Huawei Sonic U8650 Unlocked Mobile Phone $188 at Big W
This was posted 301 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Went into Big W to check the price of the Nikon D3100 twin lens kit and came across this phone.
It's the same phone posted here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48043 but $60 cheaper.
I think this is currently the lowest price. I'm not sure if it is store specific and I cant seem to find it on their website.

how does it compare with the LG Optimus One P500?? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49539

Got the comparison over on Phone Arena.
LG Optimus One vs Huawei Sonic
This time around, it's a far harder choice. Purely on specs, I'd go for the Sonic due to its larger size screen, higher res camera, and n speed WiFi. But the LG has one detail I value above the specs, physical buttons on the front. The Huawei uses fixed function capacitive pads.
here is the phone details and in use

+3 votesThe main issue with Huawei Sonic is that its specs. are still previous gen - honestly 2 gens behind (okay wifi-n is current gen, but I hope it is wireless N 300, not wireless N 150). 512MB ROM and 262K TFT screen - again cost cutting in a bad way.
It depends on how important the phone & 3G part is to you. Apple iPod Touch 4th gen 8GB is $199. Now, the bit I don't get is… why can't one of the Android phone makers create something like an iPod touch, but add in a 3G chip? Sell one for $250 perhaps. Since the cheapest Huawei Android phone is $49, that 3G chip with GPS cannot possibly cost $49. The only logical explanation is all these smart phones have healthy profit margain, even the low end ones.
This phone needs to be priced lower (likewise for X5).

+1 voteI agree. It is just no wireless chipset company wants to make wireless G chipset anymore. They basically tweaked the chipset a bit and call it wireless N (150). So, it is not Huawei spent extra to get wireless N and put it in, they just picked the cheapest wireless chipset.

Nah… 3G chipset on that phone can do at most 7.2Mbps. Even 54Mbps is plenty.
However, there is one good thing about the wireless N chipset. They tend to have better reception (you expect a newer chipset to do something better than the old). However, don't get too carry away with wireless N on this particular phone. Just treat it like wireless G when comparing to other Android phones.

Curious too - could see a discussion on whirlpool: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1544896
… but when I look on eBay, it's mostly around AU$200 for buy-it-now price plus shipping to AU: http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?LH_AvailTo=15&_nkw=orange+san...
NeBlackCat on 27/07/2011 - 12:53 ¶I just googled (.co.uk) it a few days ago - there were several normal retail places (inc. Tesco, Argos) selling for 95+ pounds which iirc is around $150+ plus shipping.
But I've also seen it on special between 70-80, and am waiting for that to come around again before I buy one for myself and the mrs. Shouldn't be long as it's an "older" model now. I have parents there who can pick up and post.
Could always organise a group buy if anyone's interested.

The phone is iphone 4 like size, but the hardware is rather ordinary. Main thing going for it is Android 2.3. For that size phone, I would at least go for X5.
