okay so will the DSE staff be hoarding all of this stock as well?

      • Which store?

      • which store?

      • how much were those consoles mate?

      • +6

that's bullshit. I called Druitt at 8.45am and i was told no consoles in stock. Either you are a staff or just bluffing.

        • -3

LOL. Why the hell would I bluff about an item I did or Did not get?

        • +4

Probably yet another staff. You could try posting your receipt. I'm pretty sure staff will slap the extra 5% to get the Xbox console at $95 bucks after the reservation shenanigans.

      • Hey Moots. Which store do you work at(DSE). That's how you got all the good stuff:)

    • Exactly what the Ashfield staff were so happy about when I was paying for 3x$5 PS3 games!

    • +1

Will you be providing proof of this? Or just alleging it?

  • +8

Who wants to go through all this again?

    • +4

Yeah. Not again. I rather just let them hoarding all the stuffs. All these things make me can't sleep. =.=

One more thing, don't "+ve" until you got something.

  • +4

DSE Altona had almost nothing, plenty of stock of items that were clearly on the discount list at full price. As far as I am concerned, this is absolutely bait advertising.

  • i thought most of the stuff would be gone today?

  • +3

How can there be consoles when there's none today.

  • Will the "Round 2" just be online or in store too?

    • +1

I assume both, but more of what we got today. :/

    • +8

Will the dse website be able to handle more than 5 customers at once?

      • To be fair, the website was probably hammered pretty hard. Not that there was anything good available online

  • I hope Driver Xbox CE is part of this one. It was pretty stupid to have just the PS3 version on special.

  • +3

Deep throat at it again, their website directs you to 3 PS3 games on special that aren't a special lol. Regardless how accurate these tables are their stock probably is very limited and website crashes (COTD Style). Not to mention the out of stock alleged specials that may have never existed.

  • +3

Being told something by the store manager doesn't exactly amount to a confirmation at all. We've been hearing various 'confirmations' such as the sale being cancelled, the sale actually beginning on the 11th, and so on. Anyway, judging by today's results, this isn't going to go down well.

  • +15

    The Dick Who Cried Wolf!!!

  • All craps are out of stock. How can DS get them in stock in 2-3 days?

  • +6

it's a bit dodgey to host a sale that has hardly any stock and then bring out the rest a few days later…

  • +2

It felt like those cotd special deal when they are out of stock within 1 minute.

  • +1

So they will be getting more stock in for this so called new sale? Ever game thats was listed on the list was on sale at all my DSE but they just didnt have most of them. All the ones they did have were on sale tho.

So if they are not going to get new stock in for this sale then it would be a waste of time.

  • +1

This sale is lame as eff

  • Staff have given numerous dates and misleading guidance (even for today's sale). They can't all be right.

  • +5

sweet, more stuff for the staff to buy. quite happy for them tbh, half of them will be out of a job and need something to do

  • +1

They really should change their "on-sale" strategy.. ATM, it's either not much of sale, so no one bothers or cut throat sale that only a "selected" few can get anything meaningful out of it.. As a retailer, just do what they normally do. Have something on sale and reduce the price 5-10% every 2nd day.. then everyone got a chance and people can pay what it should worth to them + No ebayer.. LOL.

  • +7

The whole clearance has been so poorly done I can't help but neg.

  • +1

the stock level in each store is so low, it's just waste of time.

  • +5

BAIT ADVERTISING!!! they only had hanful of $5 PS3/XBOX games that were old/un-popular. GET UR ACT TOGETHER DICK!(head)

  • Awesome, but you know.. Should I even bother with the second round?

  • +3

So most of the stuff is gone today and they have the hide to call for round 2? Srs brah?

  • +7

Had to neg this to make me feel good for wasting time this morning.

  • +2

in fairness, were Dick Smith expecting an extra 5000+ people from Ozbargain to go to the stores for the sale?

    • +3

To not be bait advertising they have to have a reasonable expectation of enough stock to cater for demand, clearly they did not.

      • +3

Mind you this is allegedly a 7 million dollar sale lol. Question is of what RRP multiplied by a million?

  • +1

    More of the same bull****

  • +2

    @berger

This is a national chain - they could have bought up 20000 of the most sought items and then reduced to them a reasonable price, for example, the XBox bundle not to a $100 but maybe to $150 or $175. That way they could have kept people happy and received good reputation. But this way - now way am I going there and buy ever again. I'd rather buy my games in the UK from now on. They are cheaper there anyway.

  • +3

The thing is, I thought that the stock levels weren't true indicators in the first part of the sale.

