Logitech Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 for $159 Delivered @ LTS!
This was posted 1 year 1 month 23 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Great price for great earphones! Be aware they are a little on the large side so they might not fit in everyone's ears.
I ended up reshelling mine into a custom with an added driver through Unique Melody - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38946

+2 votesI would say 100%, my friend put some apple earbuds in and was listening to music saying how great it sounded, I gave him my UE 700's and after listening to them he put the apple buds in and said it sounded bad now.
Basically I find that while the music does sound better, I find I can't tell the major difference until I put some lower quality earbuds in but I think if you love listening to music spending $ is worth it.
CyberGenesys on 27/03/2012 - 12:21 ¶I'm sure they sound better than the Apple ones simply due to the way they interface with the ear. Just like the UE200 they have a noise isolating (? I think thats the right word) effect, they fit into the ear rather than resting in it. I have used 99c earphones that sound better than the Apple ones :)
My comment was twofold (although perhaps too brief);
- In-ear earphones are not usually ideal because they don't block outside noise. I imagine these are like the UE200 and do it very well though.
- Physically they appear very similar to the UE200 (in the way they interface with the ear) which is why I was raising the comparison. Obviously there are technical differences, but I believe they are wasted (see point above)I found that the biggest problem I had with UE200 was that my shirt/jumper/whatever would rub on the cable and produce a 'scratching' noise which I could hear (I assume created vibrations up through the cable). It would be hard to spend this much money if it still had the same problem. I suspect that by feeding the cable over the ears (as these do?) would remove the issue.
+3 votescaprimulgus on 27/03/2012 - 13:09 ¶1) say what? in-ear monitors are ideal for that exact purpose: blocking out outside noise. that is the exact reason for the design, for isolation. and yes, these are isolating IEMs like the UE200, however they are likely to have much better isolation (i haven't looked into it). isolation depends on many elements of the design, and a high-end IEM like this is most likely going to have way better isolation than a cheap IEM.
edit: i think i understand that you are trying to differentiate ipod earphones from IEM's (UE200). replace "apple earphones" with "UE200" or "low end IEMs", and redmoon's comment will still stand. the point is, low-end vs high-end: yes, there is definitely a difference.
2) they are similar in that they are both IEM/"canal-phones", yes. that is like saying a corolla is like a ferrari, because they are both cars. both will get you from A to B, but one will do it quicker/more comfortably/make you feel like your penis is bigger/etc.
3) yes, microphonics (the sound you're hearing when the cable rubs) is a problem associated with IEMs. however, the effect depends on the earphone - some are a lot worse than others. the UE200 is the worst i have ever come across in terms of microphonics. the triple.fi's have over-the-ear memory wire, which not only holds the earpieces in place, but significantly diminishes microphonics. so no, the triple.fi's will not exhibit the same microphonics as UE200. FYI, i modded my UE200 with a makeshift paperclip (over-the-ear) memory wire. microphonics are no longer a problem.
4) at the end of the day, whether triple.fi's are worth the extra over UE200 depends entirely on how you value quality. just like whether a ferrari (or even just a honda accord) is worth the extra over a corolla. but yes, if you care about quality of your music, then triple.fi's are likely to be worth the money. as an owner of both halfway decent IEMs (super.fi 5EB) and low end IEMs (UE200), for me personally they each have their place, but you get what you pay for.
FYI, even the RRP of $499 is nothing compared to what some people pay for IEMs. my next upgrade (likely to be custom IEMs) will easily be in that vacinity - $499 is pretty much the starting price for customs!

backsideslappy on 27/03/2012 - 09:58 ¶The TF10's are the only recommendable IEM's in the UE range, bar maybe the UE700's if you are fond of their sound. At this price, I'd say they are very well priced. I'd pick up a set if I hadn't just ordered a pair of Fischer DBA-02 MKIIs last week.
Great soundstage, good isolation, and reasonably solid bass for an armature headphone.

