ive been using this with Telstra for a few months and have not noticed any extra charges.

HN online has this deal now. I'm just gonna walk into OW and show them the webpage on my phone. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973966123/telstra...
brisgirlsm on 12/06/2011 - 19:42 ¶Beat me too it! ;o) Have updated the post. Glad some people have found this useful. Happy shopping all!
RedDogInCan on 13/06/2011 - 11:30 ¶Just went to OW in Tuggeranong and they price matched based on the HN website.

Got one today from Officeworks Townsville (last one on the shelf) - $47.02 after the 5% pricematch.
Went over to the Telstra Shop (Castletown) and asked about unlocking and they were completely unhelpful, directing me to the prepaid phone number for Telstra, saying they couldn't provide any codes in store. Decided to try my luck at another Telstra store (Aitkenvale this time) and had the unlock code within moments of asking for it. The guy serving me had no idea about unlocking mobile wifi devices, but thankfully decided to "give it a shot" — much more helpful than the other store.
According to the guy that served me, there's no unlocking fee for these MF30s so all you have to do is ask for the code from Telstra. He scanned my IMEI into his computer and he had the code right there - so yes, they can definitely provide the code in store.
President Bartlett on 13/06/2011 - 16:50 ¶Bought one from Harvey Normal North Ryde. They had quite a few in stock, and it scanned at the correct price.

Picked up from Liverpool Store. The staff told me, they dont have any left in the stock. I told them , I called up and confirmed and guess what, he came with one. A*%$^&& hole. That was the word, I thought.
I think, they are clearing, as Elite one have come, which has a screen on it to display the range, battery etc.
Anyhow, does anyone know, if we can still unlock for free, like few people did after buying from Telstra store?

oscarthesausagedog on 13/06/2011 - 21:23 ¶Seems this device can plug via USB to a PC for "charging only" and if you only have a desktop computer, you will need a wifi adapter to connect to the internet. Comments on Telstra website say it's "not a tethered device".
As I read it, I assume this means that if the only computer you have is a desktop PC, you cannot just plug it into the PC and surf?
The specs say it has 4 hrs charge, which is handy for a laptop on the go, but could you USB to PC 24/7 to keep it running, then just wifi? Shame as not cycling a battery from fully charged to fully flat destroys a battery.
Is this purely a pre-paid locked device without unlocking, or could you use Telstra post-paid SIM after the 3 months of data expires?
+1 voteRedDogInCan on 14/06/2011 - 00:20 ¶My box has an expiry date of 19DEC2013 printed on the label with the SIM and IMEI details on it. It might mean something but then again it might not.

Nevermind, only 7.2mbps.

kookiexoxo on 14/06/2011 - 13:51 ¶Just picked up one from Officeworks Elizabeth St Melbourne. Scanned at $49.50 in store. Seems like OW has updated their price, should be the same nation wide?
FYI officeworks website still showing as $99.00 (http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Net...)
