The Dick Smith 7 Million Dollar Game Clearance begins April 2nd and the news has been confirmed to be online and in stores. Dick Smith are not able to advertise the sale due to consumer laws regarding high demand and limited stock.

+4 votesryantan1121 on 02/04/2012 - 11:01 ¶Yeah. Not again. I rather just let them hoarding all the stuffs. All these things make me can't sleep. =.=
One more thing, don't "+ve" until you got something.

+3 votesDeep throat at it again, their website directs you to 3 PS3 games on special that aren't a special lol. Regardless how accurate these tables are their stock probably is very limited and website crashes (COTD Style). Not to mention the out of stock alleged specials that may have never existed.
+3 votesBeing told something by the store manager doesn't exactly amount to a confirmation at all. We've been hearing various 'confirmations' such as the sale being cancelled, the sale actually beginning on the 11th, and so on. Anyway, judging by today's results, this isn't going to go down well.
+1 voteSo they will be getting more stock in for this so called new sale? Ever game thats was listed on the list was on sale at all my DSE but they just didnt have most of them. All the ones they did have were on sale tho.
So if they are not going to get new stock in for this sale then it would be a waste of time.
+1 voteThey really should change their "on-sale" strategy.. ATM, it's either not much of sale, so no one bothers or cut throat sale that only a "selected" few can get anything meaningful out of it.. As a retailer, just do what they normally do. Have something on sale and reduce the price 5-10% every 2nd day.. then everyone got a chance and people can pay what it should worth to them + No ebayer.. LOL.

+5 votesJimmyBargain on 02/04/2012 - 11:22 ¶BAIT ADVERTISING!!! they only had hanful of $5 PS3/XBOX games that were old/un-popular. GET UR ACT TOGETHER DICK!(head)
+2 votes@berger
This is a national chain - they could have bought up 20000 of the most sought items and then reduced to them a reasonable price, for example, the XBox bundle not to a $100 but maybe to $150 or $175. That way they could have kept people happy and received good reputation. But this way - now way am I going there and buy ever again. I'd rather buy my games in the UK from now on. They are cheaper there anyway.
+3 votesleonheart1 on 02/04/2012 - 11:41 ¶The thing is, I thought that the stock levels weren't true indicators in the first part of the sale.
I mean how the hell could they sell out before it even gets discounted?
But now I know that the stock levels are right and it's because staff & friends takes all of it before it's even on sale.
Really not worth the time IMO.
+3 votesWaste of time.
I was at Marion, SA (which is one of their larger stores) along with 50+ others when doors opened at 9am.
I looked earlier on the website - they were the only store that had an XBOX 4Gb Console in the state (there was only ONE). Not a single 250Gb one in the whole of SA!
Games - well, you had to dive on in and grab what you could, as there was a box/bin for each console. There was probably only one copy of each of the bigger games like LA Noire there. All that was there were old games that no one really wanted (and I was one of the first there so I saw what others were grabbing).
The entire sale is a joke. Whether the lists were leaked or not, there was never any or enough stock to go around to call it a sale. A REAL sale is where you have discounted items and at least 5-10 of them per store. Not this, where there was practically nothing available. No doubt staff had first dibs on the good stuff.

+2 votesAbbiesaurus on 02/04/2012 - 12:44 ¶Waste of time. I went to 3 stores in my area today and there were hardly any games left from the list. It will be even worse than today's sale.
+1 voteAbbiesaurus on 02/04/2012 - 12:48 ¶Also the staff at my local store said the next sale was on the 11th. Different staff members are giving different dates, so who knows when the next sale will be.
+1 voteGigglingpuff on 02/04/2012 - 13:12 ¶Round 2? Seriously??
I'd be a fool to fall for that again!
+1 votediamondtouch1 on 02/04/2012 - 13:59 ¶because of the promise of 'bargains', the same as round 1?

+3 votesPuff Braddy on 02/04/2012 - 17:58 ¶OzPete - if you're going to threaten me with an insta ban then maybe you should start doing this in just about every COTD bargain that is put up then where people do it regularly hey. A bit of consistency on your behalf wouldn't hurt at all. We'll wait and see if you do this in the next COTD bargain posted that gets swamped with negs ;)

If I get a report that someone has/is doing this, with any company, then they will be required to declare that they are not doing this or get a ban. In your case it reads to me, that you just declared you will be doing it, so I know.
Unless of course I have misunderstood what you are saying. Please let me know if I have done that.
Vendetta's against a company by anyone isnt within our guidelines.
+1 votePuff Braddy on 02/04/2012 - 18:07 ¶You misunderstood what I said. I said there are plenty of people who neg COTD deals simply because they are COTD deals, a lot of them saying 'lol COTD' and casting a neg vote. I am not one of those people. What I said was that you need to start saying the same thing to these people - who have negged COTD bargains for a long time, ever since I've become a user on this site, and gotten away with it too - and not just pull me up on it on the first time I've actually done it (voted a neg because I'm a little jaded towards the company). Hence why I said hopefully you doing this will be more consistent across the board.
I'll make sure to report these votes from now on, and will hope to see something done about them.
bargainfrog on 02/04/2012 - 17:35 ¶Yawn, what ever I'm never going back to dicksmith again. Wish I could neg this post, but under 30 days :(

Dealing with limited stock and tiny sales windows is bread and butter for OzBargainers and happens practically on a daily basis but yet you don't see this type of negative reaction to every deal posted on OzBargain. The difference is that DSE clearly failed in the handling of this.
- Confirming this 'non-public' sale on the worst place to keep things a secret: Facebook
- Enticing the minority in the bargain hunting community (scalpers) with ridiculously low prices and no purchasing limits (e.g. one item type per customer)
- Encouraging scalping and sales misconduct amongst staff with (again) obscenely low prices and no purchasing limits
- Activating the sale online before the time it was meant to be released
- Providing barebones/misleading detail on the sales items (e.g. XBOX points and subs were the old SKU only). You could argue this is internal communications but if you announce something to the public you have to be mindful of these things
- Underestimating the power of the Internet. Having this info leaked and then confirming it is as good as advertising it. Confirming it was the wrong move.

Went the next day, gone. Asked the manager, he said they were being "kept out the back for the sale on monday". Come Monday, I line up for nearly two hours only to find out they sold them to a staff member. On another note, if anyone managed to price match any stuff with other stores, could they kindly post the receipts they used from Dick Smith and also the receipts they got from the store? i.e. Officeworks are probably much more likely to match themselves than DSE.

I changed my mind. I didn't think it would be like THAT… Yeeesh.

from news.com.au 3/04/2012DICK Smith's $7 million games sale has been labelled a PR disaster after shoppers left confused and empty handed. Dick Smith acting general manager David White issued the apology this afternoon to disappointed gaming sale customers.
"Due to the unforseen popularity of today's Dick Smith gaming sale some customers did not get the products they wanted," he said.
A number of stores sold out of some products and the Dick Smith website received an unprecedented volume in traffic."
"We understand a certain amount of misinformation was published online last week that led some customers to believe certain products were on sale when they were not or they were a different discount."