I got a pair when amazon had it cheap, only thing to say is that its intended to be worn upside down and this has been known to cause some problems for some people to get a perfect fit
I personally loved mine and even got a custom cord (you can change cord) to enhance the sound quality…

I'm actually in the market for earphones since the mic and the remote on my current Klipsch S4i is not working any longer. I only ever had standard Apple headphones and S4i's, so I'm not familiar with other brands and models. Before i saw this i was basically deciding on whether to go for another set of S4i's or perhaps Klipsch X10i (even though they are a bit more than what i wanted to spend).
A few questions about these TripleFi 10's:
1. Are they compatible to work with iPhone, e.g. is there a mic and a remote and if so, where abouts is it located, e.g. near the ear piece or in the middle like S4i?
2. How does S4i compare to these Logitech TripleFi 10 earphones in terms of sounds and reliability??
3. How long is the warranty?Any suggestions about my considerations and/or any other brands and models i should be looking at would be great.

- They're not compatible in terms of not having a mic.
- In terms of sound and reliability, I highly doubt you'll find a pair of earphones that will beat the triple.fi at this price.
- I'm guessing it has one year warranty.
How much is your budget, everyone can recommend you the IE8, SE535, Westone um3 but they're hard on your wallet.

Thanks mate. I'm definitely looking for something with a mic and a remote so it must be compatible with the iPhone in terms of that, which unfortunately take these out of equation. As for my budget, ideally, i didn't want to spend anything more than $150, but for something better I'm be willing to stretch to $200 if the extra is really worth it. I'm not really an audiophile by any means and i am more than happy with the sound quality i get from my S4i's, but considering this is my second S4i set I've had in the last 2 years, I'm questioning its durability. Both of them still work fine in terms of earphones, but one has some wires exposed, while the other has a broken mic and a remote.

A-jay's are headphones that are made for iphones, they have a little remote on the cord which gives you controll over the iphone for taking calls, volume etc. They have a flat cable which I think is really nice (think sata cable) and the sound quality is decent.

I have a pair of Triple.fi 10 and Shure SE215. The consensus on Headfi.org is that Triple.fi > SE215 > Image S4. If you compare them side-by-side the Triple.fi wins by a wide margin. If you use amps or have PowerAmp on Android the Triple.fi makes the Image S4 sound like knock-offs.

they work with iphones, theres no remote but you can buy a replacement cable that come with a mic (that cord is like 30-40 bucks).. you can try either s5i or a-jays fours if you want remote
I have both s4i, the cord is rubbish on s4i and the logitech is definitely better and more of a surround feel
sorry dont know, you need to check logitechshop for that

actually it does have remote apparently
its a bit different than s4i remote… (one click pauses/resumes audio, double click advanes track… so you cant adjust volume or go back on this remote)
i have one at home but never used it after i got an upgrade cable
but heres where u get it
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/REPLACEMENT-CABLE-INTEGRATED-MICR...
its really easy to change cord.. easier than playing with lego

I own a pair of x10 and they are amazing, though they are single armature, they are definitely comparable to the TF10s. Tf10s would definitely be a step up from the S4's but at a dearer price.
If you're looking for a decent pair of IEMs with mic on a lower budget, Mp4Nation are currently doing a special on the BrainWavz M4 (check out Head-Fi for reviews). If you search around the net there is also a FB 5% off code.
http://mp4nation.net/catalog/brainwavz-m4-iem-earphones-p-65...Credit goes to the Head-Fi forum

I don't mind spending a bit more on something as long as i know they are at least as good as S4i's in terms of sound (which by the sounds of it both, X10i's and TripleFi 10 are better) as well as in terms on reliability.
The cheapest price for X10i i could find is $250 on Amazon which is probably a bit too much and the price for these TripleFi 10 is $150 plus whatever for a replacement cable with a remote and a mic, which is a must so it will probably come up to around $200 as well.
The S4i's are about $85 delivered from Amazon, which i think is a great price for a very good headphones and if the flimsy cord wasn't an issue, it would be a no brainer for me to be honest.
lamerthanlam on 27/03/2012 - 10:11 ¶This is worth it alone just to get the triple armatures to be added on top of your existing iems.
@stix, where did you manage to get ear impressions?

