I saw the ad at Herald Sun (VIC) today. I believe this is a good price. Not too sure whether it is only VIC or nationwide

    Wow, on their site, the 32GB A500 (no 3G) is $299!

    Just checked all local stores tho and don't appear to have stock, although you can order online…

    Maybe it should be in the OP:

    A500 16GB = $249
    A500 32GB = $299
    A501 16GB = $339
    A501 32GB = $399

        I called up to ask them about holding one of the 16gb wifi for $249, she told me best price was $244.

      I'll be getting the base model from thegoodguys. Yes, I could go to OW for a price match and get $12.50 off but somehow I feel that the retailer that bothers to bring us an offer that beats all others by such a margin (instead of just reluctantly providing price matches) deserves more of my custom.

      Just means it's nationwide. Maybe call them to confirm. Then see if OW will pricematch. I am severaly tempted at a pricematched 32GB 3G!

      Yeah appears to be nationwide. Alexandria (my local TheGoodGuys) is also showing $249 for 16GB Wi-Fi and $399 for 32GB 3G, and $10 for delivery. You can order online without register an account.

    I have the non-3G model and it's a great tablet. The dumping of stock at these bargain prices suggests it'll be superceded by a new model soon. I'm hopeful that this model can still be upgraded to IceCreamSandwich - if not officially by Acer then by the community.

      I have the Transformer with dock and it is better in terms of features (+SDHC +IPS screen), build quality and support (fast updates etc) but at these prices I would go for the Iconia.

    Yeah, I work at DSE and the reason they're going cheap now is because they are bring new tablets in with quad core cpu's and android 4.0 (ice cream sandwich)

      Well I was chatting to an employee from JB today who has a mate who apparently works for the Good Guys. I asked if he'd had many people in trying to get a price match on the Acer tablet. He replied no not really and that they were not price matching. He went on to explain that the reason these tablets have been reduced is that the Good Guys purchased a very large shipment, so large in fact that they have been unable to shift them fast enough. According to him, Acer then told them they had to move the stock otherwise they would not supply any further products!? Fact or fiction!? It certainly explains why JB and DSE won't price match and the only reason OW is because they have an official policy regarding price matching.

      If you buy the A501 the 3G model — then yes you can. With A500, you might be able to use a SIP application (csipsimple for example) to connect to a VISP, and then you can make calls over Wi-Fi.

          Might need other A501 owners to confirm. I do have Optus MyTab which can make calls as it has 3G capability, and I would think other 3G tablets can do that as well.

          I do however use SIP to make calls on my A500 (using CSIPSimple). I found it's not really integrated with Contact. Whereas Skype can also be used to make out-bound calls and it's integrated with Contact.

        depends on the modem driver/firmware installed with the system.
        If it has the voice enabled, can make call.
        Some Galaxy Tab sold in US can't make call. But can be software changed.
