Customer Notice
Due to the unauthorised leaking of an internal price list last week, our Game On Sale has exceeded expectations. As our Game On Sale continues this week, we would like to inform our customers that stock is selling faster than expected. We thank you for your patience and continued support and apologise for any inconvenience caused. As a gesture of goodwill in addition to the Game on Sale event we will now be offering extend the offer to include 30% off gaming software and accessories until Sunday 15 April. Please note that this excludes all gaming consoles, digital cards & already advertised catalogue lines in our Game On brochure (11/4 – 23/4/12).

Interesting. Just went to my local store. Nothing marked up as discounted, though there were a bunch of more organised bargain hunters with lists of what prices should be.
How not to execute a sale: change prices on line the day before and then not mark anything up in store.
I don't know how a leaked list could be to blame for either of those things. It sounds to me like Dick Smith is an organisation lacking severely in organisation, probably why I never shopped there in the first place.
spawnpoint on 12/04/2012 - 12:07 ¶probably why I never shopped there in the first place.
SO you realised that DSE lacks in organsation now but you never shopped there before yesterday because you somehow knew about their organisation lacking abilities from beforehand? Dafuq
+4 votesShe did, but the staff didn't do anything. She was the only one waiting until about 8:45. The staff had looked out at her numerous times before they opened, so they knew she was there first. Guess common decency gets thrown out the window in the name of a bargain!

I was at DSE North Sydney at 8:45 thinking that the sale started at 9:00. Looks like it started at 8:30. By 8:45 there was not a single item on sale. Not even one junky old game. The cheapest game they had for XBox 360 was $39.95 and that was the regular price.
Looks like either Dick Smith is doing bait and switch, ebay scalpers had cleaned them out or their staff took everything for themselves.
Dick Smith should do themselves a favor and stop having sales, it is causing them too much bad publicity.
tetrahedron on 11/04/2012 - 09:35 ¶I can confirmed that North Sydney does have stocks (I got a DSiXL), you just need to line up early for it (ie. 7:30am). When I left the store, they still have plenty of sales item. (Including the TDK headset, thanks to the lady in front of me in the queue informing me that).
It was good customer services at North Sydney DSE, both today, and the sales last Monday.
tetrahedron on 13/04/2012 - 00:23 ¶Correct, I joined just to participate in this discussion, and no, it wasn't a lie, more like the person who claimed to arrive before 8:30am didn't realise that the staff already allocated the first three person in the queue (who was here since 7:50am) the available DSI XL stocks.
tetrahedron on 13/04/2012 - 06:33 ¶In order to reduce confusion, the staff let us complete the DSI XL transaction prior to the store opens, at that time, only the forth person in the queue saw it. We then had to continue line up for the rest of the games/accessories.

I went to the North Sydney store at 10am today. They were still putting out stock and none of it was priced yet. I took things to the register and was told pricing of items.
I bought Toy Story 3 for Wii $7, Toy Story Mania for Wii $3.50, two Eureka Multimedia titles for PC for $3.50 each (originally marked at $20/$29)

+2 votesbigosmallo on 11/04/2012 - 09:38 ¶Rocked up at 8:58 to my local store, saw the line of 50+ people stretched around the corner.
Turned around, walked back to my car, hopped in and left.