Just a local audiologist - cost $50 but you pay the money to Unique Melody and use their network of audiologists. The audiologist then handles sending the impressions and earphones to Unique Melody.
lamerthanlam on 27/03/2012 - 10:55 ¶How much did it cost for you to reshell the TF10? I'm thinking that it would cost a lot more to reshell both my IEMs(assuming that I buy the TF10)

+2 votesYeah $50 for just the impressions.
The total cost for the reshell was:
Reshell - $200
Added mid driver (not required) - $110
Cable (required) - $35
Impressions - $50Total - $395 (includes all postage) or $285 without added driver
You get a choice of colours plus you can get artwork starting at $20 or the Unique Melody logo for free. The audiologist sends the impressions and earphones to the local office of Unique Melody (in Melbourne) and they then forward it to China for the reshell. Quality is top notch.
Here's a post I made a while ago - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38946

Yes I am saying the XBA-3 is better than the XBA-4, the XBA-4 is getting heavily reduced there because no one is buying it as much as the XBA-3
Although ultimately it comes to taste, I had a try of the XBA-4 and think the bass is much too strong and is much too accurate in detail to the point that it's probably not a good everyday earphone for just music enjoyment.
I have a pair of XBA-3, best earphones for the mass market ever made, for ~$230 you are literally getting $400+ quality.

after reconsidering, a custom fit would be awesome… I just sent unique melody an email
reshelling is now 220
drivers 110
cable 45
impression 65 for non-melbourne and 45 for melbourne areasI suppose abit more than $1/day is still worth it considering I catch public transport

SuperIronChicken on 27/03/2012 - 12:10 ¶just wanted to know if logitech shop is a verified reseller of logitech products (despite their name)
I want to make sure that the warranty is legit and i wont have any problems?
SuperIronChicken on 27/03/2012 - 13:32 ¶okay thanks. just wanted to make sure that i dont get scammed out of warranty or anything else with such a large purchase.
=D
Also did anyone read that they have relatively fragile cable, that needs to be replaced here and there?
+1 voteI will say it took over a month for my headphones to be replaced with logitech shop, they're not the best on updates either (had to bug them and all I got back was 'they're being looked at' and I only received an update on the postage the day I got them back (on top of all this I paid for priority shipping).

yeah, dealt with them for warranty claims before. offered me a replacement unit, but i wasn't looking for one, was looking for a refund instead, wanted to upgrade.
despite being a tad bit slow on the whole warranty/refund process, but my problem was dealt professionally, staffs were friendly and got my money back in the end. happy with their service and been buying from them ever since!