I mean how the hell could they sell out before it even gets discounted?

But now I know that the stock levels are right and it's because staff & friends takes all of it before it's even on sale.
Really not worth the time IMO.

  • +1

I'll believe it when I see it, I was told the 12th.

  • +1

DSE can't just abuse social networks by leaking greatly exaggerated sales.

Do they seriously want a repeat of today? :\

  • -1

Thanks. Just got 2x 3DS games for $10 ea, bargain.

  • +2

Not keen for this sale again.

  • +3

    Waste of time.

I was at Marion, SA (which is one of their larger stores) along with 50+ others when doors opened at 9am.

I looked earlier on the website - they were the only store that had an XBOX 4Gb Console in the state (there was only ONE). Not a single 250Gb one in the whole of SA!

Games - well, you had to dive on in and grab what you could, as there was a box/bin for each console. There was probably only one copy of each of the bigger games like LA Noire there. All that was there were old games that no one really wanted (and I was one of the first there so I saw what others were grabbing).

The entire sale is a joke. Whether the lists were leaked or not, there was never any or enough stock to go around to call it a sale. A REAL sale is where you have discounted items and at least 5-10 of them per store. Not this, where there was practically nothing available. No doubt staff had first dibs on the good stuff.

  • +1

yes kiss my a$$ DSE….everyone hates DSE now…stupid stunt you trying to pull using net….not going to work again…

  • waste of time

  • +1

Full credits should go to Ecogamer - they had all the details first.
    I was only the messenger

  • +2

Waste of time. I went to 3 stores in my area today and there were hardly any games left from the list. It will be even worse than today's sale.

    • +1

Also the staff at my local store said the next sale was on the 11th. Different staff members are giving different dates, so who knows when the next sale will be.

  • +9

Wonder if I can get a job at Dick Smith before this supposed "round 2 sale" rofl!

  • +1

    Round 2? Seriously??
I'd be a fool to fall for that again!

  • +14

Thought part 2 was tonight on ebay

  • +1

    Its dick smith

  • +1

After the disaster that was the first sale, why would anyone be interested in a round 2?

    • +1

because of the promise of 'bargains', the same as round 1?

  • +1

'….I was told by the store manager this Thursday is the 2nd round' . You really believe what they say?

  • +1

its a bit late for april fools

  • +5

DSE = new insta COTD neg.

    • -1

Puff Braddy - if you do this then you are not playing by our guidelines. Very tempted to tell you, play this game and = insta ban, but we'll wait to see if you start on this game ;)

      • +3

OzPete - if you're going to threaten me with an insta ban then maybe you should start doing this in just about every COTD bargain that is put up then where people do it regularly hey. A bit of consistency on your behalf wouldn't hurt at all. We'll wait and see if you do this in the next COTD bargain posted that gets swamped with negs ;)

        • If I get a report that someone has/is doing this, with any company, then they will be required to declare that they are not doing this or get a ban. In your case it reads to me, that you just declared you will be doing it, so I know.

Unless of course I have misunderstood what you are saying. Please let me know if I have done that.

Vendetta's against a company by anyone isnt within our guidelines.

        • +1

You misunderstood what I said. I said there are plenty of people who neg COTD deals simply because they are COTD deals, a lot of them saying 'lol COTD' and casting a neg vote. I am not one of those people. What I said was that you need to start saying the same thing to these people - who have negged COTD bargains for a long time, ever since I've become a user on this site, and gotten away with it too - and not just pull me up on it on the first time I've actually done it (voted a neg because I'm a little jaded towards the company). Hence why I said hopefully you doing this will be more consistent across the board.

I'll make sure to report these votes from now on, and will hope to see something done about them.

        • Cool - sorry about the misunderstanding

And yes reports help. When we do determine a vendetta we then remove votes. If they persist then we stop their ability to vote. ie ban

  • cant wait!

  • not gonna fall for this again.!

  • +4

Negging because I couldn't neg the the last sale.

  • +8

This is a very good news….if you work for Dick Smith

  • +2

what's the saying fool me once shame on.. well the point is we won't be fooled again

  • Yawn, what ever I'm never going back to dicksmith again. Wish I could neg this post, but under 30 days :(

  • Moved to forums as we cant confirm this deal.

  • +5

Sorry, no. Not after Episode I: The Phantom Bargain.

  • is this for real?

  • If it is anything like today's deal, it will be so bad.

  • This got to be the best news for Dick Smith staff, or until you are retrenched because people start boycotting Dick Smith.

