    • Please.

        Are you serious?

        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/765749

I'd rather pay abit more and actually have the tablet before the next model comes out…

        • +3

Well, I can't speak for everyone, but my dealings with SS have been positive. I'm sure a lot of other people have had positive experiences with SS too. That thread spans 4 years and contains only 10 pages of posts, which is probably a very low percentage of their total transactions over the 4 years.

        • -1

          oh well go ahead then.

I've bought from them, not happening again, no matter how cheap they are. With a quick google or search on here it seems alot of people agree.

  • 16gb or 32gb?

    • There is a micro-SD slot on the tablet, a SDHC and 2 USB slots on the dock. So you can easily boost the storage to 16+32+32=80Gb + ad hoc USB flash memory. Prices of these cards are falling on a weekly basis. Hence, they will be even cheaper by the time you actually need the extra space. Besides, you can always store large files on Cloud storage.

AFAICS, the only advantage offered by the 32Gb model is the faster acccess time to the extra 16Gb in a solid state drive.

Can't vouch for point *2 for sure but 3 is bad enough, 1 is extremely dodgy and insta-neg.

      • -1

Seriously? You can't just add it to the cost of the item to get a total price? I've already done it in the title for you. And I've posted this as a 16GB tablet, not a 32GB tablet.

Transformer Prime coming before Xmas - this model will only get cheaper

    • +14

Transformer Prime? I'm surprised Hasbro hasn't sued them yet.

      • +1

A far stretch.. it could be a play on a current converter and a number set ;)

but i'll bet hasbro will start waking their lawyers when asus start calling their gear eeepc megatron which is kind of an oxymoron. :)

  • Deal is up, anyone shed any light on warranty? Site doesn't say much besides Australian local Warranty Service

    • These are grey imports and I doubt they are covered by ASUS Australian warranty. When the battery on my TF101 died a few months ago, ASUS provided free courier pickup and return repair service. You should contact ShppSqr directly to find out if their warranty covers shipping cost both ways.

      • International warranty on asus laptops and tabs

        • Except no free courier pick up and return for grey imports.

  • Good price but it's Shopping Square and the Prime (Transformer 2) is officially announced by Asus on the 9th of Nov so I'm not sure whether to + or - this deal.
Like theearth, I'm not too sure about that keyboard dock… The main picture is an after market one but the description has Asus ones.

  • Awesome deal… good thing I got rid of mine before the price drops…

  • Good value atm,
    Cheapest comparison I could find for 16gb+16gb + dock was 599 http://www.cpl.net.au/
    MSY have 32gb SSD + dock for 639 http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/notebook.pdf

  • Wait for Quad core tegra3 or get this?

I know quad core would be pretty expensive when release
but it would go down sooner or later

the advantage is the it support 1080p and plays 720p better than the tegra 2

also would be good to know if the dock would work with the prime..
so it can save us some cash if we upgrade.

    • +1

IMHO it's not going to make a lot of difference on a 10" screen whether it's 1080p or 720p.
None of the Apps on the market place (including the fast action HD games) that I have tried so far really stretches the dual-core CPU and GPU on the current bunch of tablets. Also, almost all the major makes are committed to updating their existing tablets to Ice Cream Sandwich. Thus, I see little reasons to hold-out for the quad-core units which invariably will be very expensive on released when compared to the ones that are heavily discounted ATM, unless of course you don't really need a tablet just yet.

      • 720p video playback performance ok? Seen/read about some problems with earlier honeycomb versions

      • +1

Yeah, it'll make a difference. I bought the transformer one month back and returned it because it wasn't up to my expectations. Some stuttering on 3d games. Generally, it just doesn't seem up to standard to me. I'd probably wait for the transformer prime.

      • most of Mkv files on the internet are encoded with AC3 audio files, when u convert to ACC files, it works like a charm.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184002, and the files are smaller than the original files. i converted from 720p which is around 3-4GB to 1.7-2GB file, save some spaces on the tablet also

      • Try playing a video on the Take40 website on current tablets. They generally lag a tad.

Newer technology will always allow for more possibilities. Sure, they run fine now with their current software, but they are limited to what they can do now at the current efficiency.

