  • how do you get that shipped to australia? I get an error: This item cannot be shipped to the address you selected. (

    • No issues going through checkout for me (and for other commenters). Maybe check if your shipping address is properly formatted, and that you're adding the "Ships and sold by Amazon.com" stock. :)

  • -3

    Doubt its for Australia…

  • +2

This is mighty tempting… under $350 delivered if you buy it in USD and use the 28 degrees card to do the conversion ;)

  • +1

Great price and glowing reviews, couldn't say no.

slowmo, worked fine for me. Ordered with shipping to Australia. Maybe you've got the dock (which can't be shipped or something else in your cart that's stopping the order.

  • +4

I've got an iPad 2 but I still want to buy this! ARGH.

  • +6

Got mine from Amazon yesterday and have been playing with it. Mine can't be rooted because it has the new serial number starting from B70. If you have the intention of getting this and have it rooted, you will be one unhappy camper. However, I am very happy with the Honeycomb 3.2 as it is much more superior to the android 2.3.5 with more intuitive control similar to WebOs and far superior to IOS :).

    • +1

How long did it take to ship?

      • almost 3 weeks waiting… using non express shipping

        • That's quite some time.

    • I don't think it would be a long wait for the B70 model to get rooted.

    • +1

You can root pads with a B70 serial, mines B70 and it rooted fine. I'm running revolution 2.1.2 atm with a clemsys kernel.

      • Care to show me the link? I can't get my pad to a state ready for rooting as vol+ and power button do not work for me.

      • Finally figured it out. For those who believe B70 is not rootable is now proven wrong. Just use the Nvflashtf with Prime 1.5 and in recovery you can flash whichever custom rom.

  • +2

What about the charger etc? Will it work in our 240V system?

    • ofcourse it works, mistaken the + button for reply dammit :/

      • erm how do u figure that? its from the US… therefore it'll be a US adapter… now assuming its a switching adapter a US to AUS adapter would be required… but if its a 110v only or whatever they use… ur screwed

you can charge these things on USB though… however the device must be OFF and it will take a long time due to voltage of usb ports

this is the only thing holding me back from buying right now…

        • +1
        • because i bought one from amazon US, need i say more

        • the reason behind it not charging via usb is because the device actually needs about 11-15Vdc at over 1Amp which a usb port from a computer simply cannot provide.

        • yeah i get that… thanks for the clarification :)

  • +8

Awesome. I've been looking at this for a while now. Wish it came with 3G. I think i'll hold off the tab bandwagon for now.

  • +1

I assume the price drop is due to the soon-to-be-available 3G model?

    • +2

3g version is available already on ebay taiwan.

      • +2

for twice the price as this wifi version

        • Is it?

        • +2

Why yes it is. $685 shipped for 16GB Wifi+3G tablet only.

Kind of throws the whole "but I need 3g because I don't want to have to press a button on my phone to tether" argument/whining out the window.

        • -1

If US/UK/AUS pricing reflects this, then there won't be many sold worldwide, and ASUS will have to pull their head in and price more sensibly.

  • +20

to those that bidded 300+ on the 16gb TouchPad today, LOL to you, have fun with your half-baked gingerbread ports :D

  • +1

one of the best android tablet on the maker! Unfortunately it hasnt had 3G and I just bought a 3G xoom :)

  • +3

tempted to get this and sell my 32GB 3G iPad 1. only downside is that it won't have 3G. hmm….. decisions decisions.

    • +4

if you had space to carry an ipad around, you would have had space to carry a pocket wifi around

this 3G thing is overblown to silly proportions.

      • very true. so the Transformer would work with any USB pocket wifi?

        • +22

since it works with wifi, i'd say it works with wifi

        • +2

You can tether to your phone as well. Since there's almost never going to be a time where you have your tablet but not your phone, this is perfect. Saves you having 2 separate data plans too.

      • +3

It really depends on how the person uses it - a pocket wifi device doesn't suit everyone.

Some people might want their tablet to be constantly connected, hooked up to their office's push email for notifications to come through. Some people don't want to charge two devices every day. People who are less tech-savvy would prefer a tablet that's just ready-to-go whenever they want to use it, rather than having to make sure their pocket wifi device is switched on and has sufficient charge.

The whole 3G thing isn't overblown, it's just different people having different needs.

        • +1

Agreed. I know i can tether my phone and all, but imagine being on the road and having to charge your phone more than you'd like because of tethering.

Pocket wifi don't have a long battery lifespan either. Built in 3G is definitely useful for some people like myself.

        • point taken.

But when I said overblown I was really pointing at the price differences from manufacturers :)

        • price? you never mentioned price at all. no one mentioned price, in fact. You said if one can carry an ipad, they can carry a pocket wifi router around, hence the 3g thing is blown to silly proportions. :)

        • yeap, between people being picky about having a 3G enabled tablet around and the fact that they have to pay +$150 extra on top to have a 3G version.

  • -1

now i am more seriously thinking of selling my mytab.

    • -6

wtf,who neg me and for wat?!

  • In response to 3g issues, if anyone happens to have an android phone, could you just tether and use the phone as a wifi hotspot if you're on the go? because that'd save a lot of money, and I always have my phone cm7/oxygen (depending on what tickles my pickle) with me :)

    • android with 2.2 and above is capable (I think)?

      • Even with 2.1 its also possible, it's just a little trickier to do. You need to root the phone and then install WirelessTether app.

