There are a lot better headphones out there now because the price has gone up considerably, thanks to the hype amongst audiophiles, Shure 840 and Brainwavz HM5 are considerably better (technically, you may like the M50s sound signature better but technically not as good as the ones I've mentioned)

Brainwavz HM5 are arguably better, very different sound signatures though.

They are better than the $700 beats by dre, that's what.

I've got a pair of M50's (not the anniversary edition). I love them.

Got them from Amazon US for about $150AUD including delivery.

I think the price has gone up a bit though.

    •

Yeah I found another place which had a similar price a few months back for about $140.

    From AUSTRALIA. (Out of stock.)

    BUT!

Walk into ANY Audio Technica outlet in Australia and they will price-match it. (This is how I got mine, and my friend aswell.)

Same here, the nice people at Audio Technica in Westfield Sydney price matched to $169 for me on the spot.

      •

        That's where I got mine. ;)

I advise doing this to test them out and make sure you enjoy the sound produced by them as to one person headphones may sound great and to another they may sound good, but not great.

Mn……..i bought a ATH-AD700 couple years ago, my only complaint is that it's a bit too light on bass, the rest is great, esp it is extremely comfy to wear, you can literally wear it all day long without feeling your ear being squashed at the end.

I always have a thing with headphone, so very tempted with this deal, but i found no justification to get one since i don't even use my AD700 that much at all………darn..

    •

Yeah my mate has them and I love the way they suspend next to your ears, amazing comfort. If I was ever in a situation where I was primarily using headphones as opposed a speaker setup for most of the day, they would definately be my choice.

Recently purchased these from soundprofessionals.com for about $160

BTW, aside from the silver colour with blue ring around the earphones (mentioned above), anyone knows what's the diff between this anniversary edition and the normal edition?

    • +5 votes

Why is there 500+ editions of Monopoly available for multiple times the price of a almost replica game? Why are pink things always on clearance? Why buy Product Red ipod instead of buying another colour cheaper then using the difference to donate yourself? Why pay $100 instead of $49 for a limited edition version of the game?

The answer is: It's in demand - people want it. Limited availability and less possibility of discounting occur for most of the Limited Edition, Anniversary Edition or Special Edition items/products.

In most things the price of them always go up, up, up over time while the normal editions go way down.

+1 this is a bargain unless you can find it cheaper elsewhere for the same product

A bit off topic, but any good recommendations for sub $150 headphones that are quite comfy, reasonably light, with a good amount of bass (not too much)

    Closed ear preferably

    Thanks

Same brand model A700 is around $150. Good reviews too not sure of weight thou.

I found the above to be a pretty comprehensive review of a variety of headphones. Just need to check for the price here, or order from overseas if you can wait.

If you can stretch your budget by $20, the ATH-M50 is probably a good choice.

I've had a look here, but still not too sure. I'm looking at the AD700's and the M50's right now.

        Thanks

I've got both the AD700's and the M50. Both are fantastic, but they are for different uses.

AD700 - Open headphones, meaning everyone will be able to hear what you are playing. It's not meant for outdoors. I use it on my computer. They are very comfortable, light, and sound amazing. Not for bass heads however. Don't try use these when you are around people as it'll just leak a ton of sound.

M50 - Closed headphones, can use it on trains, outdoors etc. Bit more bass, bit punchy. Great headphones. I use it on my daily travel.

    They are both excellent.

      Man~I am almost sold here…..

      M50 certainly has great reviews everywhere….mn….decision decision…

Prefer to price match in store instead of ordering online though…

  •

    •
