Canon EOS 5D Mark III Australian Stock $3,599 at Leederville Cameras / Pricematched at JB

410

Picked up a Canon 5dmkIII yesterday at JBHIFI in Perth city for $3,599 down from their marked price of $4,199.

Cheapest Aus stock price I could get.

Hope this helps some people.

Good luck!!

NOTE: As stated this is an Australian Stock item, you can get it slightly cheaper via import but you will not have the support of Canon Australia should something go wrong with the item during it's 12 month warranty period.

  • receipt?

    is leederville au stock?

  • -2

price match isn't a deal, you should have kept this in the forums…now likely that JB Hifi won't honor the deal since Leederville doesn't have stock

    • Or the OP can just not mention it…

      • +7

thats ok with me, at least I know the price won't get pulled because it had been ozbargained. Good job on the price match anyway OP.

Technically we should be sending customers to leederville cameras, reward those that do the best for their customers.

        • This is just a receipt of a price not a pricematch. If you said check out this deal, Officeworks just pricematched my JB deal then that would be a pricematch.

          Referenced here, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

        • Ah OP changed the description. OP you should put the link to the original store selling the camera.

"Technically we should be sending customers to leederville cameras, reward those that do the best for their customers."

          I agree with that totally.

        • great service too.

  • Leederville is AU stock

And I've seen price matches on here before but if thats the case someone can delete if they want and I might put it in the forums.

  • Thanks, sharing is caring.

  • Anyhow, this is still a pretty impressive price for this body. Wel done Canon and Leederville. B&H price fro this camera is US$3499. Good local buy! I only wish that NIKON Australia would stop over-charging locally.

    • +1

I believe Nikon AU started this matching grey price trend, couple months ago JB took down all Nikon grey import listing and I've heard a few sucess body matching stories, nothing on lenses yet.

  • I guess price match means they're not losing $ at that price
which means they're making $600 at least?

    • I dont know, they were not happy about it and very surprised that others were selling it at that price.

      • I'm sure they're not happy to make less $, but I'm sure they don't PM below cost!

The display at the top is not that useful. The key info you need is normally in the view finder and if you want more details you would use the main LCD screen.

I was concerned about this one, but it turns out it wasn't a sensor issue.
      http://www.learningdslrvideo.com/yellow-banding-high-iso/

Canon 5D Mark III is an amazing camera.

    • +1

Have you actually read about the issue or are you just posting that cause your jelly?

It is only apparent in very specific scenario's, i.e dark room or lens cap on.

Other cameras have experienced similar issues and it is not a problem.

    • +1

Not saying that it's too much of a problem in actual real world use (for most scenarios anyway), but if Canon USA are putting out a public product advisory about it, then it's fair to say that there is some sort of issue going on.

  • +2

You can get them for $3374 delivered (FedEX)from eGlobal -
    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/canon-eos-5d-mark-ii…

    • Is that Au stock or Hk stock? And also what exact difference does it make for Hk/grey stock? You still get Australian warranty anyway right?

      • From memory eGlobal is grey stock so Canon Australia will not provide warrant support.

It will have to be sent back to the country of origin.

        • Ah ok, I am just asking as I have never bought anything thats grey market stock. Thanks for your help though!!!

      • +1

Also you risk it being snagged by customs and you'll have to pay GST and customs fees on top (roughly an extra ~10-15%)

        • Which would mean you paid more for grey stock than you could have got aus stock for. I've spent plenty of money with grey stockists like DWI but a number of people have been pinged lately so I didnt want to risk it on this occasion.

    • AU stock is definetely better (from warranty's point of view).

However, the camera is selling at a cheaper price overseas. The difference is more than the FedEx postage charge.

Canon 5D Mark III is an amazing camera, but Canon Australia should price it fairly (same goes for Nikon Australia - the RRP for Nikon D800 is also way too high).

    • +1

If you have to buy a 5D3 right now it's probably a better idea to get local stock, especially if you can get this price. Reasons being:

      1. Local warranty - early batches of production might have issues pop up later which may need to be fixed (eg. the top plate LCD light leak which Canon USA have put out a product advisory for). It's a lot easier/cheaper to send stuff to Canon Australia and get them to repair it for free, rather than ship it back to Hong Kong and cross your fingers hoping they repair it properly.

      2. Import tax - it'll be ~$502 on top of the price if you get caught out by customs. Not to mention the hassle of dealing with customs.

  • This is a good price, I had been waiting for the light leak issue to be sorted out first but this is tempting.

  • How did the OP get this price? Just negotiating? or was it advertised?

    • Got them to match an advertised price by another local dealer, advertised price is still $4,199

    • He priced matched it with Leederville Cameras. They sell local stock (i.e. it's always overpriced), but for some reason they have the 5D3 at a super price this time lol.

  • +1

You can get it cheaper (and delivered) from Digital Rev: http://www.digitalrev.com/product/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii/MTAw…

Note: this price includes all import duties etc - I bought mine from them last week

    • +4

Yes there are cheaper options, but if you read the thread properly $3,599 is for local stock.

So I paid $11 dollar more for Australian Warranty.

DigitalRev IS a grey importer, read their terms of conditions http://www.digitalrev.com/help/terms-of-conditions-of-sales/…

Canon Australia will not help you out if you have a warranty issue.

      • -2

Personally I think the value of that is greatly overstated - the first person you will go to with a warranty issue is always going to be the person who sold you the body. Which means so long as the warrant period is the same (DR gives 12 months worldwide warranty) you're just as well protected. And as I understand it, if you did want to go direct to Canon, you would still be able to through Consumer Protection legislation.