I was able to do it on my Garmin A50, however the connection wasn't very stable (not to mention the phone got REALLY hot).

    • yes. but you get significantly less battery out of your phone/wireless router depending on your perspective. these things eat up battery like a fat kid on cake

      • +2

        Ahh. sweet sauce.
my battery lasts with wifi, at least long enough to muck around with a tabby. it's the screen that kills it :)

superb deal in this case, although i'll probably skip out after that touchpad heartbreak. anything above 200 dollars makes my liver sweat.

        • 3G drains it faster than screen i think.. i've had 2 hours of surfing and it dropped 50% and i normally go 24 hours without charging. it depends on signal strength i think

    • +2

i tried with a htc desire hd as my wifi hot spot. It works perfectly!

  • +1

can i use this in conjunction with an iphone 4 with 3G connection?

    • yes

      • +5

Not if Steve Jobs is watching…

    • Yes, do this all the time with my own Honeycomb (Galaxy Tab)

  • -2

don't know if i should get this or wait it out and get the Transformer 2 when it's released.

    • when will t2 be released?

      • +1

Why don't you wait for the Transformer 3?

        • +4

Transformer 3 was stupid, no Megan Fox

        • +2

Transformer 3 was great, no Megan Fox

    • +1

Nah wait for the T3 to be released it will have android jellycake 4.1

  • Hmm. seriously considering getting this now >.< apparently it's smoother than the xoom?

    • I hope it is, but I'm still hesitant. I bought the Xoom for $700 when it first came out and it was so choppy compared to the iPad, and I sold it straight away.

      • +1

using xoom now with 3.1 it is smooth and much better than the ipad!
        What are talking about?

    • +1

imo, it's much smoother, when I was trying the xoom in jb hi fi.

  • What's the best local price for these at the moment?

  • +4

These tablets are great and Honeycomb is improving with each update. I bought a 32GB version through Ebay before they were released in Oz and use it daily. Be careful buying a keyboard from Tawain - some come with Chinese characters on the keys which can be a bit distracting. As for 3G, I'm pretty sure that 99% of the people interested in one of these would be carrying an internet enabled phone around with them anyway - just tether/hot spot/acces point it with the tablet, it is dead simple, works fine, and saves having 2 internet data plans. I like my iPhone and my PC, but I love my Transformer - great gadget, great deal !

  • great deal. order one my self

  • Thanks for the great deal. My order just went through. I paid $360 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" a few months back from JBHiFi. This is a much better tablet. My mate paid $750 for the same 16gb one with the KeyBoard a couple of months ago on eBay shipped from Taiwan. I am not concerned about 3G since i have the Desire HD with WiFi hot-spot.

    • what kind of keyboard? the one for computer?

  • people people, if i pay with amex will i get 50 cashback???

    • Don't daydream bro lol.

  • Some extra info if you ozbargainer techies are keen:

this thing can be rooted, flashed and overclocked to 1.6ghz more easily than most other tablets. I think it's got one of the fastest benchmarks in comparison, for this reason. battery life may be an issue, but if you want to show off to your friends, or people who own the ipad 2 - what better way :)?

i've just been reading though. I may be(and often am) wrong - med student trying his hand at technology here, go easy on me xD

    • Nothing gets my girl as hot and bothered as tablet benchmarks…

      • +4

By "girl" do you mean "guy"?

      • It's all the talk of rooting..

  • Would my Huawei E160 3G mobile modem work with this?

    • You need a wifi modem. This one does not have a USB port.

  • Does the amazon one come with international warranty?

    • +1

According ASUS Australia on facebook: "the Transformer has an International Warranty that is supported locally. The service centre is in Silverwater. Please call 1300 278 788 to discuss the issue and make arrangements for repair".
      http://www.facebook.com/asusaustralia?ref=ts

      • They're not obliged to pick it up from your location for free though, since it wasn't bought "locally", they still did for my laptop since they f**ked up my laptop before [left the keyboard unplugged or something], all good now though :)

        • is this a confirmed tradition? so courier services are for locally bought asus products only?

        • @annoynimous
That's what the dude on the phone told me..
Well it's free courier pickup and return if you bought your ASUS product locally, if you didn't, well you have to travel to the repair centre or pay for the courier fee

  • i really want one now…
it says $349.00 is this correct?

    • $361.58 delivered.

    • Yes, it's USD 349.00 (Amazon converts to AUD 347.69 including fees)
      edit: and as kluger said

  • So friggin tempted. Except I already own an android ebook reader, an android phone and an android galaxy tab already. Damn.

  • A great product, the OP mentions getting a dock for $135 but I cannot find one for that price. :(

    • +2

In my hometown, i.e. Hanoi (Vietnam) they are selling it for roughly 85-90 Aussie bucks. So if you have any friends/relatives there…

      • -1

Oh lol, look at what he/she did to my beau geste: negged my post. For what?

        • +1

… probably just got mad at you for reminding him/her of all the bargains and delicious food to be had in Hanoi :)

    • This one from Taiwan for AU $133.29 (according to eBay calculation) delivered:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-Eee-Pad-Transformer-TF101-Ke…
However, keys contain both English and Chinese symbols and could be distracting for some.

  • +1

I think I would get one of these instead of an iPad 2, if I had the dough.

    • dude, $99 touchpad is the hobo-friendly tablet for the month, start finding one

  • anyone know the cheapest price that is available on the market for the 3g versions?

  • Yes, they deliever to Australia. I bought mine at $399 from Amazon a few weeks ago.
