The Galaxy tab was the same price a couple of weeks back, but it was from shopping square, so it got negged into oblivion, even though it was a good deal.

Good Q&A session in there too worth a quick read…
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52351

      • +8

Thanks for digging that up and it's a shame that ShoppingSquare got continuously penalised by the community for their pricing error.

  • Put Price and Store in title

  • +3

Fixed. You should be able to see iPad and Galaxy Tab's pricing here.

Edit: Also postage to Sydney/Melbourne is $34.

  • Sorry guy's - updated now

  • +2

I thought the Galaxy Tab was banned here, is it illegal to sell it now locally?

    • +15

Once Apple sees this deal, that's the end of Kogan…

      • lol

      • +1

Yeah because Kogan is a local web site.

    • they banned sales in Germany, but knowing apple it's probably only a matter of time, heck there might even be a fire sale like the Hp tablet…(hint hint!)

      • next guy said it better

        • +14

          it better =p

        • Whoaaaaa!! When did you first realise you were clairvoyant??

      • AFAIK They banned Samsung Germany from selling them in Germany, but they can still be imported and sold by other retailers so it's not a total loss if people really want one.. Now if Samsung are smart they will allow these imported models to have the warranties honoured at the German Service centres, something they normally don't do ( they certainly don't here.)

"Following today’s hearing in the Federal Court of Australia, Samsung has agreed to delay the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 pending the court’s decision in the week commencing September 26, 2011," Samsung said in a statement this afternoon.

"It should be noted that the court has not issued an injunction against the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and the court did not make any ruling during today’s hearing."

      The Australian, August 29.

So, it's not illegal for another person (e.g. Kogan Technologies) to buy the 10.1 from where it is for sale and to sell it in Australia. It's not illegal for Samsung to sell it here, but it would be in breach of its (supposed) undertaking to the court not to sell it.

      • I agree, there does not seem to be an injunction against them yet, but Samsung couldn't knowingly sell them to a Australian Distributor.

However this does not prevent Apple from getting an injunction, which could happen pretty quickly, given Samsung has agreed to not sell here.

Depends who is doing the importing. Loks like Kogan Technologies pty ld is the importer, so definitely an Australian company.

Kogan consistantly surprise me with the way they do business. Very brave. I will wait to see what happens with interest.

I don't believe it afects customers though, as long as it is known that Samsung may not provide local support.

  • Interested, but is there any catch at all when purchasing from them?

    • +1

nope they have pretty great customer service when I've dealt with them - replaced a 10 month old vacuum cleaner that stopped working well

    • +1

i don't think it's Aussie stock, most likely from overseas because in the specifications tabs, it tells you they give you - 1 AU Power Adapter - which means the one in the box is not Aussie

  • Its a damn good deal. First time I have seen anyone beat Expansys for tablet prices.
    http://www.expansys.com.au/tablet-pcs+ipads/apple-ipad-2/
    http://www.expansys.com.au/tablet-pcs+ipads/brand/samsung/

You have been able to buy the galaxy tab for a while now from expansys. Its just the bricks and mortar shops in Australia that couldn't sell them, the online shops can get around the ban. (As far as I know)
A guy in my work got the GT a few weeks ago and it looks awesome! Screen is amazing!

  • HTTP 503 :)

    • Works fine for me

      • Try ordering

        • +1

          ahh… hehehe

Possibly everyone checking the postage cost now :)

  • +4

$34 for delivery for a single iPad to Brisbane :(

    • Yeah, same for VIC.

      • Same for Perth.

  • How does Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comparing to Acer Iconia A500 or Asus Transformer, which you can have for ~$100 less and local stock as well? They all run nVidia Tegra 2… I don't mind the extra weight and thickness. Just interested in the performance side of things.

    • Not sure about the other 2 but I compared the Galaxy Tab to my Viewpad 10s and the screen quality difference is noticeable! I wouldn't say my Viewpad has a bad screen, the Galaxy Tab just has a really good screen.

The performance was about the same but then it wasn't a fair test as my tablet had a stripped down OS so it ran nice and quick.

      • I wouldn't say my Viewpad has a bad screen

I thought the viewsonics had the worst screen ever.

