Victoria, Metcard: No point in 5 x Daily Fare tickets?
Someone just pointed this out to me … it didn’t use to be this way
10 x 2 hour ticket and 5 x Daily tickets cost the same amount.
According to the metcard website
“No more than two 2 hour periods will be deducted per day. For example, a ticket validated at 9.05am will expire at 12pm. If the ticket is used again at 1.30pm on the same day, it will then be valid until 3am the following day.”

So, apart from saving on validating effort, the 10 x 2 hour ticket may be better for a lot of people, on the off chance they occasionally need to travel only once that day, by public transport …
To the moderators, would this be okay to post as a bargain? Not sure how many Metcard users are aware of this …
Has anyone tried this out? Because it sounds like an error in wording. The description for a single 2-hour ticket still reads that it can only be validated once, but when you buy a 10 pack, each can be validated twice? Doesn’t really make sense…
If this is true, 10 pack of 2 hours ticket would probably work out to be cheaper than weekly or monthly ticket over the long run, even if you use public transport twice a day, five days a week without break.
Well can a weekly ticket for Zone 1 be used across Zone 2? If so, that’s another advantage of buying weekly ticket than 10 x 2.
Oops, I meant to say can a weekly ticket for Zone 1 be used across Zone 2 ON WEEKENDS..
Except if you use public transport all day then you really need a daily.
For example, I use a train to get to uni every day, but during the day also use trams to get around the city. So if I used a 2 x two-hourly I would be spending more because of the all the times between going in/going out.
As of Jan 1,
Weekly/Monthly/Yearly tickets are not valid on every zone on weekends.

You’re exactly right. By validating your two-hour metcard twice in a day, it becomes a daily ticket.
I was rather surprised when I found out but it has been this way for years.
