  • so that's the new psp?

    • It's a new, budget model of the existing PSP, with no wireless features, and a mono speaker only. It's not the completely new successor to the PSP — that's the PlayStation Vita, which is coming next year.

      I'm planning on picking up this one, since I don't have a PSP yet. The lack of wifi doesn't bother me, since I never play online, and you still have access to the PlayStation Store through your PC (it's a little less convenient, but at this pricetag, it doesn't bother me). The speaker doesn't bother me either, since I always use headphones anyway.

      • you can get a second hand one from ebgames for 89$ with wifi in it. just a heads up for you and those that don't mind second hand and want wifi and better speaker.

    just a note to everyone,
    the e1000 model of the psp does not have wifi and only has mono speakers

    • i think this psp is budget model so you can't expect everything at this price point.
      PS Vita is on the way with all the fruits but at much higher price.
      PS Vita Wireless - $349
      PS Vita Wireless 3G - $449

      If you're not that interested in internet play, would the lack of wifi that big an issue? Apart from internet play, what would the lack of wifi preclude you from doing?

      The $129 price tag is tempting, but I'm unsure how big a factor the lack of wifi would be.

        Also there's remote watching of TV via your PlayTV, browsing/downloading from the Playstation Store, or generally browsing the internet. Not sure how valuable each of these are to everyone, but nevertheless they're features you'll be missing or have to access another way.

        • Thanks for the reply. I think for me the main drawback would be the lack of network/multiplayer play. Web browsing is fairly cumbersome IMO and the PS Store access/purchases can be done via PC and USB cable.

          I didn't know you could stream TV via PS3+PlayTV. That would be pretty neat, though unfortunately I don't have a PS3 :(

  • Isn't this particular model of PSP highly hackable?

    • +1

      they all hackable

    • Went out and got one this morning. For general interest, the unit came with OFW 6.60 and I was able to get CFW 6.60 PRO B10 running on it without any major issues.

      Regarding the unit itself:

      Likes:
      * Nice matte finish.
      * MS slot exposed (not hidden behind a cover), allowing for easy access.
      * Inexpensive

      Dislikes:
      * Select/Start control strip across the bottom of the screen are not touch buttons but physical buttons concealed under a plastic strip, which reduces the responsiveness of the buttons and makes that part of the console feel kinda cheap.
      * Power/MS card activity LEDs are located on the top edge of the console. Cannot see them in normal usage without deliberately tilting the unit to look at them.
      * Non-replaceable battery

      Overall, I still much prefer the PSP 3000 and if you can still find a new one for a similar/better price then I'd say go for it.

      With that said, the E1000 is still a decent console overall IMO and its pricing still makes it a fair buy if you're after a brand new console for yourself or as a gift for someone else.

    Didn't Myer have the PSP go's and also the psp slim 3100's for $129 a few months back?

    • Pretty sure they did, but those deals are long gone now as they were clearing out their stock from their online store.

      • Yeah true, but those deals were still better in comparison to this deal I think!

        • +1

          Definitely no arguments there, though I guess the comparison isn't that useful for those who happen to be in the market for one right now.

        • Those deals sold out very quickly though, and are long gone.

  • Wifi is very important to play co-op or versus with other psps
    Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker is a great game to play with 1-3 of your friends and
    necessary to defeat the hardest bosses

    • Networking is pretty important and co-op is great fun, yes, but I did manage to beat the main storyline in Peacewalker by myself (mainly because my friends weren't so interested in that game) >.<

    I saw PSP's I think 3000 model from DJ clearance for $99 just the other day. This included the standard black no bundle and the hannah montana bundle for the same price.

  • not a great deal considering the 3000's can be bought for $99 here and there with sales.

    • If you know of a better deal, feel free to share.

      Most of the cheap PSP deals were very limited quantity, and sold out fast.

  • Cheap PSP Games would be good

  • Apart from games, what can a psp do?
    Can i watch tv on it?

    • In Japan theres a TV tuner add-on.

      PSPs can watch videos or music among it's official legitimate functions. I used to use the video player a lot, put TV shows on it to watch on the bus while going to work/lunch/or going back home.