New tablets may support better cameras, be thinner, be lighter, better battery life, faster memory access, faster boot up, true side by side multitasking, more functions, such as better video editing software built into the core os to allow direct upload of polished videos to youtube, and for those who care, they are made to look newer and prettier generally. Just like fashion, technology can look outdated.

Saying that, there is no doubt that newer technology is generally more expensive, so you should still base buying a tablet on your needs and budget.

    • if you want to play 720p mkv files today without transcoding, just hunt down for a galaxy tab 7", the hummingbird processor plays them perfectly fine.

  • I got one last week, went into OW with MSY catalogue, pricematched to $607.05 for 32Gb model + Dock
If you dont want to wait, can make that 64Gb with a SD card then.

  • +2

A bit dodgy but quite a good deal indeed.

  • Jb hifi will give it to you for $600 if you ask nicely. I got them to $600 within 10 seconds of haggling

    • +3

      It's $468 here….?

    • +1

He meant the actual 32gb+dock. Not this faux 32gb.

      • +1

        Doesn't matter much though.

    • I was replying to fincky. 600 is a good price for a local seller. And that's for a genuine 32gb model with dock…

  • +1

Hmm… i don't know, this feels like yesterday's technology now… with the new intel slim form factor, we would be looking at thinner notebooks that can do a lot more… plus the new android is coming out.

Too bad Asus priced this too high.. otherwise, it could've wiped the floor with ipad.

  • Love my acer icona a500 for $249 but thats all i would/will/did pay for one, any more i say get any ipad, its SO much better! For some reason andriod does not have the nice, accurate 'zoom' effect for web pages/docs, no multi finger gestures (apple patents granted i guess) and FLIPBOOK is the best ipad media app ever and its not driod.

Now i have both, use them both and love them both but for me to pay more than >$250 im getting the ipad, $1 less & the a500 is worth the compromise & the wait for ICS 4.0 (maybe it will get better?) & for $200-250 ill wait and take the chance.

PS: as a side note the Asus EeePad Transformer is great, just like a netbook - but until its cheaper than a netbook (about half the price) i say just go get a netbook, the newer AMD C50 ones rock and its a real computer, no compromisers (can even get an 11" with decent res for this sort of money too)

    • Just saying
    • +3

I really don't think that the ipad is worth that much either. Definitely heaps of markup on it as well. Both apple devices and android have their pros and cons I guess. And the app store has been available for longer. I don't think its really fair to compare 2 tablets based on apps available that neither tablet manufacturers made. I have no problems with accurate zooming, btw.

      • i dont understand why s/he had problem with zooming either. i always think it is ridiculouse to compare the number of the app available. 5million means as much as 5 billion to the majority of the users globably. how many apps do you need and install on your tablets?

ipad, similar to iphone, suits the kind of people who have no/limited experience on these kind of gadgets. after two years stuck with 3gs, now i opted SGS2. (but i still get a 4s from the company recently:)

      • I like to view flash which is why I went see tranny over another overpriced apple product..

    • ability to detach from keyboard, touchscreen and android might be seen as benefits over a netbook

    • you've not used the transformer before have you? It's nothing like a netbook.. thats the whole point. lol.

no doubt transformer is expensive, it has far more features than an ipad and at a much lesser price point.
That's all it matters in ozbargain ;) No point justifying why you paid more for an apple product, because obviously people like you don't mind paying.

Let's be clear. This is a 16GB Tablet. I'll repeat that because it bears repeating: This tablet is 16 GB.

They're bundling a 16GB MicroSD card with it, and calling it "32GB*". They also seem to be down-voting each comment where people call this practice into question.

Now, I up-voted the deal - and even bought it from them over the weekend. I'm hoping they send it to me within the promised 4-6 working days. At the time, I hesitated because the Transformer Prime was coming out - but then decided this was still a fairly great deal. But at the time, I assumed I was buying a 32GB Tablet.

I have purchased a 16GB tablet, and I no longer think it's a fairly great deal. I think it's an ok deal, I was in the market for a tablet and this will still suit my needs. Barely. Am I happy? Not especially. Will I complain/return the tablet? Probably not - the price is still fair for what they're delivering.
