Was in at BigW today and got these prices. They were pretty open about prices which was good. They had this leaflet out on the counter, so to prove that this does not belong in the forums!

wow… thats a decent discount on an ipad, and on launch day as well…

    • +1

So I guess nobody have to lines up at the apple store ey :P

        • +4

Except, it isn't. I have a xoom. i should know how laggy it is.

    • I reckon! I got my ipad 2 at ~$580 around launch time (apple store)

  • Anyone work at BIGW? :P

    • :D the one time its good to get an early shift..

      • From memory, I don't think worker can get early dip…

        • +8

I used to work in retail and we always put items aside that we wanted that were on discount. The only perk to working in retail :)

        • +4

Think they're more interested in the workers discount card

        • haha true, but I remember last year my friend try to nick one himself and got told employees have to wait. Maybe differ store to store :P

    • +3

This makes not getting a discount at Dans worthwhile!

    • It will be a bonus if it is a sweet chick =D

  • Wow not a bad deal, cheers OP.

  • Officeworks Price match?

    • +1

      OW don't offer iPads unfortunately

    • -1

Maybe DSE price match for availability. Get 5% off for Woolworths staff discount and if paid with Infinite Rewards Prepaid Wish Cards thats another 5% off.

  • -2

Wait, aren't there shops that will beat prices, for example, by 5%?
    Dammit, I can't think of one… I remember there are quite a couple…

    • +2

Oh, that's right, Office Works, as LoopyLou stated. "We'll beat it by 5%"
EDIT: nvm, OW doesn't sell ipads, unfortunately

      • JB-HI does sell iPads - I think they will price match - but not beat it .. any one know for sure?

        • u can sometimes get JB to beat the price, depends on the sales guy

        • +1

No chance they'll beat the ipad price. Match yes but NO WAY beat, theres like no margin in apple products as it is.

        • JBHIFI always slow, they may get stock after 2 month.

        • I can guaranteed they wont pricematch unless they have stock.
They will just sell to the person willing to pay full price.
I could be wrong, if so please post success stories :D!

        • +2

If people are going to be lining up to get them for whatever the price is I can hardly see anyone offering a discount at this stage. You'll have to wait until the excitement is over I'd think.

    • +1

I think I remember reading on WP that Apple stores have a policy to match any advertised price…they're just not very open about it.

You ask the staff about their "Best Price policy" or something like that??

      Can anyone confirm this?

      • Apple does price match. The sales told us when we were looking at an iMac and dick smith had 10% off macs at that time.

        • i have personally tried to price match and apple will price match
however lets say if kogan has 15% off ipads then apple will only do 10% MAX
          =)

        • Which is really 5% more than what they should.

      • +1

Yes - I can confirm. DSE were doing 10% of all Apple but did not stock the MacMini in my local store. I went to the Apple store, and asked. The guy said no problem once he could confirm the DSE 10% off. He went to the website, saw the advert and went yep, no bother. $899 MacMini for $800. I was and still am happy about that.

On a side note, I also jumped on the NetPlus 4gb sticks of RAM for $20 so upgraded the MacMini for 8gb. I also like how the MacMini supports dual monitors so I have it hooked up to two 23' Dell IPS monitors - which I also snagged for $210 each thanks to OZB!

        Pretty sweet setup for $1200.

Anyways - back to the topic.

        • +5

The great thing is the guys working in the Apple stores have no idea how to calculate 10% off and so are open to manipulation :)

        • +14

They need the 10% off app.

        • +2

And the Calculator app that doesnt come pre-installed on iPad.

  • where did you get the pricing from? didn't notice it from the link.

    • +1

      inside info.

        • +9

I'm sorry, but I'm a Samsung Galaxy Tab enthusiast and even I know the Tab 2's aren't worth getting. No huge improvements over the last gen models, especially considering the movement to Tegra 3's, or in the new iPad's case, the [insert ridiculously huge number of pixels here] pixel Retina Display.
I dislike Apple as much as the next Android guy, but even I can tell a worthwhile purchase and discount (for some) when I see one. Better to sit back and wait for the competition, dude. No one loses in this field :)

        • +9

Whoa, Careful mate, these apple people are a little nutty, you're not allowed to voice a differing opinion to the iThing unless it's about the colour, size or connectivity of your future iThing. You know they can't see past the name, they get that apple logo gleam in their eyes and rational thought goes out the window.
On another note seems like the pricing structure is finally starting to reflect our stronger dollar.

  • +5

There is no such thing as the iPad3.

It is called "The New iPad" :P

    • +1

i.e. The third generation ipad… hence, ipad 3….

      • +3

I thought it was the iiiPad

    • yeah, I just thought Ipad would stand out better lol.

    • +2

your quotes are in the wrong place..
It is called the new "iPad"….. :P

      • +4

        Not the "new" iPad?

        • +46

you're all wrong, it's "the" new iPad

        • -3

"it's" the new Ipad, taa daaa

        • -1

          pwned

    • "the new ipad" is so silly, Jobs will be pissed off if he knows. people will still call it ipad 3

      • +1

The term "The new ipod…." has being around when old Jobsey was still kickin' this just brings the Ipad inline with the other product lines.

