Overall, the phone is good given the price.
It lags a bit after using it for a few days till I install Android Booster Free app and MT Auto Killer. It runs very fast now.
RRP $279 prepaid from Vodafone store.

BrockSamson on 03/05/2012 - 22:11 ¶Good price for the W. For a 'budget' phone I think it is probably the best option out there.

+2 votesThere is no comparison given the specs.

+9 votesYou can get the Optimus 2X for $50 more.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-P990-Optimus-2x-Black-8MP-Wi-F...
$50 for an extra CPU core, +.3" of screen, IPS panel, 8MP/1080p camera. more internal storage, custom ROMS and much better build quality.
+2 votesIf I didn't have an inherent distrust when it comes to eBay + electronics from previous experience I would say this should have its own page. If people don't mind trying to get a better deal at the expense of possibly having to deal with PayPal if the phone is damaged when it gets to them I would say this phone is awesome and so is the deal! good job Tycn!
+2 voteswebbiegareth on 04/05/2012 - 07:35 ¶Not really comparable as the LG isn't a NextG phone and doesn't support the 850Mhz network. The Galaxy W seems to be the best value NextG phone.

To use an Optus network SIM make sure you live / work / play in an Optus 3G (2100MHz) area. This phone is not compatible with the Optus 3G (900MHz) network and as such won't be much use on the Optus 3G network outside metro and major regional areas.
mastablasta on 03/05/2012 - 23:01 ¶Well that comparison site gives a slight victory to the W - http://geekaphone.com/compare/Samsung-GALAXY-W-vs-Samsung-Ga...

- You join Buckscoop
- Click through their link to go to Vodafone
- Complete the transaction on Vodafone's site — make sure you don't go to any other website
- 10% of the cost will be added to your Buckscoop account in 2-3 months time, which you can withdrawal later.
StartHere also operates the same way, but not as good in terms of cashback rate.

Cool. I am looking at bringing Buckscoop's cashback rate here in late July. I know they are also working on "single sign on" feature (implemented by the same team of HotUKDeals/Quadco in UK) so people can click through the link from OzBargain to merchant's website and pick up the tracking along the way.

Agree that its prolly the best bang for buck right now though only "want" to spend ~ $200 on it.
+1 votetwister292 on 04/05/2012 - 01:40 ¶Generally not; these prices are online only. The only time I've had a store honour online pricing was when my online order was bungled by Voda, and they allowed me to pick the handset in-store after they had taken payment online from me already (That was for a Nexus S).
+1 votewebbiegareth on 04/05/2012 - 07:38 ¶Just to be clear, this is a NextG phone and doesn't support the Optus 9ooMhz network. Bloody great value for a nextg phone though!
Jayteewoofed on 04/05/2012 - 08:19 ¶So if I'm on TPG which uses the optus network, my phone won't have any network service at all? Make it useless?
mr_fjackson on 04/05/2012 - 08:46 ¶it will work ok, but the coverage of the 3g network will be flaky out in the sticks
camelgrass on 04/05/2012 - 14:38 ¶So if I'm on TPG which uses the optus network, my phone won't have any network service at all? Make it useless?
Wherever there is an Optus 2G signal it will work. This phone will also work on the Optus 3G (2100MHz) network but coverage is restricted to urban / city / metro / major regional areas only. In other regional and rural areas Optus uses the 3G 900MHz band and as such this phone is not compatible (but it will still work in these areas where the Optus 2G network is available.
Google "Optus mobile coverage" and peruse the coverage maps to get a better idea.

Great phone with excellent battery life.. only drawback I have after few days of use is it does not have an ambient light sensor so you end up adjusting the brightness all the time…
oh and I tried to unlock and got a 8 digit unlock code but this message "THE UNLOCK INSTRUCTION FOR THIS MODEL IS NOT AVAILABLE"
King Tightarse on 04/05/2012 - 10:30 ¶Hey poxy001 what is the speakerphone like - volume and quality wise?
tassie Pete on 05/05/2012 - 09:53 ¶That message you're getting on the Vodafone unlock page means the phone's already unlocked…
ramjetnospam on 04/05/2012 - 11:25 ¶Will it work on Telstra NextG? On the Vodafone site specs it says 3G 850 HSDPA yet on GSM Arena it doesn't (might be a different model?) http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_w_i8150-4114.php

Yes, if you install a custom ROM but probably not from Samsung officially.

Ya, with a price tag of $999 for 64GB version on 29th May.

Killer phone. For people that are into custom roms, CM9 ICS is being developed for it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874 It is still ALPHA but at least its there.
+1 voteHTC One V is another solid option in this price range, comes with ICS (Android 4.0). Must the cheapest phone that ships with ICS ?

camelgrass on 06/05/2012 - 01:13 ¶Damn, shipping is $35.
Overall very similar phones, though the HTC One V has a slower CPU and no front-facing camera.
