Can I take the sim card out for my iPad?

    • +14

Provided you have functioning fingers, or know someone that does..

    • +1

you will need to cut down the sim card to microsim size if you want to use it in your ipad.

      • +2

OK, just wondering whether this one comes with sim card or not.

        You know some doesn't.

it said 4gb included data, so assume it should be included as on the term and condition said u need to activate by 30 sept 2011

  • +1

How long is the expiry on the 4gb?

  • I presume it would be locked to virgin? Anyone know?

    • yes, can be unlock after recharging $80, not sure may be u can find the code to unlock ur self on the net

      • +3

        http://a-zgsm.com/huawei.php?act=submit

        That usually works to unlock.

        • Is this link safe to unlock the usb modem? How do you know if you IMEI number is not stored by the developer? There are people who steal IMEI numbers for insurance fraud.

    • +1

Not locked to Virgin, just the Optus network. So for instance you could use an Amaysim in it, which is a good deal.

      • It was locked to Virgin. I inserted my Amaysim card and got asked for the unlock code.
Entered the code I got from a free ap I found via google and it now works fine.

Not for sale in Tasmania? WTF's that all about?

    • may be they have coverage problem mate

      • i think virgin uses optus towers

  • Great deal! I'm getting one!
Just keep in mind that while 4gb of data may only be $19 for the initial month it's still $49 for subsequent recharges if you want another 4gb.
The full rates can be found at http://www.virginmobile.com.au/prepaid-internet-broadband/

I'm starting to collect USB modems like AOL floppy discs.
Is there any market for locked 2nd hand modems?

    • +1

      There's an app for that.

      JOKES

      Try eBay haha

    • I bought one from eBay… unlock it with the link above and sell it

  • Im with Virgin - the internet drops out constantly. Calls and emails to get help about it result in being emailed highly technical blurb. Have a look at any of the internet comparison sites - Virgin doesnt ever get a mention - its not even on the list

    • Probably because its only a reseller of the Optus network..

    • same, they can't even explain why we get dropouts, direct sight to the tower and close. they basically said we will try this but other than that bad luck.

im still going to buy one of these though…

  • Always good to have one of these as a backup internet. I use one of these with a cheap wireless plan with exetel $0 month with free 50mb data. Usually costs me nothing unless I go over the 50mb. Not sure if you can still sign up to that plan though.

    • how do u get this free 50 mb plan? can't find in exetel website

      • Doesn't look like that plan is available any more. If you already have exetel adsl you can get this plan now though-

$5 month with zero included data

Excess Usage Charges** $0.02 $0.25 per 30 seconds

*Data is charged by Mbytes. Both Uploads and Downloads are counted.

  • I've got liveconnected with 1GB data. can I use it in that?

    • Not sure… you most likely need to unlock it first (which can be done for free). Just go to the Web site posted by dennis.s.s and enter the modem's IMEI.

  • good deal instead. virgin mobile had a sale last week, $25 for 4GB data USB and $50 for the one with WiFi capability.

Inserted the virgin sim into the galaxy S2 to use tethering but it didn't work :(

    • +2

you have to set the APN's correctly. I use voda sim on galaxy tab and my wife use optus on viewpad. no problem. just google to get APN for virgin prepaid broadband

      • Yeah its easier to tether with an Android phone. The iPhone is another story…

  • Anyone know what model number this is? i.e. is it a Hawaii E169?

    • +1

      Looks like it's a Huawei E160E

  • I can confirm it's E160E.
They only had 3 at Westfield Parramatta Coles this morning, I went in at 7:30.
    2 Left now.

  • I got the 8gb for the same price from Coles?

    • Edit- it supports up to 8gb

  • I got one from Adelaide CBD coles in my lunch break, $19.

Not sure how many were left but she didn't struggle to find one so I assume theres at least a few :)

  • What a load of shit. Been to 7 Cole stores now around Sydney, not a single one available at any of them.

  • Had anyone successfully used amaysim card in this modem, I tried and with no luck, wont let me connect even I had unlocked the modem. Please help.
I tried create a new profile, amaysim, APN: internet, rest of them using default.

    • Worked for me with Amaysim. Unlocked. Created new profile with the details from the Amaysim website.
Had to restart and wait till it found the network before pressing connect.

  • Just moving house, this will come in handy. I picked up one from OF who had matched the Coles price.

  • Hey guys,

I got this $19 deal from coles, activated it, but only have 1gb of data. tried calling virginmobile which didn't quite help saying it might have been an error on coles side. anyone with the same problem or suggestions? cheers
