    good price. will run cm7

  • Only really good for Optus and its resellers as it doesn't support 3G 850 which is basically required for Vodafone and Telstra.

    Locked to Optus.

    Rooting instructions here.

But the megaupload links no longer work, so you may have to hunt for some files elsewhere.

    Even cheaper than Aldi's prices.

$50 for an Android smartphone — must be a new record! Sadly the slow-ass CPU will infuriate most users who are expecting it to handle web browsing. Force closes quite often on larger pages.

edit: looks like the deal is expired.

    • Yeap. And there will be retards who will complain how slow Android is. I mean what do you expect? Iphone like speeds with nokia prices? Dafuq?

    Scored one already. Fingers crossed.

  • Can CM9 & ICS be installed on this?

If not ICS then at least v2.3.

    • +1

This one can take CM7 and runs fairly zippily if you overclock it. CM2.3.7.

Search on XDA for the CM7 Rom. One has multitouch activated.

Screen res is terrible but it's really quite pocketable. Can't knock it for $50 though!

It would be a great little phone for young students in Year 7 or 8… But when you think about it, most of them have fruit phones now.

I used to use a brick when I was in year 7.

          Whats a fruit phone?

        • +2

          Fruit = Apple.

          Fruit phone.

          Definitely a double meaning there.

Got one of these at Aldi the other week, unlocked and now using Vodafone, which coverage is comparable to the iPhone coverage the sim came from. Not bad for $50.

    • How do you unlock it? I want to unlock mine..

      • o_O! I cannot unlock mine, I purchased it for $89 from Optus…
They keep giving me the wrong unlock code.
I checked on whirlpool and they said to contact the TIO, but I would have to send my phone in.
        Are there alternatives?

I just googled unlock x1, looked at a bunch of websites, and chose one. One i used was www.simnetworkunlockpin.com it was about $10. They sent me three codes a couple of days later, and shazam, worked a treat.

Apparently if you try and unlock it too many times (around 10), you need a unlock unlock code!

        • cheers for that link beachmuscles.. the code i got on ebay for a u8150 didn't work because it needs a further subnet unlock code =\

  • Good price but screen is too small and resolution is terrible. Phone is also very laggy. I would highly recommend to spend the extra $30-40 to get the Huawei X3 or LG Optimus One (P500). You will be much happier in the long run.