Rang my local store yesterday and was told they had 3 DSi XL's left in-stock. Went there today, first to be served and only 2 DSi's left. One was not listed on the website as in-stock. The one we got was opened and had finger prints all over it. Obviously display stock sold as new.
Shady buggers.
+1 voteQue at Sydney CBD wasn't that bad…probably 1/3 of the people there on the first day. Bunch of people got the DSI XL as well as the TDK headset. They have limited the XL to one each. There was some shouting, but in the end some people got it.
Got a few games myself, Sonic generations was further reduced to $14. Good stuff.
+2 votesMy experience this morning has been pleasant.
6:30am – Checked the DSE website out of curiosity. Noticed the local DSE to my work had “low stock” of the dsi’s (made a mental note but had no expectations at this stage after last week’s debacle)
8:00am - Got to the city early this morning. Bought my morning coffee and thought to myself “I’ll just check the DSE near my work – why not…you know you want to…” (The Strand VIC)
8:07am – Got to the store, no-one there (feeling a bit foolish at this stage…maybe there’s no sale on??)
8:15am – 2 other people line up behind me, staff approaches us to ask what we’re waiting for (all dsi’s surprise surprise). Took our names and said there’s 3 in store and he’ll put them away for all of us (feeling happy but wary as anything can still happen)
8:30am – Browsing the DSE website. Games seem to have reduced in price whilst waiting in the queue
8:40am – About 20 people in queue (lots of young ‘I’m on break from uni’ looking guys)
8:57am – Asked the staff waiting to open the door if I could browse before purchasing the dsi, he apologised and said “its best to go to the counter to buy it first”
9:00am – Walked to counter, purchased dsi along with the 2 guys behind me this morning. 3 colours available, yellow, blue and burgundy which was indeterminately distributed to each of us.
9:03am – Headed to the bargain bins with the games on sale but it was looking pretty dismal by this time (a guy was holding 2 x TDK headphones @ $5 and red faction ps3’s etc)
9:05am – Headed off to work with my purchaseAll in all – expecatations were low but came out of it with a dsi without having to wait hours and hours - good stuff.
johnno1987 on 11/04/2012 - 09:52 ¶I went to Bendigo at 8.55am, about 15-20 people on line. This sale seems to have been handled a lot better in terms of in-store(not so much the release of online prices a day early). When I walked in, there was a noticeable clearance table with quite a few items on it. My local dick smith also had 30% off all games. I managed to get UFC Trainer for $7, Sonic Generations Limited Edition for $14, Once upon a monster for $5, 2 of the TDK Headsets for $5 and a logitech wireless steering wheel for $10. My cousin managed to get a DSi XL in yellow. The store had these behind the counter, and were one per customer. All in all, a much better handled sale with actual stock. They have renewed my faith in Dick
lonewolf_860 on 11/04/2012 - 09:56 ¶When did ozbargain turn into the new whirlpool?…all I ever hear is complaining and people moaning about how they missed out.

I called DickSmith Elizabeth ST Melbourne at 4:45 last night, 15 minutes before they close and they said they had 3 dsXL left. I was at the door at 8:40 this morning and the guy told me the sold the 3 they had left yesterday at 40 dollars despite the fact the website states the sale starts today.
I am making a complaint to the ACCC about this.
+5 votesIs this the DSE The Strand on elizabeth st?
If so, if you arrived at 8:40am then there would have been others in front of you (refer to my earlier post) - and the 3 dsi's you were advised of yesterday were purchased by the first 3 people in the line this morning.
Sore loser much?

No DS in Wollongong area left even though Wollongong store says Low stock, I rang and she said none left. Warrawong showed In stock yesterday but all out of stock this morning, so they must update web site.
Unlike North Sydney, which still shows In Stock but previous posts tell us its all gone. You'd think being a technology sales company, they could link to their website live from the cash desk. Well, assuming staff hasn't tucked some away.
+2 votesI was at the George St Sydney Store this morning and i have to give an honorable mention to the staff who despite the chaos had enforced the 1 special item per person. I saw greedy donkeys trying to grab more than one DSis. One donkey was greedy enough to ask for 4 DSis. Because of that, I managed to get a couple of bargain of my own. Props to the staff.
+1 voteTimmyShooterB on 11/04/2012 - 10:15 ¶I went to the George Street store and was maybe the 10th person in when they opened doors. They promised 12 DSi XLs in stock, only 3 were sold before the staff announced they were sold out. To the people who were trying to buy more than one, shame on you. Share the love.
Couldn't find any of the games I wanted (that were displayed as 'in stock' at the George Street store.
Left empty handed only to be mobbed by One Direction fans. What a great start to the day.
xfiledavid on 11/04/2012 - 10:17 ¶Springvale - cue of about 30 or so, seaguls at front. mostly the same hoarders from the previous sale, maybe they need more than 6 copies of the one game this time.. yup… they did. pity no good games available today..
The scarrabs lining up first again as last sale, grabbing what they can get there hands on… even saw a lady run in with 2 bags, loaded them up with everything, then went to a quite spot to go through the stuff she hoarded to see what was useful..
mad rush to counter at 9:00:01 all Dsi's sold out in 30secs. about 6 or so i think, hard to see when everyone is pushing up at the counter..
except the one that must of been reserved for that guy that casually waltzed in afterwards, he seemed to get all the stuff he wanted.but stuff all games worth while, 2 headsets, few wii gadgets.. thats about it.. more people walking out with nothing more so than the last sale.
I feel for the people rocking up shortly after 9am there was nothing left bar some crappy games.
polkadots610 on 11/04/2012 - 10:21 ¶Wow, thank goodness I missed my bus to Springvale and had to go to Brandon Park instead! Managed to get a burgundy DSi. All stores should have imposed the "1 per customer" rule.
+1 voteGood selection of half decent stuff this morning. Looks like the "rumours" were true and the "real" sale did start today. This really is a a case of The Dick Who Cried Wolf :P
PS: there was this guy who was there at 9am went to the counter but not for a DSi XL he asked if they had any CB Radio antennas <- swarmed by a sea of gaming nerds lol.
ibbargainer on 11/04/2012 - 10:25 ¶Any ill-feeling I may have harboured for DSE before has been forgiven! Went to the Carlingford store, the staff were very helpful and everything was orderly. You had to go the counter for a DSi, and they enforced the 1 per person rule. I had checked the stock the day before, and it did not seem like the staff had bought stock. They also had a few TDK headphones available as well. Most of the games were marked down, however, some of the games weren't, so you had to know what you were looking for. All in all, I am very happy with the experience.
j1mmyj1mmy on 11/04/2012 - 10:36 ¶The staff are probably still holding up some stock. Yesterday, browsed through the DSE site, found a game in low stock, unaware of the sale, I went to my local store with intentions to buy a $5 game, and they said they had stock but couldn't sell it until today. Come today, the employee acts all dumb and says they don't know where they put the game, and then say someone must have bought it earlier.