  • -5

Some of these comments are just crazy. Only people who lined up for ages to be one of the very first entering the store in hopes of getting a console or similar should neg, IMO. It seems most people joined the line - some lines had 100 people in it. Did you really expect to get anything with so many people and you being at the back of the line?

Quick BLAST TO THE PAST, people. HD-DVD dead, everything is on clearance at JB Hifi. People (including me) lined up for ages in hopes of buying tones of Clearance HD-DVD stock. For me it was the greatest sale EVER - I got hundreds of dollars worth of stuff - the cost prior to sale would of been in the thousands - and I was crazy happy. Other people just waltzed in grabbing one or two items. There was practically nothing 15 minutes after opening. Do the people that missed out have the right to negative? NO!

It's the same here. If you were not one of the very first in line you should revoke your negative. Also, consider this:

    • The sale was never supposed to be leaked to the public.
    • It's a clearance sale of mostly quite old stock
    • It wasn't advertised
    • It has been known and said that there is more stock coming in and more reductions coming, it wasn't all done on the 2nd of April
    • The gaming selection is tiny at my local Dick Smith. 10 people could easily clear it all out if it was on clearance. 30 people lining up? That's just being stupid.

EDIT: I wrote this and then the comments on the official deal got closed…

    • +6

your post is not relevant because staff took all the good stuff.

      • I suppose that is true.

    • Sounds like you now have a ripper collection of coasters.

Sorry, couldn't resist. HD-DVD's are like $1 at the local secondhand shop. They can't give them away.

      • It was so long ago. It took a long time but there is only 20 or so left that haven't been replaced with a Bluray yet.

They served me well for quite a while :)

    • +3

People have the right to neg because they didn't get a fair chance. Dealing with limited stock and tiny sales windows is bread and butter for OzBargainers and happens practically on a daily basis but yet you don't see this type of negative reaction to every deal posted on OzBargain. The difference is that DSE clearly failed in the handling of this.

      • Confirming this 'non-public' sale on the worst place to keep things a secret: Facebook
      • Enticing the minority in the bargain hunting community (scalpers) with ridiculously low prices and no purchasing limits (e.g. one item type per customer)
      • Encouraging scalping and sales misconduct amongst staff with (again) obscenely low prices and no purchasing limits
      • Activating the sale online before the time it was meant to be released
      • Providing barebones/misleading detail on the sales items (e.g. XBOX points and subs were the old SKU only). You could argue this is internal communications but if you announce something to the public you have to be mindful of these things
      • Underestimating the power of the Internet. Having this info leaked and then confirming it is as good as advertising it. Confirming it was the wrong move.
  • +1

Went Saturday to my local DSE - 2 DSis
Went the next day, gone. Asked the manager, he said they were being "kept out the back for the sale on monday". Come Monday, I line up for nearly two hours only to find out they sold them to a staff member.

On another note, if anyone managed to price match any stuff with other stores, could they kindly post the receipts they used from Dick Smith and also the receipts they got from the store? i.e. Officeworks are probably much more likely to match themselves than DSE.

    • Was that Capalaba?

I changed my mind. I didn't think it would be like THAT… Yeeesh.

  • I was in the Greensborough Store yesterday and the manager was talking to someone, saying that that there will be a massive sale on the 11th or 12th(forgot :S)

I am not falling for their crap again.

  • Dicked off: Customer fury at Dick Smith's $7m sale 'scam'
    from news.com.au 3/04/2012

DICK Smith's $7 million games sale has been labelled a PR disaster after shoppers left confused and empty handed. Dick Smith acting general manager David White issued the apology this afternoon to disappointed gaming sale customers.

"Due to the unforseen popularity of today's Dick Smith gaming sale some customers did not get the products they wanted," he said.

A number of stores sold out of some products and the Dick Smith website received an unprecedented volume in traffic."

"We understand a certain amount of misinformation was published online last week that led some customers to believe certain products were on sale when they were not or they were a different discount."

What a total load of utter shit. Seriously I didn't buy anything at DSE before because of the dickhead junior staff but this is the last straw. DSE - you can die in a fire after this total social media fail.

      • +2

I wish big companies would stop with the mentality that they gotta be on facebook and advertise everything on there. they should be using their website and catalogs.

  • +5

Dick Smith I'm looking for a job!! I can start this THURSDAY!

  • I'm not believing this.
Especially from someone who claims to have picked up 30 MW3 360s from the sale.
Edit: Wait, maybe he was just saying there were 30 up for grabs throughout the country. Can't tell.

  • Yeh, $9000 worth of MW3 360s @ $299each. Yeh right…