    • +2

you can always resold this ipad as New Ipad in the future :D

  • -1

    link lists no prices???

    • because this is inside info lol.

      • -8

ok i see the link you put up in your edit

  • Officeworks do NOT sell the iPads, when I checked last week.

    • Sorry, yeah, you're right.

  • +3

    Source?

  • I am awaiting target's move on this, because I only have coles staff card.

    • Target will also be selling The new Ipad! Awesome~

      • +1

If it's true… I heard there is a Double Discount at Target for Coles Group Staff Card.

        • -1

What's that? I know if you work at westfarmer, you get a 15% discount card, although you can only use it once every quarter..

      • Sorga, can you substantiate your comment:

I know if you work at westfarmer, you get a 15% discount card, although you can only use it once every quarter.

I assume you mean "Wesfarmers". Care to tell me and the other 200,000 employees how we get that card ?

  • +1

Wow. They are going to get HAMMERED. Hope they've got lots of stock…

Hoping for a Myer price match, since I've got a few Myer gift cards.

  • Great of them to have it lower than RRP.

They'd sell out of them no matter what price they give, and to put it less than RRP is a great effort.

  • +1

The discount on 4G Ipad is much less than the wifi only models.

    • +2

4g component of the new ipad is incompatible with telstras new 4g network for obtaining 4g speeds

      link - http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/tablets/new-ipads-4g-mark…

      • I prefer to get mobile broadband, rather than tethering. Even if 4G does not work, you can still access the internet.

        • +1

and if you have Telstra 3g you will be able to use the new Ipad dual band feature and it will be pretty bloody quick anyway.

      • +1

no current "4g" network meets the standards anyway….

    • Yes. This deal is $1 less than my preorder from apple. Where's the bargain?

      • +2

The bargain is in the Wifi models obviously.

      • +1

Exactly $1 is what ozbargain is about saving the $ :-) , also some are actually going to get these before stock runs out :-( then it will be tears like the Mwave router deal :-)

        • -1

Well, lets see….for $1 more I'm having it delivered to my door. Or I could save $1 and DRIVE to bigw?

  • I'm happy with my iPad 2 but this is a great deal, nice one OP!

    • Ditto, especially since it cost 698$ for the 64 gb 3G version :)

  • Good News Everyone! If BIGW was to advertise this publicly, and the rest of Harvey Normal "Best Price Guarantee" conditions, provided here: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/customer-service/best-price-g…
Then, I think we can get it cheaper! - That's if Harvey Norman doesn't find a bullshit excuse, like most times. I've read through the conditions, and it seems that most of the criteria is met; other than that it is not yet advertised by BIGW themselves.
But if we trust the OP, then hopefully we can get a cheaper price! :D
BTW, which one are you guys planning to get?

    • +2

Never trust this. Have seen numerous cases where the price beating didn't work.

      • +1

As I've said… Only if Harvey Norman doesn't give the bullshit excuses.

    • LOL if you can get a sales person to stay long enough to try and price match

  • -1

I am almost gonna neg this deal on principle, since Apple sells it as a "4g" model when in fact it does not connect to Telstra's 4G LTE network.

    • +3

does it connect to 3g though?

    • Telstra is not the only one with 4G, wait till later this week ;)

      • +1

no 4G compatible with Ipad til 2015

        • I have iPad 2 WIFI only and if I knew what I know now, would have gone for the 3G version, due solely to WIFI only model doesn't have GPS.

        • 2015!!!! $45bn being spent on the NBN. :(

    • +2

Not apple, big w or the posters fault that telstra's 4g is incompatable.

Great deal and it will still work on 3G networks.

      • +4

Still Apple's (and resellers') fault for promoting it heavily as 4G*

        (*coverage varies)

    • +2

Don't buy the 4G model then?

      • We can use the 3G still.

    • +3

no current "4g" network meets the standards anyway…

    • when in fact it does not connect to Telstra's 4G LTE

In Fact, Telstra's LTE does not qualify as a 4G network either. Better than HSPA, but does not meet 4G minimum. Its just marketing bull.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G

  • +3

they are only 10$ less than the apple rrp ones lol(comparing the apple 64gb online pre-order one to this one). How would this deal match against kogan's?

    • Kogan does not inc shipping. Shipping roughly brings it u to $500

      • So take for example:

The 64GB WiFi Model from kogan
        Price: 669+29(shipping)= 698$ only?!

        Kogan(698) vs BigW(748)??!

  • So just looking at my stores opening hours

    Thursday: 8:30 - Midnight
    Friday: 8:30 - Midnight

Hmm hang around like a bad smell on Thursday or line up Friday morning?

    • i checked my local one and it closes at 9pm? :S

  • Is everyone Getting the 16 WIFI?? Just wondering what are most people interested in.
I am hoping to get a 16 Wifi Black…and hope not much competition out there for the new toy

    • +3

I've pre-ordered a Black 64GB WI-FI from Apple. It's $11 cheaper from BigW, but I've got free delivery, engraving and guaranteed delivery so I'm not too worried about the difference.