Wish all DSE's had instilled the one per customer policy… I was 4th in line at Campbelltown Mall DSE (NSW), had the 1st woman buy 2 DSi XL's then somehow this guy behind me gets served by another staff member before I do, buys 3, & he freaking works for EB Games across the way & says he's gonna claim them back on tax! I managed to get the absolute last one, which is a returned "change of mind"
Not happy Dicky!
I was there, the 3 he bought were ex-display. The line wasn't very orderly I was around 12th in line but managed to get served before some of the people in front of me and I didn't even have to do any pushing, shoving or sneaking past people. Just lucky I guess.
Managed to get 2 logitech wheels (1 change of mind) and one TDK headphone.
I was there too! I was the one that had a go at the houseos that quite obviously jumped the line and were to be sold THE LAST DSiXL!!! There were maybe 2 or 3 people ahead of me so I obviously wasn't going to get one but the kid in front of me missed out too.
Macarthur Square had heaps of the steering wheels and I got two for my husband and little boy to race each other. I also got some controllers and a few games.
peterlong1952 on 11/04/2012 - 10:49 ¶Looked on DSE website at 9.30am and was surprised that my local Dick Smith store had low stock of DSi XL. Phoned and they had 2 demo models left. Went down, purchased the Bronze one and used my Woolworths staff card. Happy camper here as I only paid $38 for it.

Tuggerah DSE had 3 DSi's, i managed to grab one.
I also got a few $1 PC games, WII controllers for $2 each and a TDK headset for $5
The staff came out and said there was a limit of one per customer and when i went to pay, the girl behind the counter joked that she wouldnt sell it to me because she wanted one.
+1 voteI picked up a few good deals at Nunawading, the ticket prices were the same as the web. There was a guy from JB buying all the cheap games. I asked him if they were for trading, he said the manager sent him to buy them to stop the trading…..weird.
PS3 controllers for $63 is pretty good pickup bricks and mortar blah blah.