Its a shame about Apple having a sook because I'd really like to be able to walk in and compare it side by side to the Transformers IPS screen.

        • +1

Yeah, I heard some people say the screen is crap but I don't think it's that bad for a cheap tablet. 1024x600 is plenty for me.

Don't know if the people who don't like it were using the stock 2.2 OS but I think the 3.2 OS looks good.

Would be good to get all the 10 inch tablets side by side and see the differences! :)

      • I brought an iPad 2 from work home last night and read a chapter of the Sandman comic on it. The reading experience difference is very obvious. The Viewsonic just cannot compare with the iPad 2. For everything else, it's fine.

Yes, it's Gizmodo, but the article was republished from another independent site and Giz would have loved to put Apple at #1. Choice between these Android tablets comes down to

Galaxy Tab: Best screen, slimmest and lightest tablet on the Aussie market now.
Iconia/Transformer: More ports and in the case of the Transformer, optional keyboard dock, cheaper.

I went with the Galaxy Tab and have been loving it for the last couple of months. It's gorgeous, very portable etc but if you really need a microSD card slot, pick one of the other options.

    • As much as I love the transformer, reviews says the galaxy tab 10.1 is bit better. The colors are more vivid and vibrant, bit more glare on the transformer, and the GT brightness is way higher and better contrast ratio.

Found the article that I was reading, http://galaxytablife.com/2011/06/eee-pad-transformer-vs-gala…

      • +13

Well, from a site called "Galaxy Tab Life", it'd be hard for them to say that the Transformer is better…

        • +2

haha yea, realized that after I watched the video. I'd still get transformer if I were to choose again, being able to attach it to the dock would be the main reason; I didn't think I'd use it much but when I got it, my transformer is docked most of the time.

        • many website said the same thing. transformer slightly better. does 500++ justify for samsung tab??

    • -1

The Acer Iconia A500 is an awesome tablet and better than both tablets in this offer IMHO.

      • Agree with you on that. And at the current price !!!! Shame i bought it 1 month ago for 450

      • the acer looks less portable than the samsung ones.

    • The transformer is functionally great but fat heavy ugly and ungainly compared to the galaxy tab. And the weight and thickness matter, the other android tablets feel like devices from the last century compared to the galaxy tab.

      galaxy tab:
      + higher res screen
      + 16:10 good for videos

      -plasticky
      -limited apps

      ipad
      -low res screen
      +unmatched range of apps
      +metal construction
+4:3 may be a bit better for reading and browsing but the higher resolution of the galaxy tab largely negates that

    • Galaxy Tab 10 has no expandable memory :(

      • They sell the Motorola Xoom with double the memory for $10 more AND it has expandable memory, mini-USB and HDMI all of which Galaxy Tab dont

  • My pc freezes when I look at the site LOL
must be pissing of my AV

  • Man, those iPad 2 prices sure are cheap!

  • +2

why is shipping so much??? $34.00?????

    • +6

      To adjust the iPads cost!!!!

    • +1

To covertly inflate the price (but any savvy buyer factors it in when assessing a deal anyway)

    • +4

It's from overseas. Would be interesting if you got an Australian tax invoice.

  • we should arrange a bulk buy to reduce the postage cost to minimum :)

  • The postage is per item I believe, which means if you order two, would be $68…. still a great price even with postage. and if you are traveling within next 30 days, you get GST back as well.

    • oh sh*t, but yeah very cheap, esp the wifi 3g ones

    • How to claim back the GST if i am traveling within next 30 days?

    • I don't think it's gst-included.

      • +1

Interesting, I just got my invoice and on it, there no mention of GST…….

So looks like this is shipping from overseas and therefore you can not claim GST using TRS.

        • Thanks.

        • That's right. Just got an email from them in regards to GST enquiry of an Ipad 2.

This product is sold by our Hong Kong division and GST is charged if and when applicable.
          Kindest Regards,
          Warwick
          The Kogan Team

        • +3

Update: I've just called them and they said it's shipping from Hong Kong warehouse. That explains what they mean by sourcing the tablets from higher up the supply chain in order to save on price on the following news.com.au article.

          http://www.news.com.au/technology/tablets/kogan-rings-the-fi…

Regardless, it's still a good price, you just need to be aware you are not eligible to claim GST on this if your intention was to do that.