        • Which is great if you don't mind not having the camera for a few weeks while they send it away, send it to Canon, get it back, send it back to you.

        • How is the value overstated when I only paid $11 more for it?

It makes life a lot easier and for a lot of these Grey import companies are located off shore, meaning they our outside any of our consumer protection laws.

So if they say no we're not fixing it, what are you going to do…

  • -1

Jesus Christ, how good is the picture quality on one of these things? You could lay a deposit on a small house with that sort of money.

    • LOL… get in fast while they are cheap? You could leave the price tag hanging on the camera for image value? I might get 2 at this price.

  • Wonder if any one can point us to a place to get bargain price on the previous model, like Canon 5D Mark II, Australian stock preferred.

Is this not worth to do, since the new model is out?

    Many thanks,

    Bob

    $3600 for a camera ?! you've got to be kidding me…

    • -1

tis a cheap'n'value one compared to the 1ds series

    • +1

Considering the Australian RRP (and US RRP/what its selling for in the US/grey market), it's a good price.

    • Man, this is a professional camera. Also for people with money to burn - not me :(

I love to own one of this. If you're one that's into it enough to pay for such a quality camera, you'll up for more money with quality lens(es).

    • +1

If your into photography it's up there as one of the best for the price.

lol I wouldnt call it a cheap'n'value camera at all, at this stage it's Canon's best available camera when it comes to image quality.

    • +2

This is like being surprised at the cost of a Ferrari when comparing it to your Hyundai Excel. The Canon 5D Mk III is one of the Ferraris of the photography world. Your mobile phone camera is the push-bike.

  • +1

Even though it is a good price, DON'T buy the Canon 5d Mark 3 yet. It has a design flaw where light leaks through and gives false readings. Canon Canada has suspended all shipments, and Canon USA have put out a press release idenitfying the problem - Google Canon 5d Leak.

There is speculation that as this is a design fault, there will probably be a product recall issued. So DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA… just yet.

Oh, and I called Canon Australia today and the service was terrible. The guy, Chris, head of the call centre?, said that the issue had not been confirmed as yet and it was only minor. I asked whether Canon would replace a falty camera and he said no… that the contract is with the consumer and the store they bought it from - not with Canon.

Canon created this problem, yet Canon Australia feels that it is NOT THEIR PROBLEM! This is a warning to all.

    • Have you actually researched the issue?

It is not new and common across a number of other camera's.

The "light leak" is only apparent in near pitch black rooms and when you have the lens cap on.

Most tests have had to use a torch shined at the LCD to get it to work.

Know what your talking about before you go scaring everyone.

      It's a non issue.

      • +2

The facts are plain for everyone to see. You are being presumptuous if you believe you understand the issue better than most. The fact is that Canon USA have issued a statement that they are looking into the issue and will provide a comment once they have a plan on how to address it. Until that is done, it is best to wait. Others can make up their own minds.

AND, your last statement is inaccurate.

    • +1

Just some more info - in case people are interested: http://www.cameratown.com/reviews/canon5dMKIII/light_leak.cf…

Second video (at the end of the page) illustrates the issue.

First video is about a slighly different issue - apprently affects some other SLR cameras as well (according to the article).

It does not hurt to know about this issue.

    • Chicken Little, INC. It's a terribly major issue if you shoot with the bodyvcap/lenscap on, but that's pretty unlikely for most people.

  • -8

Those who have that much money to spend on a camera they shouldn't be on Ozbargain lol

  • Damn. Its good price. I shouldn't have gone for holiday earlier this year.

  • i went to Myer, none of the stores have stock… need to go to buying dept… but they wouldn't sell it below $3871

went to JB Hi Fi, they wouldn't honour the receipt, nor the local store in WA, told me is a different market, ask me to go to WA!

went to Pentax, that guy say is about $400 below cost.

    giving up on $3599!

    • That sucks mate, maybe try a couple of other JBHIFI's

    • +5

latest news…. went to Top Ryde, they don't want to honour it (told me no stock after a lengthy negotiation)

went to Macquarie, DONT GO THERE, they say they will lose $14 if sell for $3890!

and YES all of them DO ring up Leederville but the earliest "in stock" item is 4 weeks, or June 2012

email and complaint to the marketing executive, Scott Browning.. basically said their price match policy is misleading… somehow I got a reply and a phone call… unusually for someone earning 300k in remuneration and talk to someone buying a $3.5k camera…

      he said:

      1. canon - stopped the supply (and yes this is to do with the Canon USA announcement)
      2. he will have a words with the pathetic attitude by Macq Centre staff member
      3. as this is the first time he heard about a complaint on canon camera, he will do a match on $3700 for me.

however however, during the wait, i went to Chatswood Store……… and they were very professional…

      1. the staff checked with their manager
      2. manager say the price is below the computer screen, hence he rang the Head Office.
      3. they called Leederville and been told they don't have stock… hard to price match competitor with no stock…
      4. since the price in Leederville's offered seem legitiment, they will do it ONCE AND ONE DAY ONLY for $3650…

      and NOW i am a proud owner of 5d mk3 : ))

  • It is good to see how many people are interested in expensive and top quality products.
    Just thoughts.
I have Pentax K-x (thanks to ozbargain) and quite happy, but if I had less work and personal committments I would definitely got this beast.
Costs a lot but results are superb. Probably gonna take a few years to reach limits if there are any with such equipment.

  • ted's has 10% this thursday/friday off canon stuff.

brings 5d mark III to $3599
