expired Jetstar 2 for 1 Flights to Japan - from $369 One Way for 2 People
This was posted 1 year 3 months 6 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Looks like Jetstar are having their 2 for 1 sale again to Japan.
Travel periods look to be 8 April - 2 May 2012 and 9 May - 18 July 2012 - Perfect for those wishing to catch the Cherry Blossoms!
I definitely would jump on these if I hadn't just arrived back from Tokyo on the weekend, but will share and hope some of you can save some $$$

+4 voteshumdingaling on 14/02/2012 - 18:44 ¶so for ex sydney
its 259.50 for 1 and 519 (double that)for 2..all the rest looks like a similar scenario
how is that even 2 for 1?

I agree, my girlfriend and I just booked our japan flights (had been waiting a while for a deal) but also found it hard to work out exactly how the special worked.
even though we booked sydney to osaka, and tokyo to sydney outside of the sale period it was still cheaper than it had been for the last few months leading up…so we decided not to tempt fate and booked.
I have no idea how they can call it 2 for 1, unless there is something wrong with the site.
+1 voteI don't really understand why this sales is called "2 for 1". 1 passenger costs $184.50, then 2 cost exactly double that. It's really 2 for 2.
Also, in the 1st paragraph underneath the bold heading in the link, it says:
"When you book 2 or more specially marked sale economy Starter fares together and only pay for one!"
Does that mean if I book for the whole plane I only have to pay for 1?
YadaYadaYada on 14/02/2012 - 19:12 ¶Maybe it's the variation in taxes? The ticketed fare might actually be 2 for 1, but the taxes on top of that remain the same.

I have to agree, this is not how their normal 2 for 1 sales work. Usually it would be the total fare for one = the fare for 2, this appears to just be a normal sale. That said, I am able to get return flights Sydney-Tokyo for $503 (+ luggage) for 1 which is pretty close to what the 2-4-1 sales used to be like anyway.

+3 votesMy partner and I just got back from 3 weeks in Japan from a previous jetstar sale. We had the time of our life, had never been before. Never been to a country where the people are so friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful place and we can't wait to go back again. I was about to click book on these airfares before she stopped me, too many other things to pay for atm lol. Go, you won't regret it!
And to the OP, we were probably on the same flight back from Tokyo lol. We also got back on the weekend.

My girlfriend and I spent two weeks in Tokyo and we absolutely loved it. My girlfriend loved the people and the culture, not to mention the food and shopping lol. So many quirky and fun things to do like 24 hour batting centre in the middle of the red light district or 24 hour shopping at Don Quijote.
Wouldn't surprise me if we were on the same flight lol, it was surprisingly crowded for an overnight flight.

We spent a few days everywhere. Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and then a week in Niseko skiing plus a few days at the Sapporo ice festival. Amazing holiday. Yeh we were on the sat night flight, it was packed. Considering our flight over there was only 1/4 full literally! The food and shopping were insane, the mrs loved it lol.

+1 votefrozenkuku on 15/02/2012 - 02:47 ¶still ends up nearly 1000 per person from adelaide to tokyo
i don't think i will ever get 600 per person buy one get one free deal anymore.
sign.
i want go japan
frozenkuku on 15/02/2012 - 08:55 ¶yeah, so my final price for 2 people is close to 2000, returned flight.
adelaide to gold coast really pushed the price up a lot

Unfortunately unless something has changed it has never been practical to fly to Japan from Adelaide on jetstar, due to timing it has always required an overnight stopover at cairns or the gold coast.
The cheapest sale fare alternative seems to be qantas, they get as low as $1024 return via Sydney when sales are on and for some dates only.
We are flying there with Cathay for $1111 return, if you book far enough ahead it's relatively easy to get it for this price.
Of course this is nowhere near the jetstar price. Which is why I want scoot, jetstar Asia or airasiax to fly to Adelaide and soon!

I'm also in Adelaide and can't take advantage of Jetstar's offers. Once two extra flights are booked to MLB or SYD the cost difference between Jetstar and a full service airline becomes quite small. For example, I was looking to travel to Japan this month and saw Malaysia Airline offering ex ADL to NRT airfares for just over $1k, inc taxes, food and luggage.
The other thing to remember is Jetstar don't offer connecting flights from ADL to KIX/NRT. If your domestic flight is late/fogged in/engineering issued you'll forfeit the whole trip. Too much risk for me.
+2 votesWill be back in Japan in April for our honeymoon! Can't wait.
Interesting times ahead, by the end of the year there will be three (real)low-cost carriers launching in Japan; which should flood the market with cheap fares. Peach (March), Jetstar Japan (July), AirAsia Japan (August). This is great news for us bargainers wanting to reach Sapporo or Okinawa, or really any major city in Japan at bus-fare prices. Also great for short-haul international flights to Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong etc.! Right now those flights are surprisingly expensive!
IDontWantToSign... on 15/02/2012 - 15:15 ¶A surprisingly insightful comment - especially that end part about short haul to other countries. +1 :)
bluesuby09 on 15/02/2012 - 11:37 ¶The 2-4-1 as I read it is only available one way ie: Syd-Tokyo but not the other way. So unless your stars align the return can be expensive. The return fares are quite high for a short stay (5-7 days)