        • TAKE NOTE:
IPAD2 from Kogan is from Hong Kong.
This ipad2 is shipped from Kogan HK limited and I think there won't be any tax returned at this price.

        • +2

So does that mean you are not getting a proper tax invoice from Kogan Technology Pty Ltd but an invoice from some overseas entity? Even if shipped from overseas, if they invoice you from an Australian company they still need to charge you GST for it, isn't it?

        • +3

There is $1000 GST-free threshold for goods from overseas. From my understanding they don't charge you GST, therefore you can't claim it back as well.

        • +1

Even if you ordered over $1000 of goods from overseas, they will not charge/invoice you for GST. Customs charges you for that.

        • So does that mean you are not getting a proper tax invoice from Kogan Technology Pty Ltd but an invoice from some overseas entity?

Quite possibly from Kogan HK? Otherwise, I would like to know too if they are exempted from GST when they drop-ship items.

Any accountants in the house? (given it's OZB, I would assume there would be)

      • No where on the website does it say the contract is different than the normal sales.. I think Kogan needs a better lawyer because they'd boned this one up.

        • Any business can charge you a price, and give you an invoice with that states either GST included or GST exempt. It's up to you to ask whether you are getting charged GST. Same as when dealing with a small sole trader.

    • I can't edit my comment so can only do a reply on this, please note that you will not be able to claim back the GST as the iPads are shipping from Hong Kong.

    • I have previously negotiated over postage when buying more than one item from Kogan. They dropped the cost by about half. I just dropped them an email and they sent me an offer with a proper quote number and tax invoice and I just had to reply within 24 hours.

  • +1

    the postage kill me

  • +2

kogan shipping has always been kinda awful

  • +8

For people after an iPad 2, it might be worth asking a manager at a (physical) Apple Store if they're willing to price match; Apple are generally pretty good about matching offers at DSE, JB Hi-Fi etc., but I'm not sure about Kogan, since they're likely selling grey imports and aren't an authorised reseller.

  • Has anyone tried price matching at officeworks???? Extra 5% off plus no delivery cost!

    • do they sell iPads at Officeworks?

      • +4

i cant remember ever seeing apple stuff @ ow

        • +1

They sell iPods and iPhone accessories, no computers or iPads (as far as I'm aware)

        • OW did dabble in Apple at a couple of stores, but Apple weren't happy with the sales volume, so OW went for Dell instead.

      • My bad, i dont think they do! but maybe big W can price match. If anyone knows a place that would price match, please list them

        • +5

I tried it before, they refused

    • plus when they PM, they match the total cost including delivery too..

  • Good price on the iPads are these still covered by the apple warranty?

    • +1

Yeah, u can walk into a physical apple store and get it fixed.

      • +3

        Exchanged more like it

  • +5

It doesn't say anywhere they're brand new, could they be refurbished?

    • That is a good point. Wouldn't be the first ones to do this.

  • If only I could use the spreets $200 voucher on the ipad price and bring it down to $300 and then claim GST at the airport in about 2 weeks…would be able to buy the ipad for the magical price of $270….if only!!!

    • +1

Haha, now i've found no use of the spreets voucher :(

  • cant use spreet voucher?? this is useless

    • No…I just confirmed with their online chat service…and they confirmed that you cannot use the spreets voucher, as the ipads are tagged as a special price item.

    • they're marked as on sale so maybe when they go to their regular price, whatever that they may be then I guess you could use it (can't use spreets voucher on sale items & live price)

  • +4

Apple Store on George Street will not price-match…

    • +2

if they refused bigbear i think i have no chance to try

  • +1

Anyone managed to get any stores to price match these?

  • -4

    dupe…

    • +54

Can someone translate this to english for me? I could be wrong, but is he saying the weather in brisbane is overcast but warm?

      • +43

Using Google Translate (a few times):

"Months ago, I bought three of iPhone4 Planet, was a problem with acne at home. Apple is advantageous for me, e-mail account in Luke, but I have 32 grams iPhone4, 300 dollars to mean the world to 3 300bugs the iPhone has, it's like. From experience, the value for IPAD2 approximately one hundred and three of the product than the price of apple maybe 150 Because there is no doubt there."