I did a drive by at Prahran DSE at 7:25am, noone outside. Parked and waited for the place to open up. At 8:45, three people turned up. One last guy turned up at 8:55am. All 3 of the people who wanted a DSi got it. It looks like the other two guys had actually reserved them somehow. Shrugs I didn't even want the DSi, just got it for a friend who did have the time to queue up. Also picked up Mario Party 8 for Wii for $10.50, but unfortunately their other games were pretty dismal.
+4 voteslord henry on 11/04/2012 - 11:18 ¶Only wanted one game (Fallout 3 GOTY) so phoned North Sydney yesterday who put one on hold for me.
Cycled there this morning for just that (from Surry Hills) only to be told they only had one hold, and that was for someone else.Absolutely abysmal effort by DSE.
This is what happens when you just hire total morons.
+1 voteI went yesterday just before they closed got told that my local DSE had 4 DSi XL's left.
I went down today made sure I was early enough to be first in line (7:45am got there) went straight to the counter got and got told they had 3 Dsi XL's left (apparently one must have been sold between closing time yesterday and before the store opened today - very suspect). Was told 1 per customer (which is fine) and I walked away with a DSi XL in Bronze. Quite happy with that.
Apparently all the old stock at my local store is on Sale for $2 each. Walked away with about 18 games and a $5 headset :)
Highlights include (all for $2)
Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock (xbox360)
Guitar Hero Aerosmith (xbox360)
Band Hero (xbox 360)
Left for Dead 2 (PC)
about 6 DS games (Professor's Layton's Curious Village, MySim Agents, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Mini Ninja's, etc)
about 7 PSP games (honestly can't recall any names atm)Was a good sale for me. Still putting out more stock when I was there.
+11 votesI got there at about 8:30. There were 2 other groups of people in front of me. They were waiting to get cheap 360 games. Then about 15 minutes before it opened another few people rocked up. One woman was there to buy a DSi for her husband. She spent 10 minutes in the queue talking about how her husband has everything, even a 3DS blah blah blah - I figure she'll only grab one. Another guy arrived and said he wanted one for his kid. Fair enough. Staff said there were 4 in stock.
Door opens, I go to counter to ask about the DS, not seeing them on the shelf. The staff point me in the direction and I peer over to see that woman taking all 4 of them for herself. I asked if she really needed all 4 of them and she said "you snooze you lose".
What a pig. The staff didn't care that she had all of them either. I just.. ugh.
+9 votesIt was like she was trying to do the opposite of that. Talking about how much stuff they already have and how her husband has a huge game collection and has the new iPad and the iPad 2 and like, pretty much everything. I already wanted to see her drown in a vat of baboon piss before the doors opened.
Captain Obvious on 11/04/2012 - 11:36 ¶Just picked up Batman Arkham City (PC) and Wii Sports Resort (with the Wii-motion Plus) for $10.50 each. Woohoo!!!
Abbiesaurus on 11/04/2012 - 11:40 ¶This sale turned out better than their last, but still there were a lot of problems that could have easily been avoided.
There should have been a limit of 1 per customer for each sale item, so more people could get something that they wanted.
Also I was first in line, yet people had already came in early at 7:30 and reserved the dsi xl's and then left…I was unaware that you were able to reserve items, I thought that was not allowed for this sale? But on the plus side at least those dsi xl's went to general members of the public and not just staff hoarding them all for themselves like last time.
+2 votesSo frustrated… get to DSE in Perth, about 9th in line (and I know they had 10 in stock as I was there yesterday) and knew they were doing one console per person.
Get to the counter to be greeted by a teenage girl, I ask for her a DSi and she tells the horde that they are over with the consoles… I ask a second time and she ensures us they are over there (without even looking). Everybody rushes over only to see another guy come serve and getting DSi's from behind the counter. Even after rushing back I missed out by 1.
Just wanted to say a big thanks to Dick Smith and your awesome staff!

went to DSE Brighton
got the following and happy:
red dsi XL $40
pilot wings $30
star fox $30although sonic gens. ps3 was $40 so I said no thanks, i thought it was $14 or $20 but came up as $40 :(
otherwise very good, plus I got there at 8.55am with 6 others
great staff and great store!
I got to Camberwell Store there at 7:30…no one was there I was first. Until 8:45, the 2nd person came, there was a about 5 ppl only at 9 when store opens.
- I was told there are no limits per customer and also told me it's on Thursday by phone call yesterday. (Misleading)
I expected to get 3xDSi for my bros and myself and they limit one each when i got there today. They should tell me earlier so I'll ask someone to go with me
Finally… I got
Dsi Blue $40 x 1
TDK Headset $5 X 3
Logitech Wireless Racing Wheel $10 x 1DIRT 2(PS3 Game) $2 x 1
Horse Racing Manager 2(PC Game) $1 x 1
Trainz Sim 2010(PC Game) $1 x 1
Rabbids Go Home(DS Game) $2 x 1
+3 votesGot to my store just after 8 with two guys waiting, was advised after 20 mins that only 2 DSs were available, staff said figure it out between yourselves, I figured that as they were first it was fair for them to get the kit, as I was most after the games;
Walked away with a few things for $10 brink, ass creed 2 and medal of Honour for $3.50. Later saw the two guys who got the DSs grabbing ARMLOADS of wii controllers (like 10 each) and there was much shoving from parents with little kids, staff there were very helpful, finding a game or two out the back that had not been stickered yet.
They couldn't seem to find any red dead redemptions ($3.50) ao I tried to pricematch at EB; a guy from dick smith even walked into EB to advise they had stock but the manager wouldn't do the price match.
I didn't go to the first round of the sale, but this time I found the staff really helpful (to the point where a guy went to EB for me!) and I got a few decent games from the sale + to the poster!
+1 voteCaptain Obvious on 11/04/2012 - 12:45 ¶Well at my local, the manager came out before 0900 and asked who was first in line. He let in the first two groups, then the next two etc until 0900. That way the people who had been waiting longest received first pick, even though the people who went in first came out empty-handed…
Captain Obvious on 11/04/2012 - 12:48 ¶lol, bargain!!!
http://dicksmith.com.au/product/YG8906/pcdvd-command-amp-con...
I'm happy with the sale as I managed to get a few things. That said the first one was put away for me because the store couldn't sell it to me yesterday and the other one I rang and asked if they had stock and they had to check out the back (shouldn't stoke for sale be in the shop floor?)