Thanks OP for posting this. While I wasn't planning on going to Japan, I am planning on going to the US in June. The 2 for 1 sale to Osaka + a $660 RT fare directly to NY was slightly cheaper than flying direct via LAX. No idea what's going on with AUS-US flights ATM but pretty happy breaking up the trip.
+2 votesI used skyscanner which picked up a China Airlines direct flight to NY. The site offering the deal is edreams. This was the only site offering it and the price on CAL's website was a lot more. I was very surprised as the next fare price after the $669 was about $1300! I believe it's limited to a couple of days in early June.
I booked it thinking it must be a mistake but they issued my tickets so I'm happy. I also spoke to them on the phone (called Spain) due to my stupid Citibank card blocking any international charges.
EDIT: Just did the search again and it brought up the same fare with lastminue, opordo, and travelpack. June 4. Not sure about other dates.
petestrash on 16/02/2012 - 18:57 ¶Might want to keep checking your flights on checkmytrip or similar.
A Lot of people have had problems with edreams cancelling reservations, after they have been confirmed.
Do a google search for "edreams Scam" you'll find 148,000 results…

Thanks for the link petestrash. A lot of those results are very dramatic titles but negligence on the part of users. The charging in Euros is a bit of a concern as I was quoted in Australian dollars and received a receipt in AUD. I'll have to check my statement. As for the validity of the ticket, I went to China Airline's website, entered in my booking reference, and the ticket details showed up. I did book the Jetstar 2 for 1 tickets using direct deposit as I was waiting for confirmation from the edreams leg. I'm hoping I can call up Jetstar and ask to pay via credit card. That should be possible right?
petestrash on 17/02/2012 - 00:51 ¶I never heard of the company till there was an ozbargain post for groupon voucher from them. I purchased some of the vouchers, but I cannot redeem them. which is when I did a search for info on edreams, and found a heap of complaints. some of which are customer issues, but many others that show the company was not all that reputable. In the end I have had to ask my bank for a Credit Card reversal which I am still waiting for.
As a side note, I have also had heaps of trouble with citibank blocking foreign transactions. So I now only use the 28degrees mastercard for foreign transactions, without any issues at all.
No idea about changing jetstar payment from DD to CC, you might have to go through the call centre and pay the call centre fees?

Ah petestrash, I feel the pain of Citibank. They called me this morning, a day later, and asked me if I authorized the transaction. By that time, I had already called up and given my partner's credit card as payment which went through fine. Her card is the secondary card on my account! Every time I have a blocked payment for things internationally, I just use my partner's card and it goes through. Makes no sense at all. So when I complained about it this morning, they said they couldn't take these blocks off but can issue another card which supposedly doesn't have these issues. So now I have no credit card until Monday. The whole thing is stupid and I really need to apply for a different card. /rant
As for Jetstar, I called them and was able to pay for the booking although got hit with their ripoff $40 credit card fee. So I originally wanted to spend an extra day in Osaka but the fare difference was about $60 each so I didn't bother. For some reason, they moved my originally scheduled flight leaving Osaka at 8:20PM to 8:50PM. Jetstar has a policy that if there is a schedule change, you can go with the new time or alternatively go on the previous or next flight with no fees. So was able to change to the next day for no charge. $120 fare difference for free!
petestrash on 17/02/2012 - 02:08 ¶Yeah I had the same BS from Citibank, they told me I also needed a new card as Visa International told them my card has been skimmed. I spoke with Visa International and they have made no such recommendation to Citibank. I told Citibank that the CS Rep lied to me and all I wanted was a call before blocking payments as they did in the past 5 years. I Struggled on with this for 6 months and ended up getting their consumer advocacy department involved. They have apparently removed the blocks, but I just don't trust the card on international transactions any more. I still have the same card and have not had any suspect transactions in the 12 months since, but now I only use it for local payments as I don't want to risk it being declined and use 28degrees instead.
But glad Jetstar worked out for you, and hope edreams also comes to the party.

How can this sale be cheaper than Airasia? From previous Airasia sale for travel period from Apr to Jun, I can get return ticket from MEL-KL for about $300 + return ticket KL-Tokyo for $160, so total is only $460 return. The current sale is for Sep - Jan next year is even cheaper.

I am slightly confused as to how this works. I am on the site looking at tickets at the beginning of June and nothing seems to be on sale. Is it only selected flights with the 'sale' banner, or are those just standard sale items. I have a feeling they calculate the sale offer later on in the process of selecting tickets, but aren't sure. Can anyone help?

Awesome, I was hoping this would come up again