Hmmmm I have Super.Fi 5EBs that broke around the silver cable mount block but I managed to repair them and they still work great. Not sure how much I will notice any drop in bass levels by getting the 10s. Not a bass head but I listen to a lot of rock and love the 'kick'.
+2 votescaprimulgus on 27/03/2012 - 15:13 ¶what an ingrate! i would love my partner to buy me a pair of earphones like these!
stargalaxy on 27/03/2012 - 16:03 ¶Just bought one, have been using Klipsch S4 for a while and it is time to upgrade.
+2 votesbich.light on 27/03/2012 - 16:37 ¶Now I have to ask.
I use public transport a lot like the buses and trains.
How effective are these noise cancelling capabilities?
+1 voteSuperIronChicken on 27/03/2012 - 19:24 ¶before more people get confused, these headphones do not cancel out sound, they isolate. Sound cancellation involves it having a mic and a battery that work to null the external sound.
In terms of isolation if you use a tip which forms a good seal i think you can be looking at around 25-30 db isolation(estimation), Which is more than enough to isolate low conversation especially with the music turned up. I think the best tips for these type would be the comply foam or the shure olives or something along those lines or the supplied ones. Bi flange and tri-flange are probably not suited for this, since the monitor's size is pretty big.
It will be musical nirvana to your ears =)
+1 voteIn my experience, the isolation was effective enough to listen to my songs from the iPhone while I was in a Karaoke room. But ofcourse I had to put the volume a bit louder to drown out the unisolated sounds. It was also capable of blocking the high pitched screeching noise that the trains make whilst in the tunnel. Anyhow, I would say it would be akin to having normal earplugs. I can still hear people talking in front of me, but it blocks out painful noises.
But if you want to try out sound cancellation, try the store "Audio Technica" in Sydney City Westfields. They have a sound canceling headphone on display.
-1 voteI bought these for $99 from the Amazon Black Friday sales last year. Here's what I think of them after a few months of usage:
Pros:
*Crisp high's with great definition. Mid's are slightly lacking. Bass is restrained but accurate and not in your face. Probably not the best IEM's if you like your bass doof doof-y. Using the Comply tips gives a bit more bass. Overall though, great, accurate sound quality.
*Build quality is pretty solid and has nice finish to it.
*Isolation is very good with the Comply foam tips - on a plane you can barely hear the engines.
*Nice accessories such as various adapter plugs, metal carry case.Cons:
*The IEM's are huge and stick out of your ear a fair bit. Can be cumbersome if you're moving around a lot, although the over ear memory wire helps keep it in place.
*The provided silicone eartips (5 sizes) are ridiculously big. Even with the smallest size tip, it feels like it's too big for my ears.
*Comply foam tips are fantastic but they disintegrate pretty quickly if you use them often. Clean ears and washing the Comply's will prolong their life though.
*The metal carry case is ridiculously small, and you have to bunch up the IEM + cables and squish them in for it to fit. Not much space for other tips/accesories in the case either. Conclusion
I've tried a bunch of different IEM's and headphones, and IMO for $100-$150 these are amongst the best IEM's you can get. Also, don't bother reshelling them with Unique Melody - it's not worth it as they'll sound worse than before. If you're going to go the custom IEM route, just go and buy one of the UM IEM's like the Aero series or upwards. It'll be more cost effective, sound a lot better, and you'll be getting a true custom.

don't bother reshelling them with Unique Melody - it's not worth it as they'll sound worse than before.
Sound worse? Have you had some reshelled?
The BA drivers they use in the UE universal fit earphones are THE SAME as the custom UE range. The UM BA drivers they add are made by Knowles Acoustic, who also make the BA drivers for UE and a lot of other companies. They're also experienced in driver placement and crossover installation. I don't understand your comment of a 'true custom' but check out head-fi.org to see a heap of satisfied Unique Melody customers who have had reshells done.
As for the case, it is a little small but I can fit my customs (which are bigger than the TF10), the cable and a cleaning tool. I find it better than the bigger Pelican cases you get with other customs.

Worse was probably the wrong word to use lol. I've considered the reshell before, but from what I've read on headfi it's a bit of a mixed bag - some people find the TF10 loses the sparkly high's after a reshell, other have complained about the bass being more recessed after the reshell. I guess it depends on what type of sound signature you like and whether you're getting plain reshell or adding drivers.
By true custom I meant that if you're going to be paying in the region of $500 upwards for a custom, IMO you may as well start off with a custom IEM like the UM Aero or Merlin, rather than starting off with a universal and then reshelling and adding drivers to it.
Btw, how do you find your overall sound signature after adding the mid driver in? Did you lose any of the top end?

Hmm, I can't really remember now what the TF10 universal sounded like but the reshell sounds great. It's probably not as 'fun' since the TF10 have a V-shaped sound and the added mid driver balanced it up a bit. I absolute love them though but I'm probably not as fussy as some on head-fi. Also can't remember losing any top end.
I think the difference between a reshell and a custom built from scratch would be negligible. The internals of them are basically the same.
+1 voteThey have the same drivers, but so do a bazillion earphones on the market.
They're all tuned differently, and the custom drivers are tuned specifically for being placed in a custom shell.
When you're reshelling, you run the risk of the custom maker placing the drivers irregularly which can lead to "worse" sound. Most improvements you'll be getting out of reshelling will be in comfort and isolation, while sound can improve or deprove slightly if done properly. My guess is that evol (the people's review's he's read?) probably hasn't tried them or got reshells done with bad ear impressions and has a bad seal… or maybe they just screwed up the reshell itself.

Wow! that is a lot to pay for in ear ear phones (rrp is 499$) are they really worth the extra over Logitech UE200 for 5$ each?
