  It depends on the hair of the person using it. I have very fine hair, and it's naturally relatively straight, so cheap ones like these Remingtons work really well for me. Probably wouldn't be ideal for thick/curly hair, you'd want a GHD or Cloud Nine for that, as mentioned by oz-dxer and dogboy. But for $10, it's worth a go.
  
  Oh, and I've had my Remington straightener for around 5 years, and it's still going strong :)

I hear that the Cloud 9 ones are better than GHD now. They are supposed to be cheaper than GHD but as they are relatively new I still haven't been able to find any good deals on them. Anyone?
